Speedy deletion nomination of Regraped edit

A tag has been placed on Regraped requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. — Hysteria18 (Talk • Contributions) 19:01, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reasons for deletion edit

The current guidelines for inclusion of musical groups at Wikipedia are at WP:MUSIC. In most cases, bands are not included unless they have released at least two albums on a major label. See the policy for details and exceptions. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 20:14, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Deleted again edit

Please don't keep creating the article without addressing the underlying concerns that I, and several other editors, have expressed. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 22:06, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Request for Help edit

Please help me to work on this, you are much faster in taking this down than I am putting it up. I feel like I addressed each "complaint" systematically and I hope that you were able to actually view the changes. For instance, I added references, links, and "noteworthiness" with respect to genre of music. After your last post, I went and read the policy and I seem to easily meet this criteria:

"Is a musician who has been a member of two or more independently notable ensembles, or an ensemble which contains two or more independently notable musicians. " AND "Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability." Keithlarson (talk) 22:13, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I will add that I am not sure exactly how to communicate with the editors, but I am hoping that his "Talk" feature is the best possible forum. If not, I plan on reposting a simplified version of the wiki entry in hopes of getting a response. Thanks Keithlarson (talk) 22:25, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I reviewed the top revision of the article before deleting it but did not review the changes side by side until now. Nonetheless, I do not believe there is anything in the article to suggest that it meets our criteria. Are there two or more band members who went on to have notable careers in music (generally, by becoming recording artists or prominent national acts)? Which ones? What makes them notable? Do we have an article on them? If not, is their notability established by other sources? Regarding the "most prominent representative" line of reasoning, can you establish that Regraped are or were the "most prominent representative of a local scene?" If so, the lede of the article should so state, and there should be references. If your basis for including the article is that they played a unique style (two bass guitars, for example), then what other acts used this style? Were Regraped innovators? Do musicological sources that document such a trend identify Regraped as its source or as prominent proponents?
The reason we're such sticklers about the band articles is that, for ephemeral groups with local audiences, the articles become maintenance problems for us because there are usually no readily available sources we can check to resolve editing disputes. And you'd be surprised how many of these articles end up in disputes over: who was the leader, whose idea was the band, who carried on the identity of the band after the breakup, what was the truth of the matter involving the drummer and the guitarist's girlfriend, etc etc etc.
If you do not have a copy of the article and would like one so that you can work on it, say so and I will email it to you or post it on your user page, as you wish.
If you disagree with my deletion of the article, you can try your luck over at deletion review.
Regarding communication, you may leave a note here, or a note at my User talk:UninvitedCompany talk page, if you have questions or need help.

Hello again, thanks for the time to explain. Let me first say that I completely understand if this doesn't seem to fit with Wiki criteria; I am asked so often about this band and this time period that it seems to me Wiki would be a much better place for this new-found interest to draw from. That said, maybe this has a place here...maybe it does not. This group was one of these "starter groups" back in the early mis-named "Chapel-Hill Scene". They were an important catalyst of the place and time-period. To answer your specific question: YES....many of the people mentioned associated with the article (probably most notably Urge Overkill, Polvo, or Ryan Adams more than meet the aforementioned criteria.

I suppose most important (at least in my opinion) to the credibility of the article is that there is no potential capitilization of the past...none of these guys really care to, nor could ever agree to. This isn't about promotion as it is about the history of creative movement.

Now that I re-read my post...I think there is some irrelevent stuff, which clearly reflects my own sort of absurd recolection of what this band was...and less about how important is was to that scene. Ego aside, I still think it deserves an entry for others to connect the dots and legacy of music North Carolina. Can't I submit an alternate, more efficient version? Yours...
