Merging

edit

Hi, I think it would be quite good to create a new history section in the artice Adwick School and merge your article into there. We often try to merge related school articles together. – Thjarkur (talk) 19:40, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Percy Jackson Grammar School

edit

I am trying to merge my draft article into Outwood Academy Adwick. I want to transfer the same 4 images which I included in the draft. When I try to upload the images, I am informed that they already exist, but there is no clue as to how I might transfer them. Because they exist, there seems to be a block. Suggestions please. Should I, for example, delete the images from my former draft? Kenpj (talk) 20:59, 29 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

You just need to link to the already existing file such as this by writing this for example

School frontage in 1944.

Did you intend to post this at Teahouse? Very few will see it here, but it appears someone did. If you ask for help on your talk page, adding Template:Help me will list your request so people will respond. An image on a Wikipedia article is produced by linking to the image file on Wikimedia Commons with the proper markup. John from Idegon (talk) 23:09, 29 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, Vellela and John from Idegon. Now I need how to create an external link to our web page. www.percyjacksons.co.uk . Kenpj (talk) 23:44, 29 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

No, you don't. You cannot link to Facebook. John from Idegon (talk) 01:25, 30 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
MY MISTAKE, John. I meant alumni website - not facebook. Thanks again.

How to block robot highlighting

edit

In adding a person to the article, it became automatcally highlighted to a wiki entry of a person with the same name - but not my intention. How can I block/undo an automatic blue high light? Kenpj (talk) 14:34, 11 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Kenpj. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Outwood Academy Adwick, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Rather bad form to be adding content sourced to your own book and incorrectly formatting the sources. Theroadislong (talk) 22:17, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again, Theroadislong. As you know, I am an absolute novice. I have struggled with references and must improve. I clearly state on my user page that I am retired and that I am the honorary historian of the defunct Percy Jackson Grammar School, which is the extent of my affiliation with the subject. I receive absolutely no compensation for my efforts here. I and other alumni, perhaps naively, assume that the old school is worthy of record on Wikipedia and I have tried to justify this with references. My book is soundly sourced and constitutes a valid reference to the history of the school.(See U3A News, Autumn 2007, Books, p 34). Nowhere else is there comprehensive access to the school's story - unless we secure an inclusion on Wikipedia. Is the wish to adequately record the school's history a conflict of interest? Many thanks for your attention. Kenpj (talk) 23:13, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I think , in your own words, you have hit the nail on the head - "........ unless we secure an inclusion on Wikipedia.". This is not the purpose of Wikipedia. Wikipedia aims to have encyclopaedic articles about notable subjects that are balanced. Articles about schools should probably be mostly about the present but with a reasonable acknowledgement of the past. It is not about being a repository of archive information or even providing a link to such information. Your own web-site provides that. So, to answer your question, yes, you absolutely do have a conflict of interest, you should closely follow the guidance for COI and not directly contribute to the article. Regards  Velella  Velella Talk   23:27, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

A valid reference? I have a good reference to the construction of the school reported in the journal 'Education' 25 Feb 1944, p 239. It is located in the National Archives ref ED 35 6592 036. I do not know how Wiki would like this cited. I would be grateful if you would enter it in the History section of the Outwood Academy Adwick page after the sentence ending with '£62,000'. I have a copy on file. Would appreciate help. Regards. Kenpj (talk) 17:16, 14 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

There is also a copy of a letter dated 27 May 1937 from the Board of Education (= Min of Ed), approving the naming of the school 'Percy Jackson Grammar School'. National Archives ED 35 6592 002 . I believe this is worthy of inclusion as a ref. Regards. Kenpj

  Please do not add or change content, as you did at Outwood Academy Adwick, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 18:45, 16 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

This afternoon I added in Notable Members a ref to a Wikipedia page Stan Brookes. I assumed it was self-evident. Please advise. Kenpj
Why would you think it was self evident? You included no source and the article page Stan Brookes doesn't mention it? Theroadislong (talk) 19:24, 16 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I see. How can I reference on Stan Brookes page: "He attended Percy Jackson Grammar School, 1964 entry. <Ref>: Admission Registers, Percy Jackson GS Collection, Doncaster Archives." ? Kenpj

Removal of conflict of interest template

edit

You have removed the template even though it is you that has the conflict, the article has a LOT of unsourced promotional content, ALL content requires independent sources. Theroadislong (talk) 19:59, 17 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

  Please stop adding unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did on Derrick Downing. This violates Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Theroadislong (talk) 20:09, 17 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sorry. I feel the original school admission registers in a recognised archive constitute a valid reference. Thanks. User:Kenpj Kenpj (talk) 11:02, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

But you didn't cite that source? Theroadislong (talk) 11:06, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Oops! Right. Thanks again. But I did not introduce the matter in the case of Fred Spira. Should I add a ref there? User:Kenpj. Kenpj (talk) 15:09, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
