I think the Blackstsone daily photos has copyrights. Some of the historical societies like Erie PA historical I am not sure. I agree add nothing more and just try and edit down and reorder it. If you are new at this, I am very impressed!

Yeah Meredyth|Stellar. Where have you been? Any help is appeciated. I will quit editing and let you pollish this one up. It only needs a few references, like maybe 3 to 5, and the rest can be footnotes or something. I see acroterion's notes about external links, so they should be few in number. Several of the external links make sense, like good pictures or documents, especially where national significance is noted. The small town has a lot of history, and the write-up grew my interest so I helped add references and such. I will look for the "you" words that acroterion mentions and try to get rid of them. Reply: You are doing great. I will just try to cite the references as requested, but my formatting is not in final form. Sometimes I can just find internal or external links. Sometimes, it is old obscure text from books which can be found with google. I will try to put them as paranthesis next to where citation needed, or as links at same place. Your help is appreciated. I have never worked with wikipedia before but found this article in July and noticed the editors had requested lots of work. My first attempts at editing were pretty ordinary, and I am still learning now. There are always people to help if you ask questions and people will fix things if something breaks. You have chosen a challenging page to work on with this article.

1. Adding more to the article is probably not the way to go now - what is needed is to tidy it up and re-organise the information so that it flows properly, and then get some feedback from others.
2. Pictures in articles can only be displayed if there are no copyright restrictions. Are all the pictures you want to display in the article free of copyright?

Australia

Ksherin - I am an Australian. I didn't think the accent was that noticeable. My usual interests in Wiki are Australian women writers, who are still very under-represented. Although I live in Canberra - home of the National Library, a great resource - my time is limited and I don't have the opportunity to do much research. If it was open at 3am I would be there reading, but... Biographies on the whole do interest me and I will look up the two you mentioned.
I will try and finish editing Uxbridge tonight (life intervened the last couple of days). I am going to take out the editorial comments you have added referring to a sustainable environment - the article should just be factual information and not commentary. You would not have guessed it, but I am in FLorida. THe sustainable environment is a great concern here just as it is in Australia. How is the Great Barrier Reef doing these days? FL, though not yet our nation, is taking a turn toward the green, and conservation. I think Wiki is a wonderful educational tool. The kids today are lucky to have it for research and education. I had assumed you were living in Uxbridge. You write about the place as though you have just walked down the main street. I have cousins who were born in Florida. They have duel citizenship and made growing up there sound very exotic. They now live all over the world. I read a lot of crime fiction - there are lots of books set around your territory. I hope it is mostly fiction! Yes, I think the internet is a great invention, at least it has become so - I like they way it retains it's own sense of anarchy and wikipedia gives me somewhere to go to do something constructive. There is no need to thank me, I am happy to help with this article. It is interesting and you certainly have enough information to build this page. I hope my help gives you some clues on how to do the formatting for other pages. There are templates for citing references which make it relatively easy (Wikipedia:Citation templates) It is a case of cutting and pasting and then filling in the spaces. PS Meredyth Stellar: Just for the record, I did not write a lot of that. I would say that most was written by a town historian who calls himself Scott. But there were no references. Then someone added references when the big mill fire happened in July. Then I got interested in adding to it, since I had done a picture book of history and slides from the internet for my mother last Christmas. Now I think it is pretty much done with your help. It is a reasonable product and reasonably well documented. I did learn about about references now for next time. Kind of like writing old computer programs with commands. References - you did good!

I saw the work you did formatting a reference. It is great - trial and error, see what happens and fix the mistakes. And you are right about the article - it is time to set it free in the world. I took off the "work in progress" flag. Most of the articles in wiki appear to be team efforts. Someone starts an article and then others come in with new ideas and new information. It is a collaborative process. it will be interesting now sitting back and watching people polish this article. Hope we can collaborate on another project - perhaps Lydia Taft?

Yes to future collaboration

I enjoyed working with you and enjoyed the collaboration. Yes it will be interesting to see future work on this. I think this town is a sleeper for the history it has. President Clinton declared this valley a World heritage site (or some such designation) in the 1990's. I remember when I was a kid that a local lumber yard owner was working on the national corridor designation with collaboration in Rhode Island. I look forward to working with you on Lydia Taft. Uxbridge - the illustrated version?

Ksherin - I looked at the page but you seem to have worked it out. I only did a little bit of tidying. Are you going to look at pictures for the article? I know you have added lots of picture references that I commented out. Wikipedia is very particular about the copyright on pictures and will delete them if the information is not complete. You can't just take picutres from the web and display them. You can post your own photographs. There is an image library with pictures people have added. Coronet John Farnum Jr

Looking at this article it seems that what is actually notable is not the man (who seems to have done little apart from marrying, owning a house and being a coronet- interesting locally perhaps, but not really notable in a Wikipedia sense) but the house itself, which certainly sounds like a notable historical building. Would you consider restructuring/moving the article to be about Coronet John Farnum House, Uxbridge (or whatever its exact name is), and including the significant facts of JF himself in that article? Uxbridge Pictures

Hi - I have been busy and not been on wikipedia for some time. Thanks for your message. If you put up picutres without completing details about their ownership then they will quickly get taken off. A lot of the pictures you have in the Uxbridge article were from articles or internet sites. These will probably not be able to be used because of copyright. I commented them out in the article because of this problem. If you can sort out the copyright issues then the pictures can be put onto the article.

If you have any picutres that you have taken yourself, you can add them to the wikipedia pictures and these can be put into the article. You will need to complete the details to say that it is your picture and you make it available for public access. Stellar 02:39, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Historic places in Uxbridge

Recently you have created many articles on historic places in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. I request that you merge all of these articles into List of Registered Historic Places in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. As anyone can see, every one of these articles is a very short stub. Also, they have no unique information other than where in town the house is and the type of architecture. Every single one of these articles even includes the exact same two sentences: "The town has 60 buildings listed on the National Registry. Uxbridge has over 250 buildings listed on the State's historic register." The majority has the same two external links. Rather than having so many useless stubs, it would be much easier to merge them all to the main list. It would be rather simple, as it would only need to move the address and relevant link. The articles can then become redirects. I really do not believe that every one of these places is independently notable and deserves its own article, so I kindly ask you to merge them together. Formatting issues

WP:LAYOUT says that no heading should appear before the first paragraph. Also, "Biosketch" is not a word. Plain English is preferred in Wikipedia to make it easier for people of varying degrees of English proficiency to read. It is not a place to use neologisms.

WP:MOSCAPS indicates that sentence case, not title case, is to be used for section headings. To help improve the consistent appearance of Wikipedia, please use capital letters in headings (and article names) only for the first letter and for proper nouns. Ksherin, I have just found this comment after posting below. I will let that stand, and respond to this comment here. I do not wish to see you leave Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an amazing project in sharing knowledge, and it needs more editors like you creating content. However, as you spend more time in Wikipedia, it is expected that you will pay more attention to Wikipedia policies and style. You will notice that I initially cleaned up your mistakes without comment, hoping that you would follow my lead. When you continued making the same mistakes, I asked you to pay attention to Wikipedia style. As you continued in the same vein, I have been successively more blunt in order to get your attention.

I do know how much work is involved in being a "professional editor" because for the past couple of works I have been cleaning up your work. I am not asking you to edit anyone else's work. I am only asking that when you are creating your own new content, you follow some basic rules, which I have outlined below. Following these will not take any more of your time, but will save time for others like me who have been cleaning up after you. For example, not putting repeated links in an article to the same article will save you time -- one link is enough, unless it's a really long article, then you might put in a couple. Not linking an article to itself and not linking date fragments will save you time. No writing long stretches of stuff in genealogical shorthand that are not appropriate for an encyclopedia article will save you time. (If you are just copying these, then they are likely copyright violations and therefore have to be removed anyway.) Not using title case in headings won't take you any longer.

You will note that I have also been correcting spelling and typographical errors. I have not commented on this because most people (me included) do these, and I am as happy to help fix those in your writing as I am happy when other people fix them in my writing. You don't make an inordinate number of spelling/typo errors, so no comment is necessary. I am not asking that your contributions be perfect, only that you learn as you go (e.g., by following other people's advice when they offer it to you) in order to save the rest of us time.

List of Registered Historic Places in Uxbridge, Massachusetts

I appreciate your many contributions to this list and to Uxbridge related articles and would like to work with you rather than in opposition to improve them. One concern I have relates to the exactitude that is required in Wikipedia. For instance, the number of place on the list is an exact number. We need to be able to agree on it. Also I find there is a fifference of spelling of "Bazaleel" vs. "Bezaleel" Taft, Jr. We need to decide on the preferred one and use that in article titles, etc., with just a comment on its other spelling. It's perfectly OK to have an article on the person and another one on his house that's listed on the National Register. The house article is concerned with things like architecture, present use, etc., that are different from the biographical article. Hence it is confusing. I am preferring Bezaleel and will only mention the Bazaleel spelling once in an article if that is ok. I've added some structure and formatting to show you what a stub article looks like. The reference is to the government source rather than to the tourism website which really just copies from the government site. It's OK to use the tourism thing in your sandbox but not in the article. The long quote from the walking tour should be avoided because of copyright concerns, etc. It would be better to paraphrase it. There is a discrepancy in the street address. The National Park service says 147 South Main Street, while the tourist thing says 195 South Main Street. It needs to be determined which one is correct. 3. Do use sentence case in headings and article names, i.e., capitalize only the first word and proper nouns;
4. Don't link date fragments -- you can link January 13 1754, but don't link "1754" or "January"
5. Don't link to redirect pages -- these are sometimes deleted, and your links will be broken, link to the correct article title instead;
6. Don't use small fonts or subscript -- these are hard for many readers to read, and Wikipedia strives to be accessible to as many people as possible regardless of sight or other impairment;
7. Don't write in the style of a genealogy --this is an encyclopedia, please write in full sentences without numerous abbreviations;
8. Don't copy from genealogical books -- this violates copyright laws;

Thank you for the work on Uxbridge

Hi Ksherin, I was researching recent edits in Wikipedia and noticed that Uxbridge is the third most edited article in the past month (before such as Iron Man(!)). Thanks for all the work, you're doing unbelievable job. I hope you will continue on other articles once you're done with this one. The only thing about the article that I didn't think was a good practice is that it's written as bullet list. Generally speaking, articles on Wikipedia should be written in paragraphs so they can be read as a coherent and continuous text. The article is very hard to read this way – as a list of facts that don't really construct history. This isn't major objection just a feedback on what you might want to consider while editing Wikipedia. Hi Pethr: I want to put this one to bed. I grew up in this town and caught the article on Wikipedia when the local mill fire made national news last year. It was a mess... no references, but interesting trivia. I learned about American History, local history, and how to be more helpful to the Wikipedia cause rather than to mess it up worse. No problem with your edit suggestion about bullets. Its done, not too much work. Probably not the best grammer and syntax, but I am no pro. The bullets helped me to organize what was important to retain from a a very long winded article which is now down from over 10 pages of text to around 6. Thanks. All I can add is that it is documented that he enlisted for the battle of Lexington and Concord, was a drummer, and later became a Captain. that is why I listed the two references for that. User_talk:KSherin 03:19 April 22 (UTC)

This is also true of thousands of other individuals, yet they are not listed in the article. Furthermore, merely enlisting in response to the alarm does not even mean he was actually involved in the battle in any way. Do you have evidence that his company reached any portion of the battle road on the day of the battle (about 40 miles of marching, by my reckoning), and that he actually did something worth mentioning when he got there? lwvma.org county text and links removed

I appreciate your contributions to this project but have removed the text ("The Massachusetts league of Women Voter offers a discussion of Counties in the Commonwealth.") and its accompanying link to the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts web site you have added to all the Massachusetts county pages. The fact that LWVMA has a web site about Massachusetts counties has more to do with the League and the counties as a whole and little to do with each individual county. I think this link with much shortened text (e.g. "League of Women Voters info on Massachusetts counties") could have a place in the External links on some state-wide pages. I also think there could possibly be a mention in the External links section of each county page but only if it linked specifically to the section about the particular county. I note the article is considered for deletion. Captain James Buxton served in Colonel Benjamin Tuppers Regiment in the American War for Inedpendence. He held the rank of Ensign, Lieutenant and Captain. He served at Valley Forge and signed an oath of allegiance to the USA during a time of severe hardship for the American revolutionary war soldiers. He is locally recognized as a colonial folk hero in the border towns of the two states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island with a local Fife and drum corps named in his honor. THere are now four references as links to the article. Paid references could be added to strengthen the article but I don't think I would spend the money if you plan to delete this. He is basically a colonial figure of the revolutionary war period.

I have tried to edit to save the article from deletion. I have found references that show links where James Buxton was rostered at Valley Forge and at the Battles of Saratoga. There are further links that verify his family origin from with his grandfather from Salem Massachusetts. Altogether I have added another 8 or so links and a total of 16 citations to the original 3 citations. I hope that helps to save it from deletion. He held 4 separate commissioned ranks in the American Revolution, Ensign, Second Lieutenant, Lieutenant, and Captain, and served in at least two or three known major battles with five years of service. Here is a summary.

Understood. Working to improve independence of references. The states largest media has covered this tribes efforts. I am rusty with Wikipedia references, processes and critiques. but working at it. The “copyright violation” was by permission from tribes website, edit by chief. The flag is Creative Commons 1.0. This project is important to indigenous history of New Hampshire which is the only state lacking state tribal recognition. Certainly true among New England states. Taft family

Thanks so much for your articles about Taft family members from Mendon and Uxbridge, Massachusetts. They are very interesting.

I have been doing some editing on Bazaleel Taft Sr. and Josiah Taft because there are some sources that are considered unreliable because there's no editing process to ensure that the content is truth or published in documents. Rootsweb and other user-driven genealogy sites, find-a-grave, and personal family websites are not reliable for those reasons. Newspapers, books, and journal articles are examples of reliable sources. I am going to work on Lydia Chapin Taft's article next.

These articles were written awhile ago. If you're already aware of the need to ensure that sources come from reliable sources that have an editorial function, I am sorry to bother you.

For Bazaleel Taft Sr., I moved it from Bezaleel Taft Sr. to be in synch with Hon. Bazaleel Taft House and I was initially finding sources under Bazaleel - especially in more modern sources, but I see now that Bezaleel was used in his vital records and information about his legislative career. I do say, though, that his name is also spelled Bezaleel. Does that work? Or do you think it should be changed back?
