Fraternity terminology edit

Although fraternity men call each other brothers, the terminology for our articles would either be "member" or for someone who has graduated "alumnus". See for example Greek terminology. Dougweller (talk) 08:34, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Projects edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, Konkurrencat! I looked at your User page, and I thought you might be interested in Wikipedia:WikiProject Economics. If you select the page to go on your Watchlist, you will automatically see any changes or additions to that page on your Watchlist. You will see suggestions of User boxes you can add to your User page if you want to (look at them in Edit Mode to see exactly what to put on your User page, or see WP:User boxes). You might get ideas of articles that need work of some kind. If you just type in Wikipedia:WikiProject in your search bar, you will see other WikiProjects you might be interested in. If you ever have a question about how to do something, you can type {{helpme}} in your edit window for a new comment (new section) on your talk page (after putting any short phrase in the Subject/headline space), and type your question, and your question will be answered, or you can ask a question of another editor, or go to the WP Teahouse. Orphaned non-free image File:Dr. Alvin Hansen.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Dr. Alvin Hansen.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. August 2014 edit

First of all, please do not mark your edits as minor unless they actually meet the criteria set out at WP:MINOR. It is, in particular, never appropriate to mark reverts involving substantive disputes as minor.

Second, please review WP:NFC and WP:NFCC before adding, or restoring, nonfree (copyrighted) images to articles. In particular, nonfree images may not ordinarily be used to illustrate entries on lists, whether the lists are stand-alone articles or sections of more general articles. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited The Camden 28, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Trinity College, Marymount College and Regis College. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Howard Zinn at Camden 28 Trial.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Howard Zinn at Camden 28 Trial.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 11:38, 19 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Dusty Johnson.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Dusty Johnson.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Train2104 (t • c) 15:25, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Steven R. Jensen edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Steven R. Jensen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://news.sd.gov/newsitem.aspx?id=22435. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:06, 11 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Doug Wardlow edit

Doug Wardlow's biography is not a hagiography. His work for an anti-gay hate group is the most notable thing about him, judging by news coverage - reliable sources extensively discuss his work for ADF in arguing that LGBT people are unworthy of human rights. You may disagree with the SPLC's analysis, but that is not in any way, shape or form sufficient reason to remove it from the lede or from the article. The SPLC is a widely-accepted reliable source for discussing hate groups on Wikipedia - do not remove it again. You may wish that because he's running for office, the controversial views he defends be made less prominent. That's not an acceptable reason for doing so. NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 16:21, 27 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

You're implying what my reasoning is political for making corrections to your edits, however, the reasoning for my corrections are for neutrality.
Depending heavily on a single source which also happens to be a self-published website by a group of civil rights attorneys may not be a reliable source for this purpose. It is actually a primary source. The sources that are needed here should be history books or newspapers.
The point is Yes one opinion of Wardlow is he is member of an ant-gay hate group, but the article keeps stressing this in an attempt to portray THIS is over again, and THIS is why the article does not abide by wiki NPOV policy. The article is supposed to be kept neutral for such an encyclopedia source as Wikipedia. Mention sure, even hi-light what the SPLC has stated, but not make it the repetitive theme of the entire article, when many Americans (let alone readers) simply do not agree with that SPLC's point of view. This is not a propaganda piece, its an encyclopedic article.
You contribution history is fairly one-sided to positive edits for democratic candidates. You will see I have made positive contributions to Wardlow's opponent, you--not I, are here to further a political agenda. I certainly do have an agenda--which is neutrality.

Proposed deletion of Tony Venhuizen edit

The article Tony Venhuizen has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:ANYBIO and WP:NPOL. As an appointee who has never served in an elected office, and a BEFORE that only shows the namechecks one would expect, no indication of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Dusty Johnson head shot.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Dusty Johnson head shot.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

EXIF data shows this comes from Facebook, and Facebook’s licensing is not compatible with Commons. So, either this needs WP:OTRS verification to verify WP:CONSENT, a direct link showing it has been released as licensed below, or the original file from the camera needs to be uploaded. Even in the last case, OTRS verification is most likely needed

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. — Marchjuly (talk) 22:08, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Where do I send a screen shot showing the image is mine edit

@ Marchjuly Koncurrentkat (talk) 22:14, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Koncurrentkat. Unfortunately, this file’s Exif data indicates that it comes from Facebook. Facebook’s licensing requirements aren’t compatible with the Wikimedia Foundation’s, so this file cannot really be kept. A screen image is not going to be accepted for verification purposes because of this and because there’s no way to verify the screen image itself. If you’re the original copyright holder (i.e, the photographer who took the photo), then please follow the instruction listed at c:COM:OTRS#Licensing images: when do I contact OTRS?. If you’re not the original copyright holder, then please follow c:COM:OTRS#If you are NOT the copyright holder. — Marchjuly (talk) 22:22, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@ Marchjuly So upload a version of the photo that has never been on Facebook then? Koncurrentkat (talk) 22:25, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
This can be tricky for files which have been previously published (posted online) and OTRS verication if WP:CONSENT is still most likely going to be needed. Two possible things you can try:
  1. Upload the original file from your camera to Wikimedia Commons and use the Interactive Release Generator for verification purposes.
  2. Add a source link for the file on Facebook to the file’s information template. A direct link to the specific file is better than a general link to Facebook account. Email your consent to WP:Contact OTRS; make sure your email covers all the relevant points in WP:CONSENT and contains a link to the Wikipedia page for the file. Add Template:OTRS pending to the file’s. Wait until the verification process runs its course.
If the file gets deleted before you do #2, don’t panic. It’s not gone forever, only hidden from public view. It can be restored later after OTRS verification. — Marchjuly (talk) 22:53, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Daneta Wollmann moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Daneta Wollmann, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). South Dakota Attorney General election, 2018 moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, South Dakota Attorney General election, 2018, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Eisenhower on Hobo Day.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Eisenhower on Hobo Day.jpg.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Vic Godfrey edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Vic Godfrey requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.sdshof.com/inductees/vic-godfrey/.

Proposed deletion of File:James E. McMahon, cropped.jpg edit

The file File:James E. McMahon, cropped.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Your draft article, User:Koncurrentkat/Sanford School of Medicine edit

Hello, Koncurrentkat. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Sanford School of Medicine".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

File permission problem with File:Gerhard von Rad.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Gerhard von Rad.jpg.

If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chianti (talk) 09:43, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
