Signatures edit

I happened to see the message you had left on my talk page--if you haven't figured it out yet, they key is to set the signature to raw format in your preferences. This will allow it to skip processing of any tags in your signature, and they'll come out as colors when you sign. If you need more details, let me know. —LactoseTIT 05:23, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Here's what mine looks like:

—<font face="Verdana" color="#003399">'''[[User:LactoseTI|LactoseTI]]'''</font>[[User_talk:LactoseTI|<small style="color:#009933;">T</small>]]

I haven't finished tweaking it, but it works for now. Hopefully this will give you something to go on; if not, let me know what you're trying to do and I'll try to help. —LactoseTIT 01:44, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Dokdo article edit

Regarding Dokdo article, I changed the introduction to look like that of Senkaku islands article. Some Japanese editors insist on using the word 'control' over 'administer' and making the first sentence of the article "Dokdo is one of the several terms that refer to .. " instead of "Dokdo is a group of ...". Last time I did that was about a year ago, and a flock of Japanese editors (i think about 5-6) who were active in Japwiki (but not Engwiki) came over to Engwiki to constantly revert. Seems doubly hypocritic to me that some would insist on different standards on "disputed" islands. Just wanted to hear your opinion. Deiaemeth 05:38, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Try to understand edit

You are right: it does lower my ability to persuade effectively when I insult.

But when JPOVs get under my skin and act rather pathetically, I have no idea how to reason with them. Sorry again. Oyo321 02:59, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Esperanza! edit

Welcome, KiteString, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Double Bind on Hideyoshi's invasions of Korea edit

In policy debate, there is an argument called double bind. Either you get what you want on this but fails to do that and lose the whole round or you don't fail to do that but you don't get what you want and lose the whole round.

Basically, I put the search results for Japanese Invasions of Korea & Hideyoshi's Invasions of Korea. They'll say "you didn't put quotation marks" so it can be either Japanese occupation of Korea whatever.

And then I can say, "if that's the case, then EITHER your arguments against using quotation marks on Hideyoshi's Invasions of Korea is annulled & Imjin War is proved to be more common, which means that Imjin War should be the title OR your arguments don't apply in the current debate & Japanese Invasions of Korea should be used because it's the most common title. (Wikimachine 02:31, 3 October 2006 (UTC))Reply

And incorrectly so, of course; the fact is that the generic invasions search can turn up unrelated searches--why not guarantee the result by including Hideyoshi's name somewhere? Or find another suitable marker which will totally disambiguate the results. The term "Hideyoshi" is probably the easiest/best, since it is so closely associated with the conflict (thus, the name of the page). —LactoseTIT 12:51, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Let's discuss this in the talk page. (Wikimachine 23:49, 3 October 2006 (UTC))Reply

November Esperanza Newsletter edit

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Replaceable fair use Image:Yamaha MOTIF XS8.gif edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Yamaha MOTIF XS8.gif. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 72.88.75.41 (talk) 04:04, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:00, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
