March 2017 edit

  Hello, I'm IronGargoyle. I noticed that in this edit to The Book of Henry, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. IronGargoyle (talk) 19:46, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

  Hello, Kcarag. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article The Book of Henry, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. IronGargoyle (talk) 19:57, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

  Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that you removed some content from The Book of Henry without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Dan Koehl (talk) 20:29, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dan Koehl, I did put an explanation. I cited the film's IMDB page which has the accurate synopsis of the film. I work at Focus Features and if I'm understanding correctly, I can link to an independent site without it being a conflict of interest. Right? Kcarag (talk) 20:32, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

  Hello, Kcarag. Please stop Edit warring, or you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. The Plot synopsis shown for The Book of Henry is compiled from various published sources. IMDB is not a reliable source. It doesn't matter that Focus Features wants to limit information about this film's plot. Wikipedia can report what other sources have disclosed about it. Wikipedia discloses spoilers, for instance. See WP:SPOILER. If you believe that anything in the plot summary is not correct, please use the film article's Talk page to state what facts are in error and give a source that supports your assertion. Because of you conflict of interest, it is better if you did not edit any film articles related to Focus Features, but instead use the Talk pages for those articles, to suggest changes and corrections, citing published sources (other than IMDB or Focus Features publications). Obviously, once the film is released, the plot summary will be expanded based on the actual events of the film. -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:47, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ssilvers - saw your note and I'm hoping you can provide me with some more clarity in how we can update our film's pages when the synopsis that's being included are not accurate nor the sources that are being cited. If IMDB does not count as a credible source, how is something like 2paragraphs.com (the source credited for the Book of Henry synopsis) reliable? I'm not trying to be difficult; just want to understand the process.Kcarag (talk) 20:54, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hello, Kcarag. Please do not post on my Talk page. Instead, post on the film article's Talk page. You should not update the film article yourself, because of your WP:COI. Instead, you should post to the film article's Talk page. There, you should (i) Note that you work for Focus Features; (ii) lay out the specific facts stated that you disagree with; and (iii) cite independent, reliable sources. The reason that 2paragraphs.com is an acceptable source is because it is a media source that is edited by an editorial board independent of the producers of the subject film. See this. Two other independent sources are also cited. See also WP:RS. -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:11, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
