I strongly disagree with this essay. For two reasons: 1. Wikipedia is not yet at the point where it can be relied upon to give factual evidence in any subject. Because the articles are open to editing, their integrity can be compromised at any point. 2. As a note to you and any and all students who will write research papers...never...never cite an encyclopedia in a research paper unless it has been considered an authority in the field (like the Oxford Classical Dictionary), and even if you do cite one of these authorities, it should never be your only or principle citation. Brittanica quote

From the essay: “Negroes are inherently inferior to white people.” ... that quote can be found in an older edition of Encyclopedia Britannica [1]. Do you have a reference for that isn't password protected (or else, could you include the username and password needed to access it inside the ref tag)? I (and, I'm sure, many other people) would be interested to see that quote in context. (BTW, CaveatLector is correct: no tertiary sources, including encyclpedias, should ever be used as sources in research papers). -- simxp (talk) 18:14, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
