Hi CarTick, Thanks for your encouragement. I am a frequent user of Wikipedia since 2003, but this is this the first time that I am seriously contributing in an article. Please correct me if I am doing anything wrong. Thanks again. Kathamarai (talk) 20:37, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

CarTick, I would like to change the flag of AIADMK to its original form of showing ANNA in the middle. So I was trying to find within Wikipedia and I found one as well (made by Wiki San Roze) as showing ANNA in the middle. But when I was trying to insert in the page the size was not matching with the DMK flag. So I made new flags for both parties matching with sizes by myself by editing the AIADMK’s flag made by Wiki San Roze (I hope it doesn’t violate any rules, please let me know about that as well). Now I want to upload both of them both to Wikipedia, Please help me with that, because I don’t know to upload the images here at all.

Hi Kathamari. thanks for your message. i was once involved in a conversation with a group of editors that revolved around the copyright status of Indian election symbols. The conversation was quite heated and ended with no clearcut conclusion. i said to myself that i will not get involved in anything related to indian election symbols unless some clear guidelines will be drafted and adopted by the wider community. sorry about that. --CarTick (talk) 21:31, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
if you want to upload images in general, please use the "upload file" link on the left side of your screen. but, please remeber wikipedia takes copyright issues very seriously. In simple words, you own copyright to images only taken by you. this also means that one can not take an image of another picture from a book and claim copyright. i have seen people blocked indefinitely for persistently violating the copyright policy. --CarTick (talk) 21:39, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hi Kathamarai, Nice to meet someone knowledgeable about Tamil politics :-). Regarding modifying the admk flag issue, a little background on what CarTick says - there is quite a bit of confusion about who has copyright over what in relation to indian election symbols, party flags and general "sinnams". Wikipedia operates under american copyright law and our own election commission says something else - its all a bit confused here right now. At present i believe we can use the ADMK flag under a fair use rationale (another complex concept under us law). For uploading the files use the "upload file" in the left panel (see - Wikipedia:Uploading images). After uploading let me know and i will help with creating the fair use rationale/copyright stuff.--Sodabottle (talk) 22:13, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Problems with upload of File:DMK Flag.svg edit

Thanks for uploading File:DMK Flag.svg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

constituency table edit

well, there is more than one way to do things and i am not going to fight it. could you please provide wikilinks to all constituencies? --CarTick (talk) 15:23, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sure CarTick. I am working on it. Thanks for your understanding and support. Please let me know if there is any mistake. -(Ka.Thamarai 15:33, 16 March 2011 (UTC))
i dont know if we understand each other. i notice you removed wikilinks from constituencies. why is that? --CarTick (talk) 16:31, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
thamarai. i meant internal links. for example, Gummidipundi should be linked to Gummidipundi. --CarTick (talk) 16:42, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
CarTick, sorry I didn't see that coming. I will correct it. Thanks. -(Ka.Thamarai 16:51, 16 March 2011 (UTC))
you can find the link to all constituencies here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:State_Constituencies_of_Tamil_Nadu. --CarTick (talk) 17:18, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kathamarai , i added the details of those standing in election , any reason why removeed ? --Rajkumarth (talk) 17:18, 18 March 2011 (UTC
Rajkumarth, the candidates from the DMK+/ AIADMK+ and their consecutive votes would be anyhow mostly repeated in the winner and runner-up columns. So it was decided to be removed to avoid any replication of the details again and again in the same table.--Ka.Thamarai 16:00, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

results edit

you agreed including Independents is not a good idea. why would you keep adding them then? --CarTick (talk) 16:52, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

CarTick, I am doing the candidates lists district wise. First I am making two lists for each district as one with complete candidates and another with excluding only the independents. And I am now entering the list without independent candidates as we decided. And I am having the complete list also. This might help us if in any case we need it in the future. Have a look now.
kathamarai (talkcontribs) 17:56, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
looks good. i dont understand what you mean by two lists. but please dont waste your time with these independents. i do appreciate your interest and work, please dont be discouraged. --CarTick (talk) 17:59, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

source edit

hi can u let me know the source from where u are taking the candidate details .. i will help if i know that ..is it Election commision site ? --Rajkumarth (talk) 1984!#$ 03:51, 9 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Rajkumarth, that would be a really big help. Yes, I collect the details from the CEO site. You can find the details district wise from the reference link of the article page. Please start from the bottom in that district list to avoid we both working on a same district. Thanks again.
kathamarai (talkcontribs) 15:33, 9 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
if you guys want to avod conflict, decide the destricts you want to do and then do it in your own user space, for example, User:Kathamarai/election and User:Rajkumarth/election and then transfer to the main page. --CarTick (talk) 15:41, 9 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Rajkumarth, I think it would be better if I do it alone completely since I am in a flow. But I would still require your help for reviewing the details in the list with CEO site details and correct it accordingly. Tell me what you think. Thanks.

Auto-numbering in contents box edit

{{help me}}

Please help me to disable auto-numbering in contents box for a particular article.

kathamarai (talkcontribs) 06:41, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean section numbering in general, or a specific article, and if so, which? Section numbering is a user-preference, auto-number headings, which can be changed in the appearance section of your preferences. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 07:09, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

It would be easy for you to understand if you have a look at this link,

For example if you see the main headings, it appears without numbers but the same thing in the contents box on the right side appears with auto-numbers which I don’t want for this particular article. The same applies to the sub-heading as well.

Basically what I want is, the contents box should only show the exact headings and sub-heading I mention in the body with links but without auto-numbers.

kathamarai (talkcontribs) 07:30, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

You can remove the manual numbers within the sub-section headings, e.g. by changing
=== [[Gummidipundi (State Assembly Constituency)|1. Gummidipundi]] ===
to
=== [[Gummidipundi (State Assembly Constituency)|Gummidipundi]] ===
but I don't think there's any way at present of disabling the auto-numbering for a specific article if you've got it enabled by default. The default is disabled, so the casual user won't see the problem. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 09:39, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

You could apply for an unblock at m:Steward requests/Global#Request for global (un)block, but I think it is very unlikely such a request would be accepted. I have given you IP block exemption, which I hope will achieve the same purpose. However, I don't know whether or not an English WP IP block exemption is capable of overriding a global block.
