Argentine footie barnstar:A gift from His Baldness and Mr Bigglesworth

File:Maradona1980.jpg   The Maradonna football award
Awarded to the King of the Northeast (shouldn't this be south west?) for his excellent contributions to Argentine football. Touched by the hand of god, His Baldness and his kitty Mr Bigglesworth thankyou for your expansion in this area. Saludos ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 21:33, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes that was partly why I gave you the award because I saw you had uploaded many photos for them/ Keep up the good work! I recently wrote Deforestation in Brazil which I am hoping will do well in the competition to win $100. Some time I'll aim to write an environmental type article on Argentina ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 15:09, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes I know!! But I enjoyed writing the article anyway. I am looking for a way to make money online permanently and not have to work in some crappy office 9 to 5. I am currently selling on ebay but not making enough. I hear all these tales of making thousands of dollars (pounds) a week. Potentially this is possible but it seems most of the sites which promise thingg sloike this are only after your subscription money aren't they? Do you have any tips for making money online -seriously now ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 17:39, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes!! I'm lucky though as I come from a pretty well off family but I'm at the stage where I need a full time job -a career. Howver great wikipedia is it just isn't economic for my bank balance! Over the last few years I've worked late evenings into the night -a part time job which got me through uni -but it kind of went on longer than I intended and I was getting by anyway- but I finished that job last month as I feel its time to move onto something else and a career -I've always found editing wikipedia relaxing most of the time -I couldn't be having a 9-5 job in some office someplace -its just not me. But I'm now 24 and I seriously need to think about a career (I need to be saving up to buy my own place) but I can't see myself working conventional hours and having to get up every morning early five days a week .I have a BSc in Geography but I have always fancied that someday I could make a lot in business - . I am kind of biding my time at present -I have no idea at all what to do but it is clear my future isn't permantently with wikipedia -unless they can begin paying us! -some day I won't be around to make so many crazy edits. Where I live there really aren't many jobs that seem attractive to me and I wouldn't want to live in [{Cardiff]] and work there either. What would be ideal is to find something online where I can make thousands a month and only have to do limited work on it in the daytime, and lead my own life on my terms and not be poor. At present I'm looking into buying wholesale goods in bulk and selling them off individually. Hopefully I can raise enough money to start investing in high priced goods and invest in some shares and get me off to a start until one day I can set up my own business -this is what I'd be happest doing I think. I feel Ihave a lot of potential but it is breaking into it isn't it. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 18:06, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

As I'm sure you are aware it feels a lot better editing wikipedia knowing you haven;t got any money troubles!! I'll be looking around over the next few weeks. At present I'm in contact with this guy in Philadelphia who is into internet marketing and I'm trying to learn about it ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 18:19, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, I saw you answered at my request of translating Claudio Morel to Claudio Morel Rodríguez, but the change hasn't been done yet and Claudio Morel Rodríguez is still a redirection page and it hasn't got the real name in the title yet. Speedy deletion of Rodrigo Díaz (footballer)

edit

A tag has been placed on Rodrigo Díaz (footballer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Rodrigo Díaz (footballer)

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Rodrigo Díaz (footballer), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Rodrigo Díaz (footballer). Sting_au Talk 12:50, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

No worries - the guy claims he'll take it to AfD unless there are some references added by tomorrow, but hopefully he'll get the message once all the "speedy keep" votes come in... пﮟოьεԻ 57 16:27, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Buddy!

I'm afraid I'm no longer at my previous work, were I had a lot of free time. Having a real job and a family leaves me very little time for Wikipedia, and even though I might come see what's up from time to time, I'm no longer an active contributor.

But I see you have been very productive also during my absence. Remember that if you need anything with certain urgency, you can send me a mail with the E-mail this user option; that I will read soon enough.

Take care, Mariano(t/c) 19:03, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re Lanus

edit

Yeah thanks. I'm pretty hard on articles without references to reliable sources. You've done heaps of work on your football player articles, and they do look good. I don't take putting CSD tags on articles lightly when I'm doing a new page patrol. The verifiability was my major concern. Now the reflist is there it can always be added to. Articles evolve over time and that one will no doubt have further info added in due course. If I could read Spanish I probably could have added heaps! I also think the in line citations look so much better in an article than just relying on a link to a web blog. Cheers, Sting_au Talk 02:09, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have posted several currency images to WP in the past. All of them are my own photos of obsolete currency from my own personal collection. Someone shows up now complaining about lack of fair use rationale and wants to delete them. You have successfully argued on the fair use issue. Would you please look at this example (which IMO covers the hundreds if not thousands of images of obsolete currency bills and coins already in Wikipedia and Commons): Argentina:50 peso Moneda Nacional 1964. Thanks for any help, advice or pointers you can give me to fight this issue. -- Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 02:20, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, the information helps. One issue I just noticed is that the poster said:t "commons does not allow fair use" but local wikipedias do, so all I have to do is post to en:WP, which IMO negates the benefits of posting to Commons in the first place, but if that is the way they want it... -- Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 20:09, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re playing for five minutes for St Helens RFC- is there a source for this? If so, I would think it can go in the article, but seems a bit of a waste of a category entry since it's not what readers, rugby fans or not, will be expecting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rodhullandemu (talkcontribs) 16:46, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have obeyed your command and added the missing source for the category. I have no intention of chasing the person who removed it for vandalism, because his removal of the category was entirely correct and in compliance with policy. If you want to take it up with him, do it yourself. And apologies for failing to sign one edit out of over 6000 in five months when I'm in the middle of dealing with an issue over at WP:AN. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 18:20, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I understand now. I hadn't realised he had removed sourced material. I just look at the diff in Twinkle & if it looks like nonsense, it gets reverted. Certainly, if he does it again, he will get a warning, followed by a smacked botty. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 20:30, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'm doing articles on the football seasons in Paraguay such as 2007 in Paraguayan football, 2006 in Paraguayan football, etc. and I borrowed the table style that you guys use in the yearly Argentine football seasons articles, more precisely in the "Argentina National Team" section. I hope that's cool with you guys, I liked that table style a lot. Regards. Bruno18 (talk) 15:52, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't actually know anything in particular about the transfer happening or not; just aware of the cautionary tale of Juan Sebastian Veron. About 4 weeks ago his acquisition by DC United was being widely reported in the media and assumed to be true. Edits were made (and reverted as premature) and then the deal fell through. The recent hiring of Les Miles by Michigan - as reported by ESPN - falls into the same category of "probably going to happen but hasn't yet and may not still." My own standard is, when the club announces it, then it has happened. Until then it's rumor or speculation. JohnInDC (talk) 17:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, the truth is that it is almost certain to happen. And you are plainly better informed on the subject than me! I don't follow really any soccer teams but DC United, so this source is quite limited in scope, but this fellow Goff is well-informed and pretty cautious (though even he mis-reported Veron too): http://blog.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/ JohnInDC (talk) 18:03, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Missing locators

edit

I've red linked the templates ready for creating here -see User:Blofeld of SPECTRE/Missing locator maps After this we will be able to add an infobox and map locator to any place on the planet. I've begun working my way through them. As always Dutch wikipedia has everything sorted out and has the digits which can be quickly copied. I've begun creating them like Template:Location map Argentina etc. Perhaps you could think about using infobox settlements for Argentina and add the new locator map for geogrpahical articles ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 13:20, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

There seems to be a problem with the infobox reading the template. It should be reading it. Mmm. We'll have to wait until User:MJCDetroit wakes up. It should be working like Abaw, Siem Reap etc where we can add an infobox and locator map as normal. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:17, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

An image

I;ve managed to get some of my templates to work but all thats coming out for Monte Hermoso at present is the map but no town locator as yet. I'll ask Detroit when he returns later ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:14, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps you want to upload this. e.g Adolfo Zumelzú is fourth on the right from the back left. If you can identify each of the players you could crop it and add the individuals ones to the biographies also . Just a thought ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 17:04, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

See here. Those past images mught be very useful. If you need anything cropped or whatever let me know ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 17:08, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't know if you can get hold of a package for free. I use Paint Shop Pro 7 and Photo Impression 5 -my old man got them a while back. I can crop a few if you need them. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:21, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

There we are sorry about the small size Adolfo Zumelzú -most of the others would be larger ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:35, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Could you start an article on Oscar Tarrio. I'll upload the image ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:39, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

See Adolfo Zumelzú -best I could do. Obviously the larger you resize it the more out of focus it will get .Could you start Tarrio then? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:52, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I;ve created my own map now and it works. See Azul, Buenos Aires, Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires etc. Every city, town village article in Argentina now should have an infobox and map like this ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 18:51, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I moved the pages because places in Buenos Aires have always confused me. I always used to think when it siad e.g Azul, Buenos Aires it was a suburb of the city but it refers to the province. If the town lies outside the greater Buenos Aires area I think its important to clarify that it is in Buenos Aires Province not the city. Some of the places like Azul are at least 300 km from the urban city. I;ve left settlements that are within the greater Buenos Aires area as just Buenos Aires. You see? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 09:35, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yep I agree those pages are looking good and make one hella difference. One thing though can you tag the articles as WikiProject Argentina|class=stub or whatever so it lists the article under the project articles. Aren;t you a member of the project itself? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:21, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looking really good!! I'll try to add some infoboxes when I have time ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:12, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please take a look at Lucas Castromán. There is an edit war starting with somebody from Chile that keeps reverting without explanation, and without a response to notices. The link provided points to nothing about this. His link is probably wrong. In any case I do not think the paragraph should be there at all as it talks about a failed offer from Birmingham. Cities and villages

edit

I've completely reorganized cities towns and vilages in chile in Category:Cities, towns and villages in Chile by region -this avoids complicated overlapping city and town categories as what is a city is often subject to debate. I've added an infobox to settlements in a few regions of Chile already. I've noticed many of the Argentine city/towns articles have duel categories like Category:Cities in Buenos Aires Province and Category: Settlements in Buenos Aires Province. I think it would be best to have one category Category:Cities, towns and villages in Buenos Aires Province and organize all Argentine settlements by province in this way. The thing is many of the places are not really cities, they are often small towns, villages or even hamlets in some of the partidos. This would be the best way to do it I think and keep categories simplified. I am aiming eventually to revamp most of Latin America and Afirca in this way -this will also prepare for more articles on smaller settlements in the future where it wouldn't seme right to label them just cities. Your work to date on adding those infoboxes really makes a remarkable difference to them! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:11, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
