Welcome edit

Hello Kprideboi, welcome to wikipedia. I hope you are here to stay and contribute. I saw your article on emperor Chi-whoo. I wish you will expand it into an even better form.

However I saw your user page. The language you used about chinese and japs seemed very obscene to me. We are here make wikipedia even better and not to bite each others. If you can write something useful, others will appreciate it themselves. There is no need to use slangs. Remember your user page is also accessible to everybody else and such language will obviously hurt them. So check it kindly.

These are some useful links.

Once again, welcome.

Goguryeo rulers edit

Hi,

I can understand your point, and respect your motivation. However, I think that we need to be careful to distinguish posthumous titles, particularly those granted long after death, from reigning titles. I would recommend perhaps creating a "posthumous name" or "legacy" section, or at least putting this information in a subsequent paragraph.

In general, per Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Verifiability, we do strive to follow the existing scholarly consensus, which appears to be that these figures generally reigned as kings rather than emperors. At least that's how I understand it. Also, I think many would find the translation of 태왕 as "emperor" rather than "exalted king" problematic, but that can perhaps be dealt with (and already is, briefly) in the List of Korean monarchs article.

Sources:

  • Byeon Tae-seop (변태섭) (1999). 韓國史通論 (Hanguksa tongnon) (Outline of Korean history), 4th ed. ISBN 89-445-9101-6. ... goes into some depth on Goguryeo political structure (see esp. p. 96ff), but refers to the rulers solely as 왕.
  • Nahm, Andrew C. (1996). Korea: A history of the Korean people (2nd ed.). Seoul: Hollym. ISBN 1-56591-070-2. ... refers to Gwanggaeto and the others simply as "king" (p. 30).
  • Lee, Ki-baek (tr. E.W. Wagner and E.J. Shultz) (1984). A new history of Korea. Seoul: Ilchokak. ... while noting Gwanggaeto's achievements and use of an era name (p. 38), still refers to him as "King Kwanggaet'o"; treats the other Goguryeo rulers in the same way.

Those are just from the books that are on my desk right now, but I believe a deeper search of the literature would show the same practice. The use of king/왕 is also followed in various print and online encyclopedias. It seems clear from this that the consensus among Korean historians is that the Goguryeo rulers were kings, rather than emperors. Whether that consensus is correct, I can't say; but per WP:NOR Wikipedia seeks only to transmit the scholarship of others.

Again, I think that information about posthumous titles can be included in the article, but only as information; the name actually used in the article should follow the established scholarly practice.

I'm not Korean, but often wish I was, as it would make my life here in Korea much less surreal. Although there's nothing wrong with surreality...:-) Cheers, -- Visviva 03:44, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

You need to read other people's comments more carefully man. ABCBBCKBS was the one that said all that BS about Korea, not me. I came in trying to stop him, and now you're attacking me. What're you trying to do? Calm down, please. -- ran (talk) 01:45, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

For the Goguryeo section, I was addressing Hairwizard91, because he inserted a sentence saying that Goguryeo never paid tribute to anyone. As for ABCBBCKBS, I don't know who he is beyond his username. -- ran (talk) 23:47, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello edit

Hey! Im Korean too nice to meet you :) I have been focusing on Korean Science and tech and also Korean independence movement articles if I can find more infomation I might help you with those 3 articles you want improved. until next time :)

User:Easternknight

Hi I was just browsing wikipedia and I happened to of stumbled upon your userpage. As a fellow Korean and a fellow Christian myself, I just wanted to ask you something out of curiosity, you have that whole "Korean ultranationalist" front going about yourself, and I was wondering do you take the Korean myths ie. the myth about Tangun seriously as historical fact? Yeah, if you do, that would be totally incompatible with Christianity since those are shamanist beliefs. Another thing kid, and I'm guessing you're at most a teenager just judging by your userpage, you might want to cool down with the whole "yo yo dont mess wit korea foo, all about korean supremacy foo" front, because kid you're on Wikipedia and most of the people here aren't teenagers here, plus some people might take it the wrong way. Also you might be doing all of us Koreans more harm than good with this whole "yeah it's all about Korea foo!" front. I mean it's cool and everything to be into Korean culture and history, but you might want to think at how you're going about this, just a little food for thought, believe me, it'll make more sense to you when you're in college (like me). well nice talking to you, Sung.

Qin Shi Huang edit

Thanks for your contribution to Qin Shi Huang.

  • Can you provide a reliable source for the assertion you made about the emperor's motive for the book burning?
  • Also, can you provide background on the term "Dongyi kind"? A link to the Dongyi article (in the form [[Dongyi]])might be sufficient.

Goguyeo edit

I am a Chinese from the Republif of China (Taiwan) For my history book, it says that Goguyeo was a Korean kingdom seperated from the Tang Dynasty. No one can change that, I am for sure. But think about Korea and what the Korean government did recently. Claiming the Chinese inventions to theirs--such as paper, Chinese medicine, and Confucianism... What is the point? Doesnt that makes Korea as bad as China?

good job!!! edit

  The Original Barnstar
I think you are doing a wonderful job with the articles that you mentioned. All of this stuff fascinates me and it relieves me to see the careful way in which you word content. I wish I could be more helpful with the suitable references, but my expertise is more in the archaeology-anthropology-history of science line. You know what? I think that, even more important than whether of not the Hwandan Gogi is a fake or if this or that historical actor was real or not, it is much more important to let readers know about this stuff so that they can make the own decision. The articles that you mentioned are strictly mythology and/or disputed history, but it is still interesting and notable in wikispeak. Mythology is a highly respectable discipline -- look at the place of Greek mythology in Western thought, culture, and philosophy. Both mythology and history provide a deep deep base for our cultures and deserve equal respect and attention at Wikipedia. I pricked up my ears in the Fall of 2006 when several editors worried about the NPOV of the Hwandan Gogi article -- but I think that attitude is caused by trollish behaviour and loss of good faith -- some of the editors who started the articles were pretty disruptive or had that reputation. That article in particular looks better these days. Sin Chae-ho Seonsaengnim gets a bad rap and I can't understand why! We should look at the context of Sin Chae-ho's writings and thoughts -- he was understandably worried about the future of Korean history under the brutal Japanese imperialists and did his best under the difficult circumstances. I'm glad that it is you who is one of the main editors at Korean mythology and early history articles. I'm here to try and help in giving all-things-Korean a higher profile and I am happy to see like-minded people. 수고하이소!^^ Mumun 無文 17:42, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

great idea. Just don't come up with those stupid names that are never heard of. I mean, seriously, Is it really quite necessary to call Go Anseung's revival movement as Goguryeo-guk? That was never mentioned in any history book.

It's true, that they might have called themselves Goguryeo, but it sounds just simply pathetic to name a main article "Goguryeo country". The article should renamed to revival movements. Nevertheless, your article lacked any proper evidence. Only traditional print sources, or something based on print sources should be used as actual evidence. I did some verification of you sources on the web, and some details lacked the proper citations.

History is relentless; you must keep up with its flow. I feel like I am talking to someone younger than me, though I doubt that I am. Learn how to read hanja. It will make your prospective broader. Odst 17:43, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

That sounds great, Bodeok and the preceding revival movement should be All incorporated into the revival movements page. I am going to be freshman this september. you better start learning your basic 1000 hanja NOW, or else you won't ever have time to do so later. Odst 01:49, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
alright, go ahead with the new articles right away. I'll leave Goguryeo-guk as it is until you create the new article, just in case you need the contents of the text. Do you have access to any Korean history text? If you live somewhere where there aren't much, I can help with research, cause I live near LA. Odst 23:39, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

yeah, I'd do some background checks on those websites if were you. the main sources would primarily be Samgukyusa, samguksagi, baekje bon-gi,Goguryeo bon-gi, and so forth. Can you do some verification on Wutae, or seoson? because there is no mention of him in any of the traditional text I have. I can send you a copy of Samgukyusa and samguksagi, if you'd like. I have hangul translations, so it will be easy to read. those are my primary sources along with the gwanggeto stele.

It would also be great If you can focus some of your efforts on modern Korean history. I am conducting research on some modern topics these days, but I cannot contribute that much because im in JROTC training right now. I only have a few hours a day during break to contribute, or conduct any sort of research. Odst 02:01, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

금과 청왕조는 한국사라고 하기 힘듭니다. 왜냐면 두 왕조들은 이미 중국사로 널리 인식되어 있고, 현재 한국과는 연관성이 거의 없기 때문입니다.
