File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Kenya Vice-Presidents.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Kenya Vice-Presidents.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 11:48, 2 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

RM POV Wording edit

I will have to ask you to maintain neutral wording when editing wikipedia articles; more specifically the George Saitoti one. Wikipedia articles need to portray a universal view of the topic and thus the need for objectivity.Thuralt (talk) 17:15, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

But, being positive ... edit

Hi, Karanja.moses. You've done a lot for the George Saitoti article and you seem to have been the first person on the Web to be able to state his date of birth. There's a discussion on the Reliable Sources noticeboard right now because this information was afterwards given in the broadcast obituary by KTN (see this link. What would be nice to know is, where did you get the information? If you had a reliable source for it, published or on the Web, that would be very good, and we could re-insert the exact date and add a reference to your source. In any case, feel free to join that discussion at WP:RSN#George Saitoti. Andrew Dalby 11:26, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

1944/1945 edit

Can you please clarify why you changed Saitoti's year of birth from 1945 to 1944? As far as I can tell, all sources agree on 1945. Was this just an accident, or do you have another source that says 1944? Please reply on the Saitoti talk page. Thanks. -- Despayre  tête-à-tête 18:44, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:LenkuEdited.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:LenkuEdited.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:33, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Lake Victoria edit

I have reverted your edits at Lake Victoria. Our convention at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names) directs us to use a "widely accepted English name," if it exists, for an article title. The name of the article should appear prominently in the first sentence of the lead, if possible. "Lake Victoria" is the name by which almost all English speakers will be looking for the article about that body of water, and that is the name that should appear at the beginning of the first sentence in the article. - Donald Albury 17:50, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Donald Albury: While I see the sense of keeping 'Lake Victoria' as the "widely accepted English Name", I also wonder from whose perspective this acceptability is understood? Lake Victoria / Victoria Nyanza is a 160 year old name for the English people. Nam Lolwe has been used for hundreds of years by the locals in the Kenyan side. Should we make a Luo Wikipedia entry to resolve this issue? Kindly advise. Karanja.moses (talk) 18:52, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Articles in the English Wikipedia must be in English. It does not look like there is a Luo Wikipedia. There is an attempt to start a Luo Wikipedia at the Wikimedia Incubator. If you are interested in helping to start a Luo Wikipedia, I'm sure they would appreciate the help. - Donald Albury 19:12, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
