Discussion on WP:ROUTINE edit

Greetings, I started a RFC at Wikipedia talk:Notability (people) that concerns an issue you mentioned at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wink Hartman. I do not know how to mass send notification to others involved, or if it is necessary, but I did mention the AFD and you might have interest. I am also notifying @Cbl62:, @DGG:, and @Paulmcdonald:, not because of any !votes but as admins likely to close, and opinions concerning inclusion or exclusion, at the location. If I have made any errors please feel free to correct them or whatever action might be necessary for the discussion. Otr500 (talk) 19:30, 13 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Out of those I don't see any that would constitute significant coverage of the subject except for sources which are not considered fully independent, such as a CV or interview. What matters is quality, not quantity. -- King of ♠ 04:10, 24 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

unblock query edit

You unblocked wnt, with a rationale about "having learned their lesson" in your judgement. Did you discuss this with anyone else before doing that, such as the blocking or reviewing admins? cygnis insignis 04:21, 24 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have been following the conversation. Wnt pinged El C on 18 July 2019 but got no response, so when they posted again on 23 July 2019 I unblocked him. It is not fair for a user to remain unblocked if the blocking admin simply does not respond for days. -- King of ♠ 02:10, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
As they were not the only party involved, and the given seriousness of the concern, would you consider asking for a review of your action? cygnis insignis 02:14, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
You can bring it to ANI if you want, but I warn you that the most likely outcome will be that you'll just be asked to drop the WP:STICK because at this point reblocking him wouldn't really serve a purpose. -- King of ♠ 04:58, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
I didn't respond because I had nothing further to add. I had already said at that point that although I continue to have reservations, I won't stand in the way of consensus to unblock. I'm not sure whether such consensus exists, and I don't support this unblock — but I am not objecting, either. El_C 05:05, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
My belief is that if everyone is relatively apathetic about a block, then the best solution is to just give them some WP:ROPE. Maybe they change their ways, or maybe they end up hanging themselves. -- King of ♠ 05:16, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Worth noting you are a habitué of the page that gave rise to this action, so yes, your warning is duly noted. You didn't venture to discuss the matter with those concerned, and claim a weak consensus on the basis that you see it as being taught a lesson. cygnis insignis 06:14, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

WP:NCTV dispute tag edit

I just noticed your edit to WP:NCTV. What exactly is that based on? I can't recall any dispute discussion on this matter on the page. The last proposed change was by me if I'm not mistaken. --Gonnym (talk) 21:13, 24 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

It's based on Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (television)/Archive 15#Additional disambiguation. As written, NCTV appears to mandate Winterfell (Game of Thrones) rather than Winterfell (Game of Thrones episode) since the location of Winterfell doesn't have its own article (despite being a primary redirect), but a consensus of people have agreed that it is nonsensical in this case, and so the guideline should be changed to reflect reality. If you have a suggested wording I'm all ears, and we can restart that conversation. -- King of ♠ 02:07, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
I still don't understand why it couldn't have gone from Where the title is the same as an episode, character, or other element from the show which has its own page, disambiguate further using Title (Show episode/character/element). to Where the title is the same as an episode, character, or other element from the show, disambiguate further using Title (Show episode/character/element). - that is basically all that's needed. As a side note, I'd really wish you hadn't added that dispute tag or at least added it to the specific sub-section you meant, as in a different RM discussion people are using that dispute tag to ignore the guideline for the base section completely. --Gonnym (talk) 05:37, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Well, we don't want to put it in such absolute terms. Your suggested change, taken literally, would mean that Death (South Park) would have to be at Death (South Park episode) to accommodate the one-off character who appears only in that episode. We would either need to specify a list of exceptions (keeping in mind that "no exceptions" is too narrow and "has its own page" is too broad), or hedge and say that disambiguating using element type is merely a possible choice to be applied with discretion. -- King of ♠ 13:35, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
And so? What harm will come from that death episode moving? This follows exactly WP:INCDAB. There is no primary topic for a qualifier, so for any given series, the same name can, and would, be equally ambiguous. In your given example - the episode is not coincidentally named after the character that appears in that episode. --Gonnym (talk) 14:58, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
That's your opinion though. Netoholic occupies the opposite ground, for example. I'm somewhere in the middle, but probably closer to your position than his. In the end we need to propose some wording and get a consensus of people to agree on the compromise. -- King of ♠ 17:07, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
While a good editor, he is known for not allowing any change to go into the guideline. On the other hand, "my" opinion is backed up by RMs and NCTV discussion on this subject that that have shown that editors (a) don't think incomplete disambiguation can be a primary of anything and (b) that for the same TV series, same name topics should be disambiguated - taking these two together produces the only logical conclusion - anything else is just beating around the bush. Unrelated to whether we'll reach a conclusion here, could you please edit NCTV and place your tag in the correct sub-section, as your issue is with the 2nd part (Where the title is the same as an episode... and not the whole section. As I've stated above, other editors are taking your dispute tag as open-season on the whole character guideline. --Gonnym (talk) 18:36, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
I moved the tag, and have continued the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (television)#Disambiguation by element. -- King of ♠ 04:36, 26 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sockpuppetry edit

ダルメーター, who is the suspected sockmaster at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/ダルメーター, became active again. At Category talk:Wikipedia sockpuppets of ドグリ (PermaLink), another user from the Japanese Wikipedia has recently expressed concern about his sockpuppetry, claiming that ダルメーター is the same person as ドグリ, who has been indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry in the English Wikipedia (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/ドグリ). In the Japanese Wikipedia, ダルメーター admits that he is the same person as Q3opsp (Diff), and Q3opsp admits that he is the same person as ドグリ (Diff). As seen at ja:Wikipedia:進行中の荒らし行為/長期/ダルメーター (LTA case page on ダルメーター), he has created dozens of sockpuppets since 2016, and ドグリ has been blocked as one of his sockpuppets in the Japanese Wikipedia. I think the situation has changed since you closed the SPI in 2017 and WP:ILLEGIT applies here. Can I ask you to block the user? Regards, 153.214.224.98 (talk) 09:49, 27 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

I'm not really active at SPI anymore; you can file a new request and someone will look at it. -- King of ♠ 21:47, 27 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
