49.226.148.229

Did you mean to indef-block 49.226.148.229? I suspect that it may not have been your intention to indef-block an IP, and that you intended to set an expiry time, so I thought I'd bring it to your attention. SchuminWeb (Talk) 08:00, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

You're right. I've fixed it. Killiondude (talk) 16:38, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Account creator permission

I noticed that you approved a request for the account creator permission and I was just wondering, what is the criteria for the permission? Thanks :) Theking17825 18:28, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I gave it to a steward who I deemed to be trustworthy. For more info on the right itself and who gets it you should see WP:ACCP. Killiondude (talk) 20:28, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Re: What's this about?

Actually, I was going to tag it but I thought I'd give the article a few moments in case either the author blanked the page themselves or if someone improved on the article. SwisterTwister talk 06:25, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Not sure it falls in this category. Killiondude (talk) 06:48, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Peggy Adler Reference #1 edit

Jason, Jim Bleak said that I could try a different format for the Internet access dates, so I redid the first one as an example and waited for his input (see talk @ Bxzooo). In doing so, I did not remove the news article's publication date of April 1992. That remained intact. So I do not understand your reversion of what I did, which awaited input from Jim Bleak. Please advise. Best Wishes, Bxzooo 21:05, 12 September 2011 (UTC) (talk)

Oooops! You're right. I thought the April 1992 date had remained when I looked at the preview. If it's OK, I will try Jim's suggestion again and try not to screw it up this time! Please forgive!!! Bxzooo 21:36, 12 September 2011 (UTC)(talk)
No worries. I was confused when you had made that edit, but after your post here I figured that the 1992 removal might have been on accident. Feel free to show Jim Bleak what you were intending to do. :-) Killiondude (talk) 21:37, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your kind vote of confidence -- but following some of the rhetoric I have been on the recieving end of, I'm now afraid to try anything! I'd like to swap out "retrieved" with accessed and thought that by putting the access date in parenthisis, it would distinguish it from the text coming before it -- as well as give each reference a less cluttered look. I know that this is a somewhat different format than what is currently at the article. My hope, as a new editor, is to see Wikipedia continue to evolve in so many positive ways. I guess there is the part of me that believes that anything and everything can be open for improvement/evolution. If this were not so, then women would not have the right to vote and this country would still have slavery. So much for my philosophy. Anyway -- what should I do? And BTW, do you think it would be possible, somewhere down the road, to for me, or you, or someone to add some of the links -- like the domestic violence one I wrote about when I sent you all those file attachments?? Best Wishes, Bxzooo 01:07, 16 September 2011 (UTC)(talk)
Shortly after writing the above, I got the courage to try out the format I described on the first reference point. If this "survives" I'll do the rest. Best Wishes, Bxzooo 01:21, 16 September 2011 (UTC) (talk)
Killiondude, SarakofVulcan has changed what I did back, with total disregard to what you and JimfBleak suggested I do. What next??? I even gave an explanation, which you can see at History. Do I change it back and get into a tug of war? You will see all the previous, related comments at the Peggy Adler and Bxzooo talk pages. Bxzooo 17:12, 16 September 2011 (UTC) (talk)
Well, to be honest, I don't really see what difference it makes one way or the other. Both versions mean the same thing. The only valuable way I see to the "standard" way is that it is the "standard" way and therefore the most widely used on Wikipedia. We try to be consistent as far as article structure goes. Killiondude (talk) 20:48, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
So do I have to leave it the way it now is? Or can I re-revert it? I see others that do not have what is referred to as "standard structure" and no one seems to have changed those. Why me? Bxzooo 21:24, 16 September 2011 (UTC) (talk)

Questions

Hey man, could you be a dear and remind me to ask you something about something? I don't entirely remember what it was, save for it had something to do with this guy, but I assume I'll remember later. Probably.

Cambridge geonotices

Thanks for putting them up. I enlarged the meetup notice a lot though, because Rich Farmbrough drove to a past meetup from Boston, Lincolnshire, and James F. commuted into another from London! So, I feel that the geonotice needs to include at least those two places, along with all of East Anglia where no other Wikimedia meetup is closer to them than Cambridge. Thanks. Elias Rudolph Camerarius Jr.

Dear Killiondude

I tried to create a page for Elias Rudolph Camerarius Jr., but wiki says that there was a page by that name before that was deleted by you on 18 July 2011 due to copyvio. Could you restore the article to a subdirectory of my userspace? I will edit it to clean it up and reword it and add new content. Then when you approve, I can move it over to real wiki space. Include-USGov problem

Thanks, Killion, for updating {{Include-USGov}} for the sandbox. As I was preparing to update the documentation, I noticed a serious bug that affected many of the templates that called {{Include-USGov}}: if the templates given an agency and a URL, but no article, it used to create an external link under the agency name, now it doesn't .. I fixed this bug in the sandbox version --- would it be possible to recopy the sandbox up to the main template? thanks a bunch! —hike395 (talk) 09:41, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Historic District Update + some other stuff

Jason, thought you'd be interested in my addition, today, to the article about Clinton, CT's Liberty Green Historic District. I added the study, report and enabling ordinance that created this local district in which my 1726 house is situated. Additionally, I wanted to ask you, as an administrator, to check out what appears to be a new editor (Cookiehead) who posted an box with exclamation point at my bio. I replied to him/her and then with a P.S. made reference to what he/she states at his/her own user page. First, my reply to him/her: "This article was totally accepted by the Editors ages ago. And the only recent edits, which were made in December, were to bring some recently introduced references, made by another editor, into the proper Wikipedia format -- as there were some that 1) mis-stated the Newspaper headline bring cited; 2) had no link on the Internet, to the article being cited, as is required; and 3) mis-stated the & misquoted the content of the article(s) being cited.Bxzooo 19:47, 19 January 2012 (UTC)"; and now the P.S. "Following is what User Cookiehead has to say about him/herself: "I like to go round articles putting {fact} in for minor claims of no controversy whatsoever, because I'm trying to pad my edit counts. It's important to me"; and 2) I like to open up articles with absolutely no sourcing, and make spacing edits to info boxes. Article content be damned." So he/she is merely trying to rack up as many edits as possible with no regard to content. This is NOT what Wikipedia is supposed to be about. I will not quote, here, the remainder of what he/she has to say about him/herself. If you are interested, you can go to Cookihead's user page. Bxzooo 20:16, 19 January 2012 (UTC)" Hope I didn't overstep my bounds, but this person sems to be trying to edit anything and everything just to tote up as many edits as possible. This, to me, is the wrong reason to be a Wikipedia editor. Hope all is well. Bxzooo 21:46, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Images not being loaded onto Commons

Hi Killiondude. I see over at Commons that you are an administrator over there, also. This is a situation I don't feel I know enough about to handle directly with the user, so I'm asking for your help. Unregistered User:TxHC has been uploading a lot of images directly onto Wikipedia without uploading them at Commons. Here. The uploads say they were taken in 2009, but they're 2012 uploads. Assuming these are really the work of the user, they're good images that I could use on various lists of museums pages in Texas. I am also noticing as I go down the User Contributions, this editor is also creating NRHP articles with no sourcing. I am needy enough on the images to want them uploaded to Commons without knowing how to address this issue with the editor. But I'm also a little concerned about all these unsourced NRHP articles being created. Do you think this is something you could address to that editor? Please let me know. Maile66 (talk) 00:42, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm wondering if these images really are the intellectual property of the user who is uploading them. There's no metadata and the file sizes are abnormally small (most people don't downsize prior to uploading). Plus they uploaded a logo of an organization and claimed they were the author, so that leads me to think they're just claiming everything they upload is theirs. I'll leave them a note tomorrow, I'm about to go to bed. Killiondude (talk) 08:38, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
My thoughts exactly. And thanks for this. My experience with WP is not in the realm of uploading images. Handling this is beyond my reach. Have a look at that user's talk page, under the Caddo Mountains subject. Another WP editor asked TxHC to do the uploading, and referred to Wikipedia:Uploading images.Maile66 (talk) 12:53, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
It struck me, as I was looking through their contribs, that their username is simply an abbreviation of "Texas Historical Commission". I've posted a (somewhat long) thread on their talk page about their edits. Hopefully we can get some answers. :-) Killiondude (talk) 18:09, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Err, just used a Google Images search and found this photo on Facebook. The latter being uploaded about 7 months ago. Killiondude (talk) 18:13, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Just read what you wrote on TxHC talk page. Well...you're a little more quick than I am, because it never occurred to me that this user might be connected to the Texas Historical Commission. It did go through my mind that this might be one of those editors who really has good intentions, but is green. And then again, there are so many variables on why any situation is what it is. Now we know via Facebook that one of the images was lifted. I'm surprised NRHP project assessed any of those pages without wondering if the text was lifted from somewhere.
  • I have one more issue I can't seem to get a response on (not by you). It would be good to get this out of the way. I've been trying to find an admin to look at this possibly minor issue - and being bounced with "try someone else", or being ignored. Here's the last post I tried (no response). My main concern is erroneous labeling as to the location of the statue. I know what went down when Hathorn got blocked for copyright violations. And I also know this particular photo isn't good enough to have been lifted from a pro. But I do think it's possible someone gave this to him, and he posted it as his own. Seriously, I think someone once said he lives in Laredo, so he'd know this statue isn't in his town. Since the statue was donated by the citizens of Puebla, Mexico, it's unlikely there would be a duplicate in Laredo. But, at the very least, it needs to be renamed over at Commons. Maybe even deleted to keep it off WP sister sites. If you are unable to assist, please point me in the right direction.Maile66 (talk) 18:46, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

I just read TxHC's reply to you. You're quick - the person is an employee of Texas Historical Commission. Hope you mention to load any photos over at Commons. On the other issue, if you don't know what happened with Hathorn, this is the circumstances of some of it. They got him on some BLP issues. But when this hit, a ton of photos wre also in question, and oodles got deleted. Worth looking into on the Zaragoza photo. Maile66 (talk) 19:06, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. :-) Years of doing this kind of stuff does make one a little more clueful about it. I'll look into your question in the next few hours. I don't want you to think I've ignored it--I've just got to finish some other stuff up. Killiondude (talk) 19:11, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
OK. Read your reply to TxHC. I'm glad I took this to you. I don't have the knowledge to give out the kind of advice you did. Maile66 (talk) 19:24, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
On the Hathorn issue, back up at that Carchorath. Carchorath raises more questions. But I'm starting to not care about the issue. Hurts my brain. Maile66 (talk) 22:06, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
Hey. I took a look at Carcharoth's talk page (you linked it above) and it seems to have been straightened out, somewhat. Did I understand that correctly? Killiondude (talk) 05:49, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

World Naked Gardening Day

I've read the link given by you, WP:IINFO. Since it is a directive given by the official website and is reported in a secondary source, I think it does have some weight. Per your argument, I agree the strategies described to spread awareness should be removed, but the fact that the website encourages gardeners to spread awareness should be mentioned. How about this sentence: "WNGD's official website encourages gardeners to spread awareness about this day." A brief mention without going into trivial detail. What do you think? --SupernovaExplosion Talk 06:59, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

I think each and every website about every organization, company, or event is going to ask people to "spread the word" in some form or another. In that regard it's entirely non-notable and unencyclopedic. The fact that a newspaper reprinted that bit of information doesn't really have any bearing on the issue of its triviality. I'm not that great with assessment templates. I just copied code over per an edit request. I might be able to work something out if I spent a lot of time on it, but I think it'd be a better use of everyone's time if a template wizard were to look at it. Invitation to events in June and July: bot, script, template, and Gadget makers wanted

I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon. It's 1-3 June and registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, just mention it in the registration form.

This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.

Our goals for the event are to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!

I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC and our other events.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation Volunteer Development Coordinator 14:51, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for banning that member. They've been stealing sandboxes and not listening to their warnings and it's quite discouraging. It's hard to keep up with their horrific edits. So thank you very much! MusicFreak7676 TALK! 18:45, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

No problem. Anytime a user is doing something like that, feel free to report them to WP:AIV or WP:ANI. Killiondude (talk) 18:47, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
I had intentions of doing so. I also have suspicions that an IP is the same user as Carlohotmail! MusicFreak7676 TALK! 18:49, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Edit warring at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Question-form

Please stop edit warring while discussions are ongoing. It is not helpful. Thanks. Kaldari (talk) 20:42, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I'm aware of the discussion in which you were assuming bad faith and calling others trolls for asking questions. Thank you for your help in this situation. Killiondude (talk) 20:46, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
I didn't accuse Max of trolling for asking questions, I accused him of trolling for suggesting that J-Mo doesn't know how to use a talk page and should "re-evaluate your role here" (which I would assume to mean his job). I'm happy to assume good faith up until someone starts insulting people. Kaldari (talk) 20:58, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
If one can't use a talk page (regardless of the reason why), wouldn't that require them to re-evaluate their role in trying to get people to talk to one another on Wikipedia? I'm not sure what J-Mo's job is (if it extends beyond Teahouse) but it certainly seems like MZ's post wasn't trolling, but acting out of (justifiable) anger. Re: Stop

Please don't blame me for errors on Wikipedia's part, maybe just asking me what happened instead of assuming what happened would have been a more reasonable thing to do. I am a long time Wikipedia user/member/editor, do not let the new account fool you. Remember what the teacher always said, never judge a book by its cover. You're welcome. --Zlit93 (talk) 04:04, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

lol. You moved something to the Help: namespace and to Wikipedia talk:<article name>. Like I said, please don't review things and make messes. Help in a manner where you can learn how to use Wikipedia first. Killiondude (talk) 05:57, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Abuse Filter on the Article Feedback Tool

Hey there :). You're being contacted because you're an edit filter manager, At the moment, we're developing Version 5 of the Article Feedback Tool, which you may or may not have heard about. If you haven't; for the first time, this will involve a free-text box where readers can submit comments :). Obviously, there's going to be junk, and we want to minimise that junk. To do so, we're working the Abuse Filter into the tool.

For this to work, we need people to write and maintain filters. I'd be very grateful if you could take a look at the discussion here and the attached docs, and comment and contribute! Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:20, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

new sec. for mr. killion!

Hi you. I'm getting just about sick of you. After u, blocked my account I've been stalking err watching your edits. It seems most of your edits appear to be declining submissions for new article creations, talk page edits with snarky little comments telling them how they're wrong in some way. After you tell them they're wrong you will use a snarky icon like :) or :( . Im here to tell you to get off your high horse. Regards. Also please stop using the snarky comment "Misbehaving" in your block summaries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justinoverst (talkcontribs) 00:10, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

I thought someone should let you know that your name is invoked in the preamble to Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2012_April_26#RfX-notice, just in case you weren't already aware. I mentioned you in my rationale, too. Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 14:17, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Bethlehem, Israel?

Hi,

Is there any reason you reverted my edit changing "Israel" to "West Bank" in the article on Sacramento, California?

No entity recognizes Bethlehem as part of Israel, not even the Israeli government. The only part of the West Bank whose status as a part of Israel's national territory is disputed is East Jerusalem. As for the rest of the West Bank, including Bethlehem, Israel does not claim it, and it's internationally recognized as part of the Palestinian Territories. Stating that Bethlehem is part of Israel is factually wrong; this is not a POV statement.

If you have a good argument against this, could you state it in the talk page of the article? I made a section there regarding the Bethlehem issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.248.189.169 (talk) 23:45, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Here is the page that the source for Bethlehem and Sacramento being sister cities comes from: http://www.cityofsacramento.org/SisterCities/bethlehem.htm

You'll note that even this page does not claim that Bethlehem is in Israel, so I see no reason for you doing so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.248.189.169 (talk) 23:50, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Commons gadget

Concerning commons:MediaWiki:Search-results-new-tab.js - thanks for figuring out a way to import that from the Commons to Wikipedia. Is there a way to deal with Helder's problem with it? See:

Also, is there any reason why this can not be a gadget people can turn on in preferences? --Timeshifter (talk) 14:21, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

He just wants you to replace the importScriptURI with the mw.loader.load bit. The latter is the proper way to load it now but the old way still works. With regard to the gadget, I'm not familiar with what the process to get things as gadgets is. I was going to suggest WP:Gadgets/proposals but you already started a thread there last month. You could try opening a thread on WP:VPP or WP:VPM to point people there or open a new discussion about it. Sorry I can't be of more help in that regard. Killiondude (talk) 16:31, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
Could you comment at Wikipedia:Gadget/proposals#Open search results and suggestions in new tabs? I think the discussion may need to be jump-started. What exactly is the JavaScript I should put in User:Timeshifter/common.js - I do not understand JavaScript. --Timeshifter (talk) 23:32, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
I fixed your js file. The documentation has some examples. The extent of my knowledge of js is manipulating it. I don't have that script installed so I probably wouldn't be of use in that proposal thread. I'm ambivalent about the idea of adding more to the gadgets page. As some point it gets unruly to have so many listed on one page. I think there's a script library being organized on MediaWikiwiki (see the thread some sections above where someone invited me to assist). Ideally scripts could be organized in some central location with proper documentation and people could learn how to add them to their js files. Killiondude (talk) 23:42, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! I added the new JS version to commons:MediaWiki talk:Search-results-new-tab.js#Works on Wikipedia too. As for the gadgets page length, create another tab, or add a table of contents to the gadget tab. Problem solved. Getting people to add JS to their own JS files will never be very popular. Try out the search JS. Searching actually becomes useful with it. Plus clicking the search icon on an empty form takes one to Special:Search in a new tab. --Timeshifter (talk) 06:28, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
You're very welcome. Yes, new tabs might work in preferences. I don't typically use Wikipedia's search function (I use Google with the inurl: and site: functions and use Wikipedia as a last resort if I can't find something due to robots.txt). Killiondude (talk) 07:13, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Signposts

I suggest you delete all the old Signpost notices from your talk page and archives. It will make your talk page load faster, and make it easier to find stuff. I only keep the last couple issues at most for Wikimedia Highlights on my talk page. Makes it much less unwieldy. I have the Signpost in my watchlist. I also have the latest Signpost in the top area of my talk page. Here is the wikitext: {{Signpost-subscription|left}} - each issue shows up in the same spot. No multiple copies on my talk page. --Timeshifter (talk) 06:50, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

I do need to archive. I noticed on a crappy wifi connection that it does take a bit for this page to load. As far as the Signpost, I think the "new message" bar forces me to read it. Otherwise I probably would be too lazy. Also, it's sort of a nice old-fashioned Wikipedia tradition. :) Killiondude (talk) 07:13, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Germans

Hi. I found an error in the article (see photo). Copernicus was not a German, he was from Poland. --Top811 my talk —Preceding undated comment added 15:43, 12 May 2012 (UTC).

Interesting. Well, someone can reupload a new version of File:Germans collage.jpg that has another (famous?) German instead of our friend Copernicus. (File:Nikolaus Kopernikus.jpg) Be bold and all that.
