Howdy edit

Hello, Kevin. You just posted a message on my talk page about reverts to the article Proof that 0.999... equals 1. I see from your user page that you do vandalism patrol. I haven't seen you around before on the mathematics pages, but such efforts are much appreciated given the weaknesses built in to Wikipedia that make constant vigilance necessary.

As it happens, my reverts were in the same spirit. Quite some time ago I wrote most of the current article, which has stood not only the test of time but also a recent ill-considered VfD — it got a speedy keep. Unfortunately, from time to time folks come along who want to "correct" it to say the assertion is false. That's mere vandalism, and the lesser of our problems. The more difficult issue is folks who want to "improve" it by changing parts or adding their favorite "proof", which invariably leaves a mess. This happens to be one of those times, and I'm sure we'll get it all sorted out before too long.

Meanwhile, the edits I was reverting essentially trashed a significant part of the article and replaced it with gibberish. That might not be obvious to someone not familiar with the delicate nature of the mathematics involved, but such is the case.

I appreciate your interest in avoiding edit wars; I assure you I won't go there. The best I know to do is to quickly revert and bring the issue to the talk page where we can sort it out. I believe that is what is now happening. Unfortunately, my day is winding down, and I'd rather sleep than palaver, so all the issues might not get resolved until tomorrow. Ah well, such is Wikipedia.

Anyway, thanks for your concern, and feel free to keep an eye on developments. --KSmrqT 00:36, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

TonyTheTiger edit

Kevin,

You seem to be the person who deleted me. Can you tell me where I am in the AfD archived delete database? Are these based on the date debates started or the date of deletion? Also, I have seen pages and/or articles deleted before. Rarely, does someone go through and delete every reference to a deleted page. I see you not only deleted Antonio Vernon, but you also deleted me from the Tony The Tiger (disambiguation), and the Vernon pages.

I am a bit curious about the AfD decisionmaking. Mainly a bunch of people who don't know martial arts questioned who I am. Wikipedia is not suppose to be a popularity contest.TonyTheTiger

I didn't delete Antonio Vernon, I did, however, remove the ref from the disambig page. A completely different user deleted the reference to your article from Vernon. If you check the page(Antonio Vernon), there's a link there that says "deletion discussion page" where you can see the deletion discussion of the AfD. Of note, you were the only one who made any sort of contesting to the deletion of the article, everyone who voiced their opinion voiced it for delete. It was pretty much a landslide deletion opinion. As such, the page was deleted by an admin. Typically I see references to articles which were added in during the articles existance removed if the article is deleted. Sorry. Images edit

Images from gymnast.ru are non-competitive and b/w. Due to this, in the recent time I upload them very very rarely, only when I can't find screen caps of a gymnast in question from the competition, where one competed. Hence, the current limited permission is alright for me. But if you want, you can contact the author of that website yourself - his email is still the same, available on the website. I should also try to translate your letter into Russian, if required. Cmapm 09:54, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Now that EasyPizza has appeared on BBC news 24 and SKY news as well as appearing in the Evening Standard, Daily Mail, Times, and many other publications this issue of not being in the public interest and not being notable is a non issue. Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Winhunter edit

My low editing summary statistics was partly explained by Voice-of-all's comments in the comment section, though I have to admit that sometimes I do omit editing summaries. After putting less focus on RC patrol in recent days my editing summary usage hiked from 27% -> 38% in just a couple days. Also, can you quote a few of the editing summaries that I wrote were too long? It would be extremely helpful in helping me to make it more concise in my future edits. Lastly, I was little bit lost on "Last, there's more than WP:AIV, have you seen the on images?", can you elaborate a little bit. Thanks. --WinHunter (talk) 02:00, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was on the WP:UI for quite a while until I switched my focus to RC. My image editing count was 326 in time of nomination, though that was an understatement of my taggings while I was in UI. I tagged many images with tags that eventually led to their deletion which were not shown in that number.(e.g. nolicense, nosource, ifd) --WinHunter (talk) 02:09, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I'll take note of that and work on that also if I become an admin. Originally my mind was mainly on thoe *FDs which include IFD, where there is also a backlog (in "Old discussions"), but now I am going to work on those images on Category:Administrative backlog also. Btw I would really apprecite if you quote the diff links (just a few) of the editing summaries that I wrote were no concise enough so that I can take those as my future reference. --WinHunter (talk) 02:20, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yea... those are the times I missed the editing summaries. Ever since Petros471 reminded me there is such option in my preference I don't miss editing summaries anymore. I am fully aware of these but I am especially concerned about this comment you made: "..and make them more conscise..", I want to correct this so any example about my overly long (i.e. not concise enough) editing summaries would be very helpful. --WinHunter (talk) 03:35, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'd hope not. Though if you're using a lot of firefox extensions/plug-ins it could mess things up as some of them make things buggy. I use firefox and mozilla do my submissions, and they work pretty good. Though, for the common reasons, I wouldn't recommend internet explorer if you run windows. Kevin_b_er 03:18, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think I've figured it out. If I've got an article open for editing in Firefox and I switch to another tab, the text in the edit box is truncated when I return. I'm going to do some additional experimenting to see if it's a problem with Firefox itself or one of the extensions, but I thought you might be interested. f(x)=ax2+bx+c 07:58, 11 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

202.72.148.102 edit

Like you, I saw the links added by this user, and investigated. But unlike you I came to the conclusion that they weren't spam. The sites added are "An initiative of the Government of Western Australia through the South West Development Commission". That is, they are sites set up by the state government body responsible for economic development of the South West region of Western Australia. As such, their purpose is to bring money and tourism into the region, but I do not think that this makes them "commercial" in the usual sense. I support their inclusion in the articles. Would you mind if I reverted your reverts? Snottygobble 02:53, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I no longer intent to revert your reverts, and I'm not asking you to do so either. I intend to leave it to the IP to re-add them if they want to. See my message at the bottom of this user's talk page; I have told them that they are free to add them back in, but suggested a more appropriate and informative link format. Kevin, a re. on the Maxwell querry edit

Kevin you posed the question of why the entry on Dr. Maxwell was important enough to me to fight to keep it. My work on it was both a labour of love for someone I respect, as well as a desire to cut my teeth in contributing to the wikipedia world. In the process of writing it, I referred to the wiki biography guidelines and felt he clearly met the minimum threshhold for inclusion if someone (me) was inclined to work on an entry. This begs the whole question of what or who is exactly WIKI-worthy. We went thru this whole vetting process before & by virtue of accomadating the input of the editors on asking for more documentation of his academic work, he was deemed worthy.

It is also somewhat strange having someone outside of Plastic Surgery, let alone medicine, try to marginalize and attack a figure she knows nothing about. I've tried to address Molly's requests for documenting things, but in fact she has no interest in learning anything about the worthiness or credentials of the Surgeon in the biography.

This referendem process (2 months after the last one) is characteristic of the spite of another editor which has spilled out of another content dispute. It has now come to light that she is also trying to disrupt the process which has caused some degree of angst among the wikipedia mods.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/SalineSupport/message/62510

Molly writes, "Please come vote (discuss) the deletion of an article on Wikopedia. This article was written by a plastic surgeon with whom I have been arguing about the BI article (he made it initially look like an advertisement for implants). He wrote an article about his teacher, who is no more notable than any other academic. This surgeon had been hooked up with McGhan and had been sued for implanting a woman with silicone implants after she expressly told him not to do so.It looks again like an ad for a breast implants surgeon, or did until I and antoher editor got hold of it.Now it has been (re)nominated for deletion. We need people to come 'vote' on the page below.A short reason is sufficient like, "Not more notable than other academics" etc. or "I agree with (fill in the blank)". You may need to log in but it is very easy. This is important, because websites like "Answer.com" take articles verbatim ." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Droliver (talkcontribs) 15:07, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

RFCU Ceraurus edit

It looks like Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/209.148.90.129 is a retaliatory request to the Ceraurus/Arthur Ellis request. You might want to consolidate it for Mack's review. Thatcher131 05:19, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

That laywer letter page makes my head spin, but I'm sorting through it slowly. Thanks. Kevin_b_er 05:35, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, my quick take is that Mark Bourrie = Ceraurus, who was indef blocked for abusing sockpuppets. Bourrie is a blogger with a fixation on Canadian politician Warren Kinsella and has been sued by Kinsella for libel in real life. Kinsella's lawyer thinks Bourrie has used the pseudonym Arthur Ellis. Pete Peters has also accused Arthur Ellis of using IP addresses to revert Canadian journalist Pierre Bourque (journalist).
On the flip side, Ellis has accused user:Pete Peters of actually being Pierre Bourque and of also using IP addresses (or at least editing while not logged in) to make vanity edits to his own article.
Ceraurus last contribs are (likely) too old for technical confirmation of identity with Ellis. If Peters or Ellis have been editing while not logged in, or deliberately changing IPs to avoid 3RR, it seems to be pretty obvious in both cases. (The IPs are Canadian ISPs.) There's no policy reason I know of that Ellis shouldn't edit Warren Kinsella even if he is Mark Bourrie; likewise no policy reason Pete Peters can't edit Pierre Bourque even if he is Bourque, allthough it would be discouraged and he would be expected to defer to other editors on matters of vanity etc.
Sheesh. I personally would recommend banning Ellis from Kinsella per NLT (although wp is not directly a party) and banning Peters from Bourque, but that would probably take an arbitration hearing. Thatcher131 05:57, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Chebyshev function edit

No, not really. The theta function and psi functions are different, and the theorem that there's always a prime between N and 2N has nothing to do with the prime number theorem, which is what the Chebyshev function is most typically associated with. I can't imagine that this function is used much in science or engineering -- it doesn't seem particularly useful outside of number theory. --Dantheox 07:38, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

******THESE WERE THE REPLYS I RECENTLY RECEIVED FROM PREVIOUS MODERATORS - PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK INTO THIS AND RECONSIDER. THANK YOU!!

As a expert in the history in Americana music, as per my research on ART LORIA, "Doo Wop Performer / Singer" his information was very valuable to my current book project due to his associations with various performing groups from the late 1950's & 1960's. His discography of recorded music can be found on the Broadcast Music Inc page, DJ Productions Page, Alpineusa1.com Page where there is a pictorial history of his carreer, mymusic.com page, Jive Five Soulfull Kind of Music Page, Doo Wop Society of California page, etc....but there are just tidbits. Your page had all his early history that I was really Focused on. Due to this vandalism that I truly understand, I would ask you reconsider putting his musical contributions page back on line for it is of historical significance. Thank you. DOOWOPOLDIES1

PAST COMPLAINTS / REPLYS Art Loria ARTICLE - reply I understand your frustration at the actions of 68.194.159.223 that you feel compromise the integrity of Wikipedia pages. Unfortunately, I am not a site administrator so my powers are just as limited as yours. The best I can do is place a warning on his/her talk page, which could attract the attention of an admin. (As for BeatleWill, there isn't such a username. The user who calls him/herself BeatleWill is actually the IP address above.)

Since you're dealing with an IP address (which is not static), I would suggest that you and "BeatleWill" work something out on the Art Loria talk page. You can also have a look at Wikipedia's Dispute Resolution policy; it provides other avenues you can pursue.

I hope this is helpful. ... discospinster talk 17:47, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey there I am an administrator, so I'll look into the problem today. Unfortunately, as has been indicated, the user with whom you're having trouble is contributing via an anonymous IP; the worst that can be done is for his IP to be blocked - and it's not impossible that he'd simply take another IP and come right back and keep causing trouble.

I hope that your problems will be easy to resolve. DS 12:07, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Muslim Bulgarians edit

I am old user, anyway: what you suggest is not possible because the other user had already moved the page recently, quoting a google test, which is irrelevant as the name change also signifies a completely different meaning for the article (from Muslim Bulgarians (ethnic Bulgarians who are Muslim, as opposed to f.ex. Catholic or Orthodox) to Bulgarian Muslims (a blanket term including all Muslims in the country - Turks, Bulgarians and Roma). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.91.139.111 (talkcontribs) 23:03, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

I still stand by the fact that the article should not be renamed with cut and paste. If the redirect is edited after the rename, an administrator will be required if anyone wishes to move the article backward. Re:Temple of Nod edit

Yeah, this page and the Orca one should have been listed with Proto’s original AFD, but he apparently did not see those and I had forgotten about it. Two things: First, I went ahaed and added an AFD tag to the reinstated ORCA aircraft page; since it was the core of the old GDI arieal unit page I think it apropreit to combine them both. Secondly, could you strike the how to guide comment? I have not told anyone how to do anything, the pages are just highly detailed. It would make me feel better about losing the article(s). • Thank you so very much for ammending the nomination and striking the line about the how to guide. That was a major sore point of mind during Proto’s AFD nominations, as the pages do not tell anyone how to do anything. I do admit that they are at the razor thin line that seperates a game related article and WP:NOT deleteable material; known-the-less, for you understanding in the matter I feel that you have earned this barnstar. Re:I should be more careful, shouldn't I edit

They are not actually vandalism. Constant reversions by users is considered to be edit-warring and a violation of the three revert rule on Wikipedia. --Nearly Headless Nick 12:02, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ummm. My message was supposed to be thanking you for reminding me not to brush 3RR in reverting things. Kevin_b_er 22:52, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

your comment edit

Thanks for your comment. I don't think anyone truly understand how upset I am or why. I do not like being pointed out to be made fun of for my disabilities, nor my gender, nor to be condescended to by half-wits that are a third my age and have high aspirations for virtually political purposes. To be clear, I am not referring to you. I appreciate any testing that you did on the code that was left, but I have decided upon a far easier more optimal solution. I will no longer be using my talk page at all. It doesn't serve any purpose toward the betterment of any articles, but instead serves only as troll bait or a means to avoid discussion of the content in articles on the pages rightfully set aside for those purposes. I had intended to work on citations tonight. When I calm down from the insults I will probably do that. As far as I am concerned it is nobody's business nor affair to set out to ridicule another, nor make assumptions about "half" conversations that are continued and discussed elsewhere amicably. Thanks again for your concern. Ste4k 03:47, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

about the 207.200.116.* vandal edit

I just archived my talk page, so I thought that I'd post my response here. I seriously hope that the vandal does not migrate to other IP ranges. If he does, then we're pretty much in for many headaches to come. :( --Ixfd64 08:27, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:Eddie-G edit

Thanks for letting me know. I've added my vote to the afd page. Fabricationary 23:09, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I just started the article - WP:Users are welcomed to add more information ... why kill something that might grow?
