Contributing to Wikipedia edit

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia. I'd like to let you know that there have been some controversies regarding your contributions to Slovakia and Great Moravia. First off, I'd like to ask you to take a look at Wikipedia: How to write a great article, Wikipedia: Manual of style and Wikipedia:Cite sources before you make other contributions. In the case of the articles I mentioned, please, to make things go smoother, do not edit them again before talking to the other users on the articles' talk pages. Thank you, Redux 04:01, 24 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

No problem Redux. Only, I am curious, are you an official monitor of wikipedia of just a kid looking to waste time on a chat room?

I believe you have already found out about this since you wrote here, but I am what we call an Administrator, a user with certain extra attributions (some call it "powers") on the website. It is part of my job as an Administrator to help preventing articles from becoming unstable due to differences of opinion between contributors. If you would like to know more about Administrators, please visit Wikipedia:Administrators. Thank you for engaging in discussions regarding the articles in question. I expect Pavel and Juro will have something to say about your posts there, but I believe we've taken a big step towards resolving this, which also means unlocking the article again. Regards, Redux 10:48, 25 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the information Redux and have a great week.--Knieza 02:00, 26 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Knieza, you do not need to ask for permission or supervision to edit on Wikipedia. To help you get better acquainted with how our project works, I'd suggest you take a look at Wikipedia:Five pillars and Wikipedia:Writers rules of engagement. Also, for a broader view of the rules that apply in Wikipedia, please visit Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines. Regards, Redux 02:11, 29 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging Image:Slovak folk costumes.JPG edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Slovak folk costumes.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image copyright problem with Image:Tatras valley.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Tatras valley.JPG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Bastiqueparler voir 22:40, 7 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Rastislav, Constantine, and Methodius.JPG edit

A tag has been placed on File:Rastislav, Constantine, and Methodius.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File permission problem with File:Bojnice Castle.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading File:Bojnice Castle.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 00:11, 23 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Pribina Statue.JPG edit

Thank you for uploading File:Pribina Statue.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:21, 23 December 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 20:21, 23 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:King Svätopluk.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading File:King Svätopluk.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Kelly hi! 20:26, 23 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

File copyright problem with File:Nitra Coat of Arms.JPG edit

Thank you for uploading File:Nitra Coat of Arms.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:30, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Nitra Coat of Arms.JPG edit

The file File:Nitra Coat of Arms.JPG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Superseded by c:File:Coat of Arms of Nitra.svg

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 02:18, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
