Heavenly Mother

"Mormon children are taught that someday the name of the Heavenly Mother will be revealed, and TEENAGERS are told the reason it has not been revealed so far is in order to prevent anyone from taking her name in vain." I do apologize. I accidentally left out the word "teenagers" in the previous statement I inserted in the Heavenly Mother article. With the word "teenagers" inserted, this statement reflects what I was taught in the LDS Church. Besides being taught this in church, I was also told this by my Mormon mother. Although this is a widely held belief - we need to stick to what the official teachings of the church are in the manuals and other published documents. Quotes like this need to be cited to specific sources - then we can include them. Trödel 14:32, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Why is it wrong to point out that this is commonly taught in LDS churches? I too was taught this. That it is not found in any scripture, but is ubiquitous nonetheless, almost gives it a higher place in Mormon belief, if not doctrine. Unschool 03:13, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Keraunos, I know that you have been contributing a lot to the various colour pages, but I worry that you are trying to overly define colors. For most colour names there is no such thing as precise coordinates. It doesn't really make sense to me to say that a colour is exactly halfway between other colours, and making changes to the coordinates so that they are thusly defined seems to be retroactively defining the terms. Tellus vs. Terra

You added a statement to Terra (mythology) that technically, in correct Classical Latin, "Terra" refers to earth as an element and "Tellus" refers to the sphere on which we live.

Could you please provide a source for this? I'm not an expert in Classical Latin by any means, but from a little bit of digging it seems Ovid was unaware of this distinction. If this is a well-known bit of Latin trivia, then it might be worth noting, in which case it should be easy to come up with a reference.

The "special sort of detection system" is a standard Wikipedia special page - just go to Special:Newpages. I'm doing a thing called New Pages Patrol. There's also Special:Recentchanges which shows all changes rather than just new pages. New Page Patrollers (and Recent Changes Patrollers - RC patrollers) hang around on these pages looking for evidence of vandalism. It's a completely self-assigned thing, nobody makes anyone be an RC patroller, and it's certainly not a paid position! I'm just another Wikipedian. Tonywalton  | Talk 14:42, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm afraid I have no idea how it would be implemented per-page, but I'm certain the Wiki keeps the data somewhere. Try Special:Specialpages and Wikipedia:Statistics for a start. Original Web colours

I've not come across an original 17 colours; the HTML4 spec names 16; the ones you list with the exception of orange. Tonywalton  | Talk 17:00, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

And that seems to be the first spec for web colours. (HTML4.0 was published 18th Dec 1997). The HTML3.2 spec allows colour specification but just seems to allow a hex RGB triplet, no colour names:

If you read the X11 color names article you'll see that

It is not known who originally compiled the list. The list shows neither a continuity in selected color values nor in color names, and many color triplets have multiple names. Despite this, graphic designers and others got used to them making it practically impossible to introduce a more stringent and logical alias list.X11 color names"

Colour generating software

You ask: "What is the name of the software that Wikipedia uses to make the color box formula on the editing page display as a color box in the article?" If I understand you correctly you mean "what converts "#9926db" into purple?" And the answer is "your web browser". Colour specification like that is simply part of the HTML spec, like <b> meaning bold. As for getting software that allows you to preview a given hex triplet as a colour, that would depend on what OS you're running. I'm using a Mac so I use the bundled DigitalColor Meter to measure the values of given screen pixels and various bits of freeware such as ColorTagGen to see what a given triplet looks like as a colour. If you're running on a Mac you're welcome to have a copy of ColorTagGen (which is open source). Regards, Tonywalton  | Talk 12:34, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the Rose article. In a couple of weeks I shall be visiting my father (Pheonix) - who is Icelandic, and thus interested in all things related. He will no duobt have an opinion about the Rose issue. Rose is also my daughter's middle name, passed on from her maternal grandmother, so I will remember it. Now about Art Deco. If I asked you how tall a particular tree was would you include the roots in the measurement? Most folks (opinion) would not. Pretty much every art movement (if that is what deco is) is dependent on various precursors and that, to me, is what the Armory Show and the Futurists and Cubism are. To me, Deco clearly comes to the United States at least, after the 1925 Paris event (which the US did not participate in) so to trace it back to the Armory Show seems spurious. However I asked for an informed opinion and not just for you to agree with me, so thinks for providing one. Seven Rays

Dear Keraunos. I notice you have reverted some of the changes I made to this article, and am curious on what basis you have done this. As a long-time student of the original 24 books of Alice Bailey, I am frankly puzzled by some of the teachings you ascribe to her. Where, for example, does she mention "etheric cities"? Please cite your source. At the moment this page is not an accurate reflection of Alice Bailey's position, and I will be changing it again to reflect this.

You are correct. The "etheric cities" ("retreats") for each Master are concepts introduced by the Church Universal and Triumphant. I changed the article to reflect that. Also, the "characteristic magic" of each ray was listed by C.W. Leadbeater and not Alice A. Bailey--I moved that list to a new section. To clarify the beliefs of "Ascended Master Activities" (such as The I AM Activity, Bridge to Freedom, The Summit Lighthouse/Church Universal and Triumphant, and The Temple of The Presence): There is the concept that there are 14 Etheric Cities (see my article: Fourteen Etheric Cities of the Earth) - meaning these are located in the upper sub-planes of the physical octave. Many Retreats of Ascended Masters (see: Ascended Master Retreats and Temples) are believed to have been established (in order to serve and instruct humanity towards higher evolutionary progress and a return to a planet-wide Golden Age) in all 7 sub-planes of the physical octave - from the lowest and most dense (perceived by our outer senses) to the highest and least dense (perceived through expanded senses) - the 3 highest of which have been termed "etheric". There are still six other octaves in our solar system above the physical octave (each composed of 7 sub-planes): emotional (astral), mental (devachan), Buddhic, Atmic (Causal), Ascended Master Octave, and the Octave of the God Flames.

Guy Ballard's 1930s books, Unveiled Mysteries, The Magic Presence, and The "I AM" Discourses go into great detail explaining the nature of the Ascended Master Retreats (some being very physical and tangible in locations such as the "Cave of Symbols" in Wyoming, the Retreat in Paris of the Council of France of the Great White Brotherhood, and the ancient subterranean complex on the Arabian Peninsula. There are descriptions of traveling to a few of these in his flesh and blood physical body, and of other travels that involved the conscious projection of his etheric (memory) body and Higher Mental Body. Students in the "Ascended Master Activities" are taught to travel to the Retreats at night while their flesh bodies rest, and also to work toward developing the ability to do this in full waking consciousness.

"Ascended Master Activities" believe that with the setting aside of the occult law at the beginning of the 1930s, the previously "hidden" teachings that were only taught to Initiates in the Retreats of the Great White Brotherhood were now allowed to be taught publicly and in detail. These are concepts such as the nature of each person being God Incarnate - the "I AM" Presence Individualized - and the purpose of Life. These are the understandings about the nature of each person's Divine Consciousness and Birthright that had resulted in persecution and death in the past (and still can in the present in some repressive cultures).

And yes, the concept of Super-Human Immortals with Powers far beyond those of mortal men has existed in the religions, mythologies, and "mystery schools" of all ages. "Ascended Master Activities", however, have their own terminology and explanations for some beliefs that appear similar to other metaphysical philosophies, such as Daoism, Theosophy, Rosicrucians, and the Chaldean Magi. That Texas stamp collector's site seems to list several different color chips per color name. Is there any reason to believe it's a reliable source, esp. for the numeric values? The answer is yes, but it depends on whether the articles are redirects or have been deleted. If it's a redirect, just click the redirect to see the page history. If it's been moved/merged into a new article, there's a good chance that the page history has been merged as well. If the article was deleted, then you may need to ask an admin to pull the history for you. (see this page) If you are interested in merging different page histories, you may want to see: Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen or just contact one of the admins listed on that page if you need help. Starflight Network

You don't seem to have any citation that the "Starflight Network" ever existed. I can't find one through either a Google search or a Google Book search, and Wilson's lecture agent from 1982 through 1988 has never heard of it. Also, such info as "One of the activities of the group was setting up and manning tables to sell Dr. Timothy Leary's and Robert Anton Wilson's books at Star Trek conventions" and "Discusssions at the group centered on how to practically implement the futurist ideas of space migration, intelligence increase, and life extension (SMI²LE) that were three central concepts of Leary's philosophy" are hardly encyclopedic; the same could be said for dozens of groups. The problem is, in Wikipedia this is called "original research", as I'm sure you are aware since you have been a contributer for over a year. You need to document the existence of the organization and the fact that it was founded by Robert Anton Wilson, and preferably do so using third-party references. Also, even if it's true, the fact that they sold books by Wilson and Leary is hardly encyclopedic. It might be acceptable in an article about the Starflight Network itself, assuming its existence is notable at all. Can you find any newspaper clippings of articles mentioning the Starflight Network?

I can't find much of a connection between John Draper and Robert Anton Wilson, either, except that they were both in the film Borders. A search on John Draper and Starflight Network yields nothing. and the group only existed for 1-2 years, you say?Rosencomet (talk) 20:14, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Seven Rays

Someone eliminated the Seven rays article by redirecting it to the Ascended Master Teachings. This in effect made it disappear. I reverted the redirect, and this brought the article back. Then he put a "Merge proposal" tag at the top of the article. He also put "Merge proposal" tags at the top of a number of other articles.

I think you might want to comment on this since you spent a lot of time contributing to this and other articles listed in the "Category:Ascended Master Teachings" (such as Master Jesus and others). To merge them will essentially remove them from Wikipedia. All this has been done without discussion or consensus. Arion (talk) 00:23, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

User:Adam_Cuerden has just again deleted an entire large section of the article on Saint Germain (which you just edited).

Edit dispute on Kardashev scale

In the last month or so there's been a edit dispute on the article, about what it is, who it was meant for, where the article needs to go, whether it needs to be split. Not of lot of people work on it, so there's very few people deciding these issues. See the update at the source discussion. It has become clear now that the BF2S color guide was copied from wikipedia in late September 2006, shortly after you added rose (color) to the list of colors, and before any of your subsequent changes. White dragon flag

Just to let you know, there is no evidence whatsoever that the Anglo-Saxons used the white dragon flag to represent themselves - unsourced, nationalist websites notwithstanding. The West Saxons certainly used a dragon flag, but they are not England, just a part of it. The only ancient sources that ascribe a white dragon to the English are Welsh - the enemies of the English. The Cross of St. George is indeed post-Norman, but anyone who has seen football games when England are playing can be in no doubt that the English use it to represent themselves. ðarkuncoll 00:11, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

I tried to provide the best possible sources and references I could for the article (the article was created by someone else, but I added all the sources and references), but the other editors don't seem to be satislied with them, so I am afraid there is nothing more I can do. The article as it now stands claims that the I-Beam (nightclub) and the Straight Theater were at the same address. Though I've struggled with DSPS all my life, most of the time without knowing what it is, I've stayed away from pills-to-sleep and pills-to-wake. Am very glad I never let a dr talk me into that. Ancient Egyptian religion

Regarding your question on Talk:Ancient Egyptian religion, the Egyptians didn't call their religion anything. They didn't even have a word for "religion". Their belief system wasn't an exclusive, cohesive doctrine like modern Abrahamic religions. Its central tenets were that the gods existed in every aspect in nature, and were responsible for the behavior of all its forces and elements—a notion that seemed so obvious to them that they couldn't imagine another way of thinking. This was probably true all over the world at the time that Egyptian civilization first arose. Scientific thinking hadn't developed yet, so when people looked at a natural phenomenon whose cause they couldn't immediately see, they attributed it to the actions of a god. Different societies believed in different gods, of course, but because the different aspects of nature are virtually limitless, the Egyptians often adopted gods from neighboring peoples, seeing them as representing new phenomena, or new aspects of gods which they already worshipped. Centuries of monotheistic religion and scientific thought have made this way of thinking completely alien to us, which makes my attempts to rewrite the article that much harder. (Hinduism is still somewhat like this, which is why the discussion for that article is still arguing over whether it should be called a "religion" at all.) A. Hi Keraunos. Not sure it was that good of an idea to rename the Isabelline color article to Isabelline (animal colour). I know that is what we have for Chestnut, but it is awkward. Ethnic flag changes

There are only Sicilians and Neapolitan people that are represented with their flags. The same I could add at "Romaians" 3.The term "Teutonic" is not representing all the modern germanic nations (Scandinavian, English ect) so this description is odd.
