  Join us for a full Sunday of social Wikipedia editing at the Center for Jewish History (drop-in any time!), during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles pertaining to Women in Jewish History. All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required. Expanding coverage of Jewish women on Wikipedia makes these women and their creations discoverable, addresses the gender bias on Wikipedia in a positive way, and works to correct imbalances archival collecting practice and institutional projects that have historically silenced women's narratives. A training session on editing Wikipedia will be held at 12:30 pm. Experienced Wikipedians will be on-hand to assist throughout the day. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will have library resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics on hand. Light refreshments will be provided. Make edits! Ask questions! Be bold!

Hi there. Would you be able to unprotect Banter? It's currently editable only by sysops and although there have probably been good reasons for that when you protected it back in 2006, I'm not sure I see why it should continue to be kept like that now. Thanks! Uanfala (talk) 15:23, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

- @Lectonar: Why would anyone want to edit wikipedia? The fact that something is good enough doesn't mean editors should be kept off it. As far as I know we don't event do that to FAs on controversial topics. My request isn't about the specific minor edit I was planning to make, but about the necessity (or lack of such) of the protection level at this point. Thanks! Uanfala (talk) 15:40, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

  You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-9pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop at Babycastles gallery by 14th Street / Union Square in Manhattan. Featuring special guest presentations on Wikipedia Asian Month and Wikipedia Club at Ohio State University. We will include a look at the organization and planning for our chapter, and expanding volunteer roles for both regular Wikipedia editors and new participants. We will also follow up on plans for recent (Art+Feminism! AfroCrowd!) and upcoming edit-a-thons, and other outreach activities. We welcome the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from all educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects. After the main meeting, pizza/chicken/vegetables and refreshments and video games in the gallery!

- Wikimedia wikis now use AuthManager. If you have new problems related to logging in or being logged in, report them. [4]
- Visiting Special:Notifications doesn't automatically mark notifications as read anymore. You can go between read, unread or all notifications on Special:Notifications. Notifications on Special:Notifications are grouped by day. You can mark every daily group as read individually. Notifications are displayed by groups of 50 on Special:Notifications and you can find former notifications by using navigation arrows. [5][6][7][8]

So, I was very offended and angry for a long long time because you had an article about my band deleted. I have since gotten over it and understand wiki's rules, and guidelines. Because of what happened, it is now my goal to have as many articles deleted as physically possible on this website and I thank you for that. It is a passion of mine to have articles erased, removed, and taken off, so no space is wasted. The deletion log and policies are a second bible to me, I have read them over and over and over. I absolutely love having them removed it is a passion of mine, so I thank you fore igniting that. - Notifications were not always marked as read when you followed a link from an email notification. This will now happen. [11]
Changes this week
- The list of other languages an article is available in will be shorter on small Wikipedias and non-Wikipedia projects. This is to make it easier to find the most relevant languages for each user. You will still be able to see the other languages. [12][13]
- Alerts (the red badge) will not be automatically marked as read when you open the Notifications popup. [14]
- When you get several thanks you can see them as one notification. This is instead of one notification for each thanks. [15]

All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required. Also featuring a lightning talk by CUNY students at the La Guardia and Wagner Archives on a project to document local 1980s HIV/AIDS activism on Wikipedia. Dear King: I recently noticed that you deleted a page called Lost and Found (the band). I'm not sure I understand this since nothing on the page is inaccurate. The band was around for 29 years, released 18 CDs, won a Grand Prize in the John Lennon international Songwriting contest twice, played thousands of concerts, visiting hundreds of cities around the world. I need some help understanding how the existence of this page was even on your radar and bothered you enough to invest the time and energy to delete it. Recent changes
- The ORES service has now moved to a new location. This should make it easier to use ORES. The ORES review service is now available as a beta feature on Wikidata and Persian Wikipedia. ORES is an artificial intelligence system for Wikimedia wikis to help editors. [16]
- The order of wikis in collapsed cross-wiki notifications was different than when the list was expanded. This is now fixed. [17]
- A new category for tracking pages with math errors was added: Category:Pages with math errors. [18]
Problems
- The Wikimedia Etherpad crashed on June 23. Some edits done that day have been lost. They can be found at etherpad-restore.wikimedia.org for another few days. [19][20]
Changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 28 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 29 June. It will be on all wikis from 30 June (calendar).
- The way to mark notifications as read or unread will be changed to be more clear. [21]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 28 June at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The Collaboration team at the Wikimedia Foundation will look at developing better tools for edit review. This is because research suggests we scare away newcomers who want to help. [22]
- An e-mail from the Editing Department explains the technical work that is planned and being researched for the future. Items include better wikitext and visual editing, prompts for edits, language improvements, annotations, and meta-data separation. [23]
- The sorting of Notifications into the two fly-out menus is going to change on July 5 to 7. Bundled notifications should be easier to explore and mark as read individually. [24][25][26]
- From 29 June git.wikimedia.org (running Gitblit) will redirect all requests to Phabricator. The vast majority of requests should be correctly redirected. [27]
- Catalan and Polish Wikipedias will have Wikidata descriptions added to articles in the mobile view by default. This is currently a beta option for the mobile versions. This might come to other wikis later. [28]

- You will need to contact Donaldytong for that, I did not take the photo. But in general, you do not need to ask permission to reuse images on Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons as long as they have been released under a free license. This particular one is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License, which means that you can use it as long as you credit the author and agree to distribute any modified versions of it under the same license if you choose to create any. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 03:52, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Is there a more current tool for closing FfD besides yours (User:King of Hearts/closeffd.js)? And if not, any chance you would be willing to update it? As far as I can tell, it doesn't work anymore and it could be really useful czar 06:04, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

- You must be looking at the "File history" section at the bottom. That indicates who uploaded the file, but not necessarily who created it. If you look at the "Summary" section, it indicates that King Eliot is the author of the file. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 00:29, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
