We don't use Wikipedia as a reference
editHello Kntripp, Thank you for your efforts to improve UAA/APU Consortium Library by adding a reference. Unfortunately I've had to remove it because we don't use Wikipedia as a source. This is both because it contains user generated content and to avoid the circular sourcing that could occur if Wikipedia articles referred to each other as sources. - Thank you for the input and information. I wondered about this when I did it, but had originally found the article on what appeared to be a non-Wikipedia wiki (?), but in the process of adding the citation was prompted with a link to a more recent version of the article, on Wikipedia. Also, please note that I reworked the sentence in question as well, but neglected to mention as much in the edit summary. The sentence had read that the pendulum was the furthest north in the world, while the article (list) indicated that there's one in Iceland that's further north, so I changed it to read North America when adding the citation (which is how it still reads, even after you removed the citation). I think the current text is more accurate--but no citation for either version, at this point.Kntripp (talk) 23:30, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
- I've looked for supporting sources myself with nothing solid found. Claims of 1st, biggest, most significant and so on are a challenge when there is no recognized authority tracking them. The wording change is reasonable although, as you say, there is still no citation supporting it. Another option is to re-word the claim as "The UAA/API CL claims to have the northern most permanent Foucault pendulum..." which could cite their website. Gab4gab (talk) 15:27, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
