Orphaned non-free media (Image:Logo-of-affiliation-quebec-canadian-political party.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo-of-affiliation-quebec-canadian-political party.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:43, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

New! BCAD drive from Milhist

Can I invite you to particpate in our new assessment drive? It's strictly for experienced wiki-gnomes and has a degree of friendly competition built-in. It involves re-evaluating around 3500 Milhist B-Class articles to ensure they match our new criteria. As ever, we're offering a range of awards as our way of expressing our thanks. The drive doesn't start until 18:00 (UTC) on March 10 but you can sign up in advance here. It would be great if you can spare the time, --ROGER DAVIES talk 05:33, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Interested in adminship?

Hi Kateshortforbob,

I've been looking through your contributions, and given your extensive work at the help and reference desks, not to mention your solid contributions to the image namespace and speedy deletion patrol, I was wondering if you're interested in being nominated for adminship? From what I saw, you're a perfect candidate, and I think you'd do wonders for the project if you had the tools--frankly, I was a little surprised not to find any offers in your talk archives!

If you're interested, just let me know and I'd be more than happy to nominate you. If you have someone else who you'd like to write a nomination, that'd be no problem as well. Thanks! --jonny-mt 07:59, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

First of all, I have to apologise for not replying more quickly - I was away from home (and Internet!) for most of this week.
Thank you very much for your kind offer to nominate me; it's good to know that at least one person thinks I'm doing okay at this Wikipedia thing! Unfortunately, due to family concerns and a new job, my WP editing habits have been severely curtailed in the last few months, and I suspect, having read a few recent requests for adminship, that this might be a matter of concern to some WP:RFA participants. I hope to increase my editing time now that things have settled down a little, and maybe move towards RFA in a few months when I know I'll have the time required to devote myself to it - I hope I'll be able to maintain your confidence in me through my actions in the meantime!
Again, thank you so much for the offer - it really means a great deal to me. If there's ever anything I can help you with, just let me know, --Kateshortforbob 21:49, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
No worries--I completely understand, and I don't imagine anyone would blame you for prioritizing your real life over your wiki-work. Focus on your family and work, contribute when you can, and I'll swing back this way in a couple of months (provided someone doesn't beat me to it, of course). Good luck! --jonny-mt 02:46, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

IMAGINiT page

Hey Kate / Bob,

This is Chris Tsangarides, and I was the one that created the IMAGINiT page... which was marked for deletion.

I work for IMAGINiT, and wanted to create a page in order to preserve the name on Wikipedia and add content going forward. So, as a shortcut [perhaps that was my faux pas], I placed some text from our web page on the Wiki article; hence the speedy delete notice.

Oh well, I'm just learning the ropes here.

How you suggest I go about creating an article on IMAGINiT and introduce non-published data about it?

Any suggestions are welcome. In the meantime, I'm going to add some generic text about the company and go from there.

Thanks in advance, --Chris Tsangarides —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chris Tsangarides (talkcontribs) 13:16, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Replied on your talk page. --Kateshortforbob 20:56, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for answering my question "upload mistake"!! -ZooFari

Little context in Category:Scribe songs

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Scribe songs, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Scribe songs is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Scribe songs, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. CSBot and stuff

Hey there. Thanks for the hard work at WP:SCV!

To answer your question: User:CorenSearchBot/exclude.  :-) But it's normal that you couldn't have guessed, it's not a documented feature.

One thing I'm worried about regarding your work with copyvios: you do realize that CSBot doesn't (and indeed cannot) see page moves unless they are copy-and-paste? And those moves are always erroneous because they loose the edit history - needing an admin to fix by reverting, moving the page, then merge the histories. I saw you remove reports as false positives because they were "page moves" and I wanted to make sure you were aware of that problem (and the reason why CSBot reports in-wiki copies). — Coren (talk) 23:30, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Ah, case in point and a recent example (I'm going to wait on fixing until you get to see what the problem is):
  • At this point [1], the page Three Stars has been edited by a number of editors
  • Schmloof transforms it into a disambiguation page [2], overwriting the previous version (instead of moving it out of the way); then
  • He pastes the previous contents of Three Stars onto a new page, Three Stars (song) which doesn't have the correct history [3].
See how the history Three Stars (song) no longer represents the actual contributors to the article? That's a big GFDL no-no, and a copyright violation. Those cases need to be brought to the attention of an admin to fix. — Coren (talk) 23:40, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

As an aside, I've noticed how extraordinarily unobvious this is to someone who doesn't know to watch out for this, and I've tweaked the WP:SCV instructions accordingly. — Coren (talk) 23:55, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
