watchlist edit

I don't know if you know about all the features of wikipedia which you can use to your advantage, but at the top of the screen by the tabs there is "my watchlist" and when you are on certain pages if you click the "watch" tab, "my watchlist" will keep a record of the changes made to any of the pages you have interest in and are watching. Orphaned fair use image (Image:7424-family-crest-German 002.gif) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:7424-family-crest-German 002.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fair use rationale for Image:Father of all bombs.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Father of all bombs.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Non-free use disputed for Image:Father of all bombs.jpg edit

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Father of all bombs.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — PhilHibbs | talk 09:14, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Father_of_all_bombs.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Father_of_all_bombs.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

FIXED Image:Father_of_all_bombs.jpg edit

To everyone with issues regarding this image, I've downgraded the screen cap resolution to 300x240 and added the fair use template with enough purpose and commentary to satisfy even the greatest critic. Not that this point matters any more since I've conformed the image to the Wikipedia terms, but this image is non-replaceable at the end of the day, so nixing it from Wikipedia is a loss for future scholars and readers. Please keep that in mind. -- Kaplansa 15:08, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, you haven't. (Satisfied the greatest critic, I mean :-) I still disagree. The rationale on both is somewhat bogus; of course taking a screenshot and publishing it here limits Russian Channel One's ability to sell the image. (Who will buy it from them if they could get it for free here?) Furthermore, on Image:Father of all bombs.jpg, it claims the bomb was destroyed, but the image shows a computer-generated drawing of the bomb, not the real thing. Hence that argument won't wash. The size argument also doesn't hold, neither of the two images give any size indications.
You also should not "review" fair-use images you've uploaded yourself.[1] That's very bad style.
Both images are used solely to illustrate the article. They should be deleted. Lupo 22:20, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
It allows for visual identification of the item in question. This is completely within fair use guidelines (see Seinfeld character images). Additionally, the image has been rescaled such that it doesn't impede Channel One's ability for resale. This resolution (300x240) is within Wikipedia and Fair Use guidelines for non-free images. See the Wikipedia rules on "Non-free content". Cheers. Kaplansa 17:14, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Buffalo trace residence.jpg edit

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Buffalo trace residence.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 05:40, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Whoops. I took this picture. Somehow neglected to add the PD-self tag. All fixed. Kaplansa 05:45, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello edit

Hello Kaplansa :) Glad to see that you joined WikiProject Bluegrass Region. I noticed that you uploaded images related to Kentucky distilleries and I added a category to them so that they are easier to find.

Also, I copied several of them to Commons as you can see here. Letting you know so that you will not upload them to Commons yourself and we have duplicates of them there. In the future you might want to consider uploading them to Commons instead of Wikipedia, if you do not want to upload them twice, since they are available for use on Wikipedia from there. The benefit is that other Wikimedia projects have access to them as well if they are located in Commons.

Again, welcome to WikiProject Bluegrass Region. Let me know if I can help in any way. FloNight♥♥♥ 12:19, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pappy Van Winkle edit

A tag has been placed on Pappy Van Winkle, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 21:09, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Relax. I'm still adding content. This'll be a legit article when I'm done. It references an interesting piece of notable American history. Kaplansa 21:49, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
And the article has done quite well. We miss you! 7&6=thirteen () 23:40, 30 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Buffalo Trace Distillery edit

It's nice to see someone else interrested in this distillery. Do you live in the area? I've started working on a history of the distilling site in my userspace. Most of the info is from the Buffalo Trace website. Feel free to add to it and edit it, I have a bit more to add myself. When it looks good I'll add it to the main article all at once. In the near future I'd like to make biographies of some of the key people in the Buffalo Trace history, George T Stagg, Edmund H. Taylor, maybe Blanton. Also, I moved the existing Sazerac article to Sazerac (cocktail) a month ago in anticipation of making a Sazerac (company) article in the future. Keep up the good work.Beakerboy (talk) 16:56, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I used to work in Frankfort, KY. My office was basically a trailer in the Buffalo Trace parking lot! Needless to say, I've been to quite a few Buffalo Trace tastings :) It's me in the Bourbon whiskey barrels pic - that's at Buffalo Trace. I'll check out your site. Bios are a great idea in fact. I also wrote the one for Pappy Van Winkle so you can link all these together I suppose. Cheers! Kaplansa (talk) 17:03, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Buffalo Trace product table. edit

I like the product table. I was thinking of doing something similar in the list of whiskey brands. My only concern in this article is that the list is longer than the article itself. What do you think about just mentioning the parent brands and then list the specific releases with those articles. For example, list Ancient Age, W.L.Weller, etc and then listing Ancient Ancient Age within the Ancient Age article. We could use the organizational structure at greatbourbon.com as a guide. This will first off, reduce the length of the list, making the article more pleasing to the eye and also lessen the amount of duplication of information.

Take Care,

Beakerboy (talk) 12:56, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Generally I'd agree with you except that the list is about as big now as it's ever gonna get and I'm afraid that linking to sub-pages with two or three bourbons each would be click-hell for most users. However, if there were actually enough content to support an actual article for each brand as you're suggesting then sure, I'm all for it. For the time being, my suggestion would be to leave the list in one place until the article itself gets unruly (like having a chapter within the parent Buffalo Trace Distillery for each brand - that would get insane after a couple of chapters). See what I'm saying? Kaplansa (talk) 19:57, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I see what you did for George T. Stagg and William Larue Weller. Sure, for these I can see the duplication of effort. If you want to clean up the Buffalo Trace Distillery brands list for these, I don't have a problem with that. Perhaps leave a note in the master table that all the varieties listed in that brand's article and then use the same table template for familiarity sake to denote the different brands. Cheers. Photos edit

I enjoyed looking at your photos of Frankfort, and used one in the Selected pictures section of Portal:Kentucky. Do you still live near Frankfort? If so, could I be so bold as to ask you to take pictures of the monuments at http://www.trailsrus.com/monuments/reg4/frankfort.html, both within Frankfort cemeteries? I have a standing offer of starting Kentucky-related articles for anyone who takes pictures I request within the state of Kentucky, so I would extend the offer to you. I hope the fact that image nazis deleted some of your pics before doesn't keep you from Wikipedia; trust me, they drive me nuts as well.--Bedford 03:23, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I used to work in Frankfort, actually, and never officially lived there - although it seemed like it from time to time. I do have several pictures you might be interested in and some monuments, but not necessarily the ones in your link. I uploaded a few additional Frankfort pics to WikiMediaCommons here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Frankfort%2C_KY Kaplansa (talk) 11:23, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:08, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

NUTS. The Nic-o-boli is arguably the most famous food item by name on the eastern seaboard of the USA. Google shows no less than 34,000 entries for this product.
Sheesh. Let's have a grown up conversation about this before you go deleting pages arbitrarily just because you've never heard of it. You simply need to search better. BRING BACK NIC-O-BOLI!!!
