Seasons greetings

No! Thank you, Keahapana, for your edits on "Monkeys in Chinese Culture"! I'm reading Jeannie Thomas Parker's Mythic Chinese Unicorn. Thank you for the suggestion! So far, I have particularly noted her Robert Graves reference (indeed, one of the main reasons for my interest in Chinese mythology). My reading has been somewhat slowed by my confusion about mammalian taxonomy, to which end I've started sorting my notes out at "List of Chinese terrestrial ungulates". Cheers! Hello again, Dcattell. Yes, a friend in Japan sent me a PDF of the new translation for the Bencao gangmu 51, which I've been adding into WP. Your list of ungulates looks great! Keep up the good work. Best wishes for the bovid Year of the Goat/Sheep/Ram. Keahapana (talk) 03:06, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

You've been busy!

Hi, just got your message, haven't yet looked at new articles. But, looking forward to it! Haven't done much on Wikipedia for last week (reading Li Bo, but not finding anything much in his poems directly inspiring toward encyclopedia articles). Just logged in since Wikimedia Foundation provided me a JSTOR account, which might ease research somewhat for me. Really, I'm still digesting the Cold food powder article and stepping through the Yubu article (for example, wondering about the Daoist dance steps in relation to the architectural layout of old Chang'an, which is also claimed to be based on the Big Dipper pattern?). Anyway, will be reading! Dcattell (talk) 22:29, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, there's no rush (Wikipedia time). Yes, JSTOR is wonderful. That's interesting about Chang'an. I'm currently working on another weirdly fun topic Traditional Chinese medicines derived from the human body. Best wishes, Keahapana (talk) 03:08, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

DRN

@Keahapana: They discussion has moved to the 'Dispute resolution noticeboard'. I think he just criticized the source because he thought I was the one citing it directly, he's not really following the discussion very well. I have also never heard of Sino-Platonic being biased and I've seen some pretty respected scholars write there as well. If you want to continue to follow the discussion, most of it will probably be going on here. Thanks!

Hi Easy772, and thanks for the link to this very contentious discussion. Good luck, Keahapana (talk) 23:55, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
Haven't seen you for a while– are you all right? Evangeline (talk) 02:17, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Yes, thanks, I'm OK, and have been working on a new article about ganying. How was the Shang dispute settled? Keahapana (talk) 23:52, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Oops, haven't been following it! Looking forward to ganying. Evangeline (talk) 04:55, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. History of Taoism

Based off the attached review, I intend to heavily revise your comments re: Le Guin's Daodejing in the History of Taoism article, given that Dr. Herman, the source you claim holds Le Guin's rendition in derision, wrote a largely favorable review of her work calling it surprisingly scholastically responsible. Please let me know if you have any objections to such revision.

So here are my eventual changes:

1. Removed a dead link on Komjathy's website.
2. Quoted Dr. Herman's actual review of Le Guin's Daodejing; by the way, are you aware that Le Guin was a contributor to the volume in which you claim Herman bashes her?
3. Removed the Komjathy quote suggesting that Western 'Taoists' should pronounce it with a hard 't' to reflect their cultural illiteracy; such a jab adds nothing to the article.
4. Attributed sweeping claims about "popular western Taoists" as cultural appropriators to Komjathy, instead of stating them as truth and linking to his website as support.

Thanks for informing me of your intended changes, you're much more considerate than the average WP editor. I'll respond on the Talk:History of Taoism page and we can make appropriate changes. After wondering if I was being too critical of Le Guin's "rendition", I started rereading it and realized how many of the mistranslation groaners are laugh-out-loud funny, even more than the The Tao of Weed. Thanks again, Keahapana (talk) 02:55, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
