Image copyright problem with Image:Fede.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fede.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

License tagging for Image:Leontiou.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Leontiou.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Alexander the Great(song) vandalism

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - not a forum to express your opinions on the R. Macedonia naming dispute issue. All articles must be NPOV! Please stop polluting Alexander the Great (song) with your own opinion as not only is it POV it's also irrelevant to the song - your edits have already been reverted twice!

Pauderic 21:29, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

OK I was too aggresive in regard to this and for that I apologize, but the point still stands. Wikipedia IS an encyclopedia, and while you are encouraged to express your own personal opinions all articles MUST reflect international scientific consensus. And let's be honest, neither side has anything near a consensus on the issue, so Wikipedia articles can not be one-sided. "which is correct if we see with a closer look the ancient history." is not only grammatically incorrect, but also clearly biased. For more information regarding Wikipedia's official policy please check Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view.

Εν πάσει περιπτώσει, να το διαγράψουμε δεν μπορούμε, άρα, "if you can't beat them, join them." Προσπάθησε να δείξεις κι εσύ την άλλη πλευρά... •NikoSilver 13:22, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Diarra.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Warning against tag removal

KaragouniS, removal of deletion tags is considered a serious offence, of the same kind of vandalism.

If you not agree with the replaceability of the images, you use the proper tag, adding it, and not replacing the current tag as you did.

Do not remove the tags anymore. --Panarjedde 15:13, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

fair use images

I have unfortunately had to removed some logos from your user page, as they fail the fair use rules for inclusion as no fair use image is allowed in userspace (see policy note 9 on WP:FC). I have also deleted the images Antiosfp.png and Antibarca.png, both of which are tagged wrong (putting an X over a copyrighted image does not entitle you to licence it under GFDL), do not provide fair use rationale, and cannot ever be claimed to be fair use anyway (they can't be used on userspace and no article can be improved by them).  OzLawyer / talk  15:51, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Again

Pardon me, but did you read WP:FU? It states quite clearly in point 9 that "Fair use images may be used only in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are not covered under the fair use doctrine. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages." I am again removing the logos from your userpage. This is not unique to you—logos are regularly removed from userpages (people create all sorts of sport-related userboxes that do not qualify for fair use). If you continue to add these images, you may find yourself in hot water.  OzLawyer / talk  17:09, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:1938-apollon-team.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1938-apollon-team.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

Specifically, you claimed that it was in the public domain due to having been published before 1923; however, the photo was manifestly taken in 1938. I removed the PD tag. Please investigate the source of the image and correct the license or fair use justification as discussed below.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MCB 08:00, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Warning regarding Image:1938-apollon-team.jpg

You have again inserted the incorrect {{PD-old-50}} tag for this image after having twice been told it is not appropriate. That tag is for images that are in the public domain because they were made before 1923. This photograph is of the 1938 team and therefore cannot have been made before 1923. You have cited a web page as the source of the image; however the web page has no information that would indicate that it is in the public domain or under a free license that is acceptable to Wikipedia. You must provide evidence that the image is available for use in Wikipedia or it will be deleted. Do not re-insert the {{PD-old-50}} tag. In addition, incivility and legal threats against other editors, such as you made here are not acceptable and will lead to your being blocked from editing Wikipedia, as will continued misuse of copyright/license tags. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia but civility and complying with Wikipedia copyright policy are very important. Thank you for your attention to this. --MCB 17:51, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Civility

It would be much appreciated if you wouldn't refer to other Wikipedians as malakas, as it is a violation of WP:CIVIL. Thanks.  OzLawyer / talk  18:39, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Pardon me, KaragouniS, but calling me "stupid" is as much a violation of WP:CIVIL as "jerk". Or do you not get that we like to be kind to each other around here? Further incivility may result in you being blocked from editing Wikipedia. Please try to be kind.  OzLawyer / talk  19:37, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
No, Wikipedia is certainly not a democracy. Your re-worded insult is still an insult, and I shall remove it again.  OzLawyer / talk  19:43, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
What would be okay would be for you to remove the comment altogether. I have not intended to harass you or force you to do anything that isn't policy on Wikipedia. I explained to you why logos aren't allowed in userspace, I showed you the link to the policy which explains it, and I told you that this is not an action specific to you, but is in fact something that has to be, and is, enforced across Wikipedia. It's not my decision, it's the decision of Wikipedia as a whole, and is, in fact, the law.  OzLawyer / talk  19:50, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi KaragouniS, thanks for removing that insult - but adding that other thing about your contempt for copyright ([1]) doesn't help much either. I'll be blunt: the next time we see you violating copyright in whatever matter here on Wikipedia, will get you an indefinite block with no further warnings. Because after what you just said, I must assume you do it fully intentionally in wilful defiance of Wikipedia policies. Which will not be tolerated. Fut.Perf. 22:45, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:1938-apollon-team.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1938-apollon-team.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Panarjedde 12:14, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

KaragouniS, I do not think your image fails the first fair use criterion, as noted above, since it is a historical image and a new one cannot be magically taken of a 1938 team. However, it may not fulfill criteria 8 as it is currently used. If, however, the 1938 Light Brigade is notable enough for its own section, and I think that with everything--being the first year it gained its nickname, the display of the swastika for what I assume was the last year (unless it was partially displayed in 1939, but then it would still be the last full year with the swastika) then it probably, if moved into that section, will qualify.  OzLawyer / talk  13:44, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
It should be good now. Would you edit the article Apollon Smyrnis so that it shows what position the team had in Gamma Ethniki last year (in the infobox)?  OzLawyer / talk  14:33, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Panarjedde 15:52, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Georgiadis.jpg.

Copyright permission

If what you said on Panarjedde's page is true, please read WP:COPYREQ and do what it suggests and you will have no problem whatsoever.  OzLawyer / talk  16:42, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, but make sure everything is asked correctly--you have to make sure they know what images you're asking to use, and they must understand they they will be used outside of Wikipedia, since Wikipedia's licence allows others to use content, and that it cannot be a "non-commercial use only" agreement, since those others may make money off of the use.  OzLawyer / talk  17:02, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Basically, you should use wording similar to the sample letter at WP:COPYREQ#Typical_request_letter_for_confirmation (in fact, you could use that exact wording).  OzLawyer / talk  17:05, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
