Speedy deletion nomination of User:Kkliese/eCom Merchant Solutions edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Kkliese/eCom Merchant Solutions, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. WuhWuzDat 20:06, 24 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of ECom Merchant Solutions edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on ECom Merchant Solutions requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

I deleted ECom Merchant Solutions edit

Please note WP:NOTDIR, in particular, "Contact information such as phone numbers, fax numbers and email addresses are not encyclopedic"

Please also see WP:NOTADVERTISING, particularly point 5.--SPhilbrickT 22:57, 29 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Give me a few minutes to look at the article, and I'll provide more information about why it is not acceptable.--SPhilbrickT 19:25, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

More detail: I can't believe you would compare the article you started to WalMart, which has well over 100 references, many of which are high-quality. I'll assume that was a mistake. Authorize.Net is a better comparison. I have to point out WP:OSE, which says in short, that you cannot win a deletion argument simply by pointing out that th article you want to keep is better than some article which has been kept. That said, I do think it is relevant to look at comparable articles.

If you look at the talk page Talk:Authorize.Net, you'll see that the article has been nominated for deletion. Obviously, it survived, but the mere fact that it was proposed is a sign (not proof, just a sign) that it is a borderline article, not an example of the best, and should be viewed as a minimum hurdle. The lede of eCom is quite short; in its entirely it reads :

eCom Merchant Solutions, Inc. is a merchant services provider.

Compare that to the lede of Authorize:

Authorize.Net is a payment gateway service provider allowing merchants to accept credit card and electronic checks payments through their Web site and over an IP (Internet Protocol) connection. Authorize.Net claims a user base of over 305,000 merchants, which would make them the Internet's largest payment gateway service provider.[citation needed]

In November 2007 Cybersource purchased Authorize.Net for $565 million.[1] Authorize.Net was originally purchased in 2004 by Lightbridge for $82 Million[2].

The latter won't win any awards, but it at least tells you something about the company. To your credit, you included a wikilink for "merchant services" but wikilinks are so readers can learn more in-depth information, not basic information. The average reader doesn't know what is included in merchant services, and even if they read the link that doesn't tell them what eCom does.

Please read WP:Lede which will give you a better sense of what is required in a lede section.

You do have a cryptic list in a section oddly title "claims" Why "claims"? And where did you get this information? I see you have a link to the eCom main page, but I don’t see that information on that page. The history page includes phone numbers. Not acceptable. You only have four references, one of which is the company site, the others of which are directory type listings. They are fine for verifying information, but they do not count toward establishing notability, which requires multiple references in reliable sources.

There are other problems, but this is a start. The article as originally written does not meet our minimum standards for an encyclopedia article. If you'd like to try again, start it in a user subpage. User:Kkliese/eCom Merchant Services That won't attract those who want to delete so quickly, and will give you more time to get something into adequate shape.--SPhilbrickT 20:17, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

thank you for your inpute. i am a novice at this, and although i wasn't at all trying to state my article was any better than anyone else's, i was simply pointing out the comparibles. I will makes your noted changes and hope for the best. please advise on how to create a user subpage. i had tried to do that originally, but then couldn't find it again. and, having accomplished that, how do i submit it for approval PRIOR to posting it? thank you. I created it as a user subpage, you can begin editing in that page, and won’t get disturbed.
When you think you are ready, go to WP:FEED and ask for feedback.--SPhilbrickT 21:45, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 22:49, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
