American and British spellings

edit

Hey there! I reverted your edits to Extraterrestrial life, where you changed the American spellings to British spellings. Since I see you are new here and that those were some of your first substantive edits, I wanted to drop you a personal note explaining why I reverted. For a while, there were persistent edit wars about whether articles should use American or British spelling. Since edit warring isn't good for anyone, eventually a consensus was reached that whatever spellings the first non-stub version of the article used would be retained forever, unless a discussion for that page explicitly decided it should be changed. This consensus was recorded in the manual of style guideline at MOS:RETAIN. It's a good system because it serves as a reward for writing articles - if you write the article, you get to choose the spelling!

Anyhow, I hope this explanation makes sense, and that my revert doesn't seem too unfriendly in context. I also hope you stick around and continue to edit! Drop me a note on my talk page or check out the Teahouse if you need help or have any questions. A2soup (talk) 17:03, 7 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
