December 2012 edit

Hello, I'm Dodger67. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added to the page Kagiso, because it seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you.   Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Kagiso. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Roger (talk) 09:53, 10 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dodge we are only helping our city by developing a website that will serve as an information, directory and news provider for our city. We only want to cite the kagiso page to atleast show correct and up to date information. The website does not serve to market and promote but to develop our city.

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Kagiso with this edit, you may be blocked from editing. Skamecrazy123 (talk) 09:58, 10 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Why don't you allow us to talk, we're not promoting or advertising we're upliftng and developing our community, if you feel there is something wrong with our cite. Then please help us to do things right.

Please read the guidelines that have already been pointed out to you above. Because Wikipedia does not allow promotion or advertising in any way at all that site will never be acceptable. Please also stop adding the promotional material to my Talk page. Roger (talk) 10:20, 10 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

This is your only warning; if you insert a spam link to Wikipedia again, as you did at Kagiso, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. How come you accepted some other websites to be published under kagiso like www.mg.co.za, I'm not promoting or advertising we're developing our city.

The mg.co.za link is a WP:REFERENCE to support a specific bit of information in the article. The Mail and Guardian is a mainstream newspaper thus it is an acceptable source. Your link does not reference any fact or claim in the article at all. Promoting the development of "your city" is still a type of promotion. You have been asked multiple times to read the guideline. You have been blocked from editing for a period of 1 day for adding spam links. Persistent spammers will have their websites blacklisted from Wikipedia and potentially penalized by search engines. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  Alexf(talk) 11:20, 10 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • I'm afraid that you seem to have missed the point. Posting links to attract people to your web site is promoting that web site. It makes no difference how noble a job that web site does, and it makes no difference whether that web site is trying to sell anything: editing to promote anything is contrary to Wikipedia policy, and that includes editing to promote a web site that is trying to "uplift" and "develop" a "community".
