Sources needed for Days of the Year pages

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Please do not add new additions to these pages without direct sources as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages. Thank you. I'm not intentionally vandalizing or being disruptive. I don't understand what is happening and still don't fully understand how to even communicate when there is an issue. Please work with me as I am not trying to harm any portion of the site. I was trying to further link back to the recent article I created. While you've gone through and undone some of my edits, I'm still navigating and trying to figure out what I did wrong and where I made mistakes. Please advise. Thanks for responding. You're adding a lot of stuff without citations. That's particularly important on articles on days of the years, like February 25. See my note above. That means adding a WP:CITE to the page when you add the date of birth, death or other event. Linking to a wikipedia article is not enough. Toddst1 (talk) 01:59, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

I've just learned the hard way we can't both be editing a talk page at the same time, perhaps unless I hit show preview first. My mistake again.

I do have a question about Sally Wainwright page. So even though I didn't touch her birth year because I edited the page after a rule change a new rule requirement was triggered, thus causing a similar issue with citations? Kimdorris (talk) 02:07, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

Perhaps you should read both WP:BLP and WP:DOB, the two policies that I referred to in my edit summary. I think that will answer your questions. Toddst1 (talk) 16:59, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced material to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Jill Liddington. DVdm (talk) 19:10, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

I feel like you guys are being overly aggressive here. But maybe I just don't understand how Wikipedia works. In which case, I'll take the responsibility for my unintentional mistakes. There is so much documentation to read and it isn't always clear or straight forward. A new editor can't possibly learn everything there is to know about the policies and rules from the beginning. Clearly it's a learning process as one goes. And when all of the expert administrators started, I imagine, there were far fewer rules. So understand where the new guys are coming from a little bit more. Please.

• All of my changes are intended in good faith. I'm not vandalizing the site as I have seen other people do. For example, I saw a change of "Hello my name is Jeff". or "sexual deviant". on Anne Lister's page. Clearly that is vandalism.

• I'm making edits so readers know that Gentleman Jack isn't just about Anne Lister. It's about her wife, Ann Walker, too. If an article doesn't previously have a citation, then when I edit it, I'm required to provide a citation? For everything in the article? That seems to be the case with Sally Wainwright's article from yesterday/last night. And a previous edit I had attempted on Anne Lister's page. Kimdorris (talk) 20:12, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

Question about edits regarding sexuality

Hey Kim. I wanted to thank you for creating the Ann Walker page as well. I also was wondering if we could use that “repugnance” quote to clarify Ann’s sexuality for readers? Of course we can’t verify how she would have identified because she’s dead, but I feel like some quotes from Anne Lister’s are quite illuminating and I’d like to give readers the opportunity to interpret them. Katekulinski - Thanks for your question.

• I appreciate your previous edits, which I did incorporate, in good faith, reworded, and moved to the Mental Health section, which was more appropriate given the content of the edits, especially the quote.
• All edits need to considered in the context of Wikipedia rules, policies, and guidelines. Ultimately, that is what will dictate whether an edit can remain on the article or must be modified to conform.
• I believe the sentence I added near the end of the first paragraph of the Mental Health section addresses your question, "Walker struggled to accept her own sexuality, which put additional strain on her mental health as well as her relationship with Lister."
• I also changed the citation you provided, a blog, to a reliable and verifiable citation from a published author. The updated citation conforms to Wikipedia policies as well.
