Potential Article Ideas

- One topic I'm curious about is the role of romantic relationships in adolescence -- The structure & function that they may (or may not) have in adolescent development? Within the main Wiki page on adolescence (here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolescence) There's a sub-section, "romance and sexual activity" -- It's pretty detailed on the main points of this topic, but I'm wondering if there is anything to add or some related phenomenon that is deserving of it's own page. In addition, I'm not necessarily considering adolescent sexuality (There's a very detailed page on that, here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolescent_sexuality), but maybe more about the socioemotional aspect of adolescent relationships.

- Another idea -- The PYD Wiki page is somewhat brief (here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_youth_development) -- it gives a general description of PYD and its practices. Maybe to branch off of PYD I could consider creating or adding to a page of some real-life program/organization that supports the PYD model.

- Additionally, This is something I thought about that was briefly mentioned in my Qualitative Analysis class and somewhat related to programs -- about the role of settings? Very sparse idea and cannot think of the name my professor linked to the topic. However, the idea of how settings effect their members and vice versa (ex. after school programs)

- This idea is broad as of now -- adolescents and stress. There's not a sub-section dedicated to it on the main Adolescent wiki page.

- Ethnic Identity -- More specifically, the processes and trajectories of African-American girls? There's a main Ethnic Identity development page (here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_identity_development), but I don't know that this would be the appropriate location to go into to detail about a specific ethnic identity. There's a small section (here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Americans#Identity), but still doesn't seem fitting to add here either.

Joanna's reply to potential article ideas edit

I'll start with your PYD idea because Theresa also mentioned that page. What I suggested to her was that the page is in good shape, but I could see somone developing new sections on something like "Theoretical Models of PYD", and discussing the 40 assets model, 5 C's model, etc. Another section might be "research on PYD", or something along those lines. So it might be worth chatting with her to see if the two of you want to tackle this together.

I think some new subtopic on adolescent romantic relationships and/or sexuality is worth considering. I've suggested to a few other people that one strategy might be to add sections that describe existing theoretical models in a topic area along with relevant research findings. Whether or not this becomes a new section on an existing page or its own page would depend in-part on the topic.

The ethnic identity development page seems to be in decent shape (Sean mentioned an interest in this topic, too), but you may be onto something when thinking about other groups and/or models. For instance, there are separate models for "racial identity", many of which have been developed for Black/African Americans, that are different from "ethnic identity" models. Two that come to mind are Robert Sellers' Multidimensional Model of Racial Identity (MMRI) and William Cross' "Nigrescence" or "Black Racial Identity" model (Janet Helms also has a similar model). There's a very short description of Cross' model on a page called "two-spirit identity" (see section 2.1.2 on Black racial identity theory), but otherwise I don't see much on models of Black racial identity development. Rather than thinking about this just for girls, you might want to take on the challenge of starting a new page for Black racial identity models (which could have a sub-section on gender). I'm happy to discuss this further if it's of interest! -Joanna Jml4bw (talk) 16:38, 25 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Joanna's feedback on Sandbox article edit

Wow, Kelly- very comprehensive review so far of the PYD models. I like the structure you selected. At this point, my suggestion would be to add some additional information about research on the 40 assets model. I'm sure you can find more on the Search Institute website. I'll be assigning a peer to review your post (possibly Theresa, but I'll let you know for sure). I'll also help with final editing over the course of the next week. -Joanna Jml4bw (talk) 13:30, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
