Thank you edit

Thank you for the creation of the 34th and 34th Guards Rifle Divisions, plus 2nd Guards Airborne. It's a very long process because there are so many of them!! Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 22:53, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

The sources I use are in Russian, Lenskii et al and Feskov et al 2004 (now shown to be very inaccurate) and Feskov et al 2013, though this mostly deals with after 1945. Do you think you could learn how to transliterate the letters? If so, one can get an idea, and they're in PDF. Crofoot and Avanzini's works stopped after a few volumes ; you'd be better to look at Colossus REborn's Companion by Glantz, which would be a little more well-regarded, I think. But for the ace source, search the Perechenis, the official Russian lists of units. CAn you follow this document at the link - starting with first formation, 1st RD? [1] Google Translate would help you out if necessary... Buckshot06 (talk) 09:04, 8 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Neither could I until I started doing this. Most of the amazing new high-quality information is only in Russian, like the official lists, or Feskov's two books. But once you've looked at it repeatedly you'll begin to translate the common phrases:
1 СТРЕЛКОВАЯ ДИВИЗИЯ - 1 Rifle Division
I формирование - I Formation (First Formation
408, 412 и 415 сп - cn is the abbreviation for Rifle Regiment
1026 ап - artillery regiment.

32nd Guards Tank Division edit

Hi Kges1901 thankyou for creating 9th Guards Airborne. You may not be aware of two WP guidelines, the first being WP:MILMOS#UNITNAME, which states that a formation/unit should have its article at the most recent title of the formation/unit, and WP:RCAT, which states that redirects, like 14th Guards Mechanised Division, should have the categories such as Category:Mechanised divisions of the Soviet Union attached to the redirect page, not the main page of the article. You'll see the reason; right now there's an airborne division sitting in the tank divisions of the Soviet Union category. I'm not sure if you know yet about moving pages. Do you want me to do this? Kind regards Buckshot06 (talk) 04:16, 27 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Re Feskov et al 2013, one has to search via the Russian title (which you can do via http://www.ww2.dk/new/army/sources.htm). I can't quickly find the place I got the PDF from, but I'm happy to send it to you. Enable your 'Email this user' in your settings and I'll send it over, should you wish. Thank you also for 126th Guards Rifle / 10th Guards Airborne, but, please, check the www.ww2.dk site, and division page, for accuracy before using the Feskov 2004 book. There are major errors in Feskov et al 2004. If you look at the history tab of List of Soviet Army divisions 1989-91, you will see my ongoing work to correct that page from Feskov et al 2004 to Feskov et al 2013. Right now it appears that 71 MRD, 115 Guards MRD, 118 MRD, and 268 MRD have severe inaccuracies (at different locations or straight did not exist) in Feskov et al 2004, and 37, 194, and 268 MRDs were mobilisation divisions only. This problem with about six divisions resulted from my survey of only about maybe a quarter (the Guards MRDs) of Holm's www.ww2.dk division listings. Thankyou also for 53rd Army (Soviet Union) but it would be really good if you made some more efforts to clean up the translation. Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 23:07, 27 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
