Pianists

Hey, I noticed your article on Grant Johannesen. In the past few weeks I categorized most classical pianists (all I could find) into two categories - Classical pianists (the Pianists should have only articles on pop, jazz or... other kind of pianists) and, in Johannesen's case, American pianists (categorized by their nationality). I would love to collaborate with you if you intend to write more articles about pianists because I feel that they have been greatly neglected in the past of Wikipedia. --Missmarple 06:31, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Lyric poetry

Wow, there wasn't an article before now, just a redirect to lyric? I have to agree with the comment by the person who first edited the page. Anyway, it looks like a good start.

I would mention that the opening phrase, calling it the "purest form of poetry", is arguably a value judgment. I can understand what is meant by it, but it warrants being qualified or explained more. Otherwise it's the sort of thing that partisans of dramatic poetry might object to (fortunately, people working on poetry articles don't get into many edit wars). Or if such a comment can be attributed to some significant figure, that would work as well.

Morone/Moroni

AfD

People who deal regularly with deleting articles understandably develop an instinctive dislike for articles about things that are only in planning stages. That's because they're usually dealing with things like upcoming albums from garage bands, or some independent filmmaker's ambitious project that may never materialize. I think that's ultimately what's going on here, and it got noticed because you weren't logged in (people monitor articles created from IP addresses much more closely because most of the junk comes in that way).

LDS categories

It depends on the circumstances, I think. For example, Category:Latter Day Saint denominations should almost certainly not be changed, at least if the titles of the articles on the other denominations correctly indicate their preferred spellings. It appears that some categories already use Latter-day Saint because they specifically limit themselves to members of this church. If that limitation is not inherent in how the category is defined, it may not be as appropriate. Glancing at a few articles on RLDS/Community of Christ leaders, they tend not to have been categorized at all (but Frederick M. Smith is in Category:Latter Day Saint leaders), so the contents of the categories may be a little skewed. For that matter, I don't know what shorthand you would use these days to indicate a member of the Community of Christ. Perhaps the issue of categorization practices should be raised with the LDS WikiProject. I'm sure that at least some of the spelling and naming conventions have had to be hashed out before because of differences like this. --Michael Snow 17:29, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

I have no idea on the hyphenation of African American. Just glancing at the titles of works cited as references for that article, it appears both with and without, so I would guess that the literature on the subject lacks a consistent standard. --Michael Snow 19:30, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Extended quotes

In terms of markup, I believe they're handled simply by using HTML tags, as in <blockquote></blockquote>. I would assume that the stylistic standards for it are the same as anywhere else; if it's not in the Manual of Style, it's probably just because there's never been any real controversy about it. --Michael Snow 16:56, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Israeli politics

I think it was more the fact that your editing also removed a significant chunk of material, which most people treat as inherently suspicious and especially coming from someone who isn't logged in. Berchtesgaden

Hi - thanks for your edits! I thought I'd follow up and ask to see what we missed anything. The Berghof was retained and serves as a retreat for the American military. - you probably meant the Berchtesgadener Hof[1], not Hitler's former residence, the Berghof. I disagree with you about the need for caps for the Laser Camera System. It is an auto-synchronous triangulation scanning laser camera (no caps). The product name is Laser Camera System (caps). Okay, that's good work. Now you can make a redirect; that's where you have a plausible alternate name for the article, and you make it a pointer to the actual name. Here's how to do it.

First, you have the article [[Actual Article Name]]. Then, you create the article [[Alternate Article Name]]. The content of "Alternate Article Name" should be as follows: #redirect [[Actual Article Name]] - and nothing else. Nothing before or after. I can't find any problem now. What happened, I think, is that in addition to the previous article being deleted, because it had been copied from Britannica, somebody deleted the redirect as well (which was used in the template). By the way, I notice that you have been replacing the {{Nobel physics laureate}} template with the really annoying {{Nobel Prize in Physics}} template. Any particular reason? Municipalities of Grisons/Graubünden

Hi there. I see that you have recently been creating articles about municipalities of Grisons/Graubünden. You might like to know that there is a set of templates ('navboxes') you can add to each article that creates a list of the municipalities of that district. For example, to Ausserferrera, I have added {{Municipalities of the district of Hinterrhein}}. The templates are at Category:Swiss district templates. If you need help creating the remaining municipality articles, let me know. I created a Perl script that extracted all the table information from the German Wikipedia and created a standard stub article for each municipality, including all those in Graubünden. Docu was going to run a bot (D6) to complete the rest, but it looks like he has moved on to other things. --BillC 23:43, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for replying! (I created a few municipality articles myself recently. I hope you don't think I was treading on your toes by doing so.) I created most of the navigation bar templates in that category, so the chance is high that it was I who chose to use 'Grisons' rather than 'Graubünden'. I can't remember my reasons for doing so now, but I suspect that it was because the article on the districts_of_Switzerland called it 'Grisons'. If, as you say, this is not appropriate, then of course it should be changed. I can do this if you like. I have stub articles on all the remaining municipalities sitting on my hard disk. Creating them is a matter of locating the correct file (listed under municipality code) and pasting it into the new article after checking that the links are correct. --BillC 01:23, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Media help (Ogg) gives some instructions. I downloaded one of the options to run with Windows Media Player, though I don't remember which. Agrigan

Hi, you recently created an article titled Agrigan. However, there was already an existing article titled Agrihan, and these are in fact the same island / volcano. So I have gone ahead and merged the text of Agrigan into Agrihan, and changed Agrigan to a redirect. In the future, please check for pre-existing articles under alternate spellings before creating articles. German district templates

Hi Ksnow, I see you've created navigation templates for virtually all districts of Germany. I think that's simply wonderful, thanks! One item I think is missing in the templates is the Verwaltungsgemeinschaften, Ämter etc., do you have a suggestion how to include those in a nice and consistent way? Another thing is that several links in the templates do not point to the right places, and of course not all municipalities in Germany have an article yet. Maybe we should make a list of all municipalities (from de:Kategorie:Liste (Gemeinden in Deutschland), for instance under WP:GER) and check all articles. Markussep 12:51, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

I'll give it a try, but it may take a while, I don't have much time right now. There have been several reorganizations in Eastern Germany (mergers of Ämter etc.), and I'm afraid I've done some damage myself by thinking noone would be interested in municipalities with 900 inhabitants, that are part of an Amt. Sorry, I don't know how to keep the width of the infobox within reasonable limits. You can ask User:52 Pickup. Happy New Year. For personal infomation, can you explain the logic of your edit. Particlarly

• Why the template was changed.
• Why the coat of arms was removed
• Why you use Sister City for Partner Town- which is incorrect in that neither are cities- and sister city is not current British English or even a direct translation of the German.

Hi, the template is actually identical, "Infobox Ort in Deutschland" redirects to "Infobox German Location". Ksnow updated the infobox with information from German wikipedia, that's part of our quest to add infoboxes to all German municipality articles, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Germany/Cities. Nice to see activity on the template front. However, this sister city terminology is problematic.

'Partner towns' is a clear British English term. Let me explain. When I was an elected member of Rochester-upon-Medway City Council we had one Twinned Town- Valenciennes which has a formal twinning agreement, and a partner town Cadiz, we refered to them as our two partner towns. As Valenciennes was not a city- neither would use the term 'twin city'.

We investigated joining the Eurotowns network but Brighton and Hove pipped us to the post, and thus has 14 partner towns none of which are twin towns. Trnava told us that it was a twin town, but no paperwork could be found so we accepted it as a partner town.

Our solicitor was unhappy with the lack of clarity and legal implications of becoming a twin town which would fall outside the provisions of the Local Government Act, so no other twin towns were created. Things have moved on, Rochester has merged into Medway, lost its city status, and political control has changed. A report was written for my succesor, with which I do not entirely agree, but it explains the different levels in the partnership/twinning process. http://www.medway.gov.uk/f20060119r-6.pdf.

The Bad Elster, town website says: Am 08. Juli und 23. September 1990 unterzeichneten die Bürgermeister Rudolf Forcher und Christoph Flämig die Partnerschaftsurkunden in Bad Waldsee und Bad Elster.. I am inclined to read this as a full twinning agreement, but at no point does either suggest that they are anything larger than a large village/small town. So for safety I used the term Partner Town, and I still see this as the best translation, and would like to revert the edit unless anyone can give any reasons I have missed.ClemRutter (talk) 18:53, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Gammelsdorf

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Gammelsdorf, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. I see you have a history of working on the article Moses Amschel Bauer. I am looking at it from the project Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles where it is one of the longest {{unreferenced}} tagged articles that does not meet at least the barest minimum of verifiability. It has been tagged and completely without references since June 2006. Soissonnais

Hi, I saw you changed "Soissonnais" into "Soisson" in some articles. This refers to the fr:Communauté d'agglomération du Soissonnais. That article doesn't exist (yet) in English wikipedia. "Soissonnais" is the French name for the area around the city Soissons. "Soisson" doesn't mean anything, better leave it as "Soissonnais". So you meant "Soissons", with "s". I guess there's a subtle difference between Soissons and Soissonnais, like between Beaujeu and Beaujolais. About "commune", it's in the usual English dictionaries (Oxford, Merriam-Webster, Cambridge), so there's no problem using it. Markussep ^Talk 21:24, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I see you are creating navigational boxes for the French communes. Just a little tip regarding spacing the {{•}}: there should be no space between the link to a commune and the template. Example:

• Good: [[Commune ABC]]{{•}} [[Commune DEF]]

They do make a difference, however small. In the template the dot is already spaced from the left, so if you add additional space, there will be two spaces. And me, sometimes too detail orientated, will notice it :) It's a small thing, but it if you are going to make new templates, just don't do it. It's easy to fix.
