14th Air Army / 14th Air Corps edit

You're better at this than me; can you dive into the Russian/Ukrainian internet and find out when 14 VA became 14 AvK? Before 1996, I presume; I will add 14 VA to the right category in the meantime. Buckshot06 (talk) 05:56, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Done, it was around the same time as the 5th Air Army became a corps as well, although I was able to find the exact date in the evidence for a court case involving the Ukrainian Air Force's land use. Kges1901 (talk) 11:55, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
    • Many thanks Kges1901 for your hard work on this. I expected it was about the same time, but to have the exact date is good. Also endorse heartily your split from 14 A PVO / 14 A VVS i PVO. When Eurocopter set them up many years ago, there was so much less data available. Now there is. But in line with Lineagegeek's work on the USAF, all the redirects should be set up, so while 2nd Comd VVS in that article would be a self-link, we should set up the redirect at some point.

2nd Army Corps edit

    • If you would like another possibly difficult job at some point, there was a 2nd Army Corps during the early 1990s (source Duncan JIR 1996). That one is not urgent at all. Buckshot06 (talk) 18:37, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Are any details provided by Duncan on this 2nd Army Corps? So far I've come up with nothing and wonder if this is erroneous. Kges1901 (talk) 11:41, 12 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
    • Andrew Duncan, "Ukraine's forces find that change is good," JIR, April 1997. Seemingly drawn from CFE reporting. "The new Odessa MD commands four army corps - the 1st, 6th, 32nd, and 2nd - with its headquarters in Donetsk." In Jan 1996 2nd Army Corps had 191 tanks, 163 ACV, 192 arty and zero attack helicopters (page 163). Now, clearly 1st comes from 1st Guards Army, 6th is 6th Army Corps, 32nd is 32nd Army Corps, but which divisions did 2nd briefly control? Buckshot06 (talk) 04:08, 13 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • @Buckshot06: Apologies, but I was unable to find anything specific on the internet except one routine proof of existence in a General Staff directive calling out its units for training issues. Kges1901 (talk) 01:45, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
      • That's a start; please do point me to the link. Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 08:17, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • @Buckshot06: Page 49 of this document. Kges1901 (talk) 11:16, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
    • Thanks. IISS MilBal 95-96, as of 1 June 1995, Ukr entry, says that in the Southern Op Command there were four corps: one with 2 mech bde, 1 arty, 1 SAM brigade, 1 ATK, 1 MRL regt (last four res) - believe that's 32 AK; 1 with 1 TD (trg), 1 MRD (res), 1 mech div, 1 SSM, 1 SAM, bde, 1 MRL regt, 1 ATK regt (res), 1 attack hel regt - believe that may be 1st Guards Army/Corps, one with 1 TD, 2 mech div, 1 SSM, 1 arty bde, 1 ATK, 1 MRL, 1 attack hel regt - possibly 6th Army Corps, and finally one corps with 1 mech div, 1 MRL regiment. That is possibly the 2AK. Page 100. Cheers and very many thanks, Buckshot06 (talk) 20:07, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Then if there was only one division with the corps it might be easy to find that division.Kges1901 (talk) 20:44, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
