Hello, Kelcema, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions, especially what you did for Trader Joe's. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I removed some of what you added to the Trader Joe's article because you cited sources published by Trader Joe's. The rule is to avoid using sources published by the article of the subject. See more WP:RS. I would love to see this article be improved! Let me know if I can help you with it. Blue Rasberry (talk) 18:34, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Blue Raspberry, So I want to make sure I am being a useful contributor. I've been updating the Trader Joe's page in regards to store counts and employee benefits (updating existing text and clarifying/correcting when inaccurate, not creating new sections). Being a current employee of Trader Joe's, does that mean I am "a source" -- I don't get what you mean by the article of the subject. Help? Kelcema (talk) 18:41, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia rules are often unclear and often rely on years of established precedent. One of the relevant policies is at WP:ABOUTSELF. How this rule is applied in practice is that the kind of information which goes into an infobox - such as the store count which is there and elsewhere cited to Trader Joe's - is considering to be typical factual information which no one is likely to doubt. Other information, such as policies or organization positions, are not included because of the concept of WP:NOTABILITY. Content is notable when third parties discuss it, and not when an entity publishes it about itself. As an employee, you are not a source. A source is what is cited. However, if you edit in your role as an employee, then please check the conflict of interest policy. Let me know if you have other questions. Blue Rasberry (talk) 18:57, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the information. I have to admit that I am confused as to why incorrect or outdated information cannot be updated or corrected, as that is all I have been doing. I am not making any edits as a representative of Trader Joe's, but merely as someone who has access and knowledge of the correct information. However, since apparently you are telling me that I am not a reliable source of information to be recognized as able to correct statements made on the Wikipedia page for Trader Joe's, should I cease doing so? I admit I am confused by apparent "unclear rules relying on years of established precedent," and do not want to cause any problems, so perhaps the goal(s) and intention(s) of Wikipedia are unclear to me. If in fact I should not be making changes to this page given my non-reliable status, I will undo the edits I have made in the last four months. Thank you... The goals and rules of Wikipedia are briefly explained here. There are other explanations.
No human is a reliable source, so in that sense only, you are not a reliable source. I meant nothing more than that. A reliable source is something that is cited, and Wikipedia only accepts citations of published content. Humans are not published content, not cite-able, and therefore not reliable sources. Anything you publish may be a reliable source.
If you are confused by my way of explaining there are dozens or hundreds of other people with other perspectives who would give you all the support you wanted. One place to get other opinions is from the WP:TEAHOUSE.
Please note that once you add content to Wikipedia it is freely licensed for anyone to use, so persons who add content are not at liberty to remove it if the community wants it to remain. I appreciate what you have added. Sometimes text on these talk pages can be misinterpreted, and I think that you might have felt that I did not appreciate your volunteering. That is not the case and I appreciate what you have done a lot, and would like to see the TJ's page be awesome. Should you prefer to talk to me by phone or video by Skype then email me here Special:EmailUser/Bluerasberry and I will send you my contact info, and I would answer any questions you have by voice chat.   Hello, I'm Capitalismojo. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Elliott Roosevelt because it did not appear constructive. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Capitalismojo (talk) 15:23, 12 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
