Speedy deletion nomination of User:Kalamazoo Astronomical Society

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Kalamazoo Astronomical Society, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Puffin Let's talk! 19:17, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I noticed that your username (Kalamazoo Astronomical Society) may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is a promotional username. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account to use for editing. Thank you. Puffin Let's talk! 19:18, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only you. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you.

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... This is not a "for profit" organization; it is an historic scientific educational organization with both newsworthy and noteworthy attributes. The organization advertises in other ways. --Kalamazoo Astronomical Society (talk) 19:25, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

"To discover more, visit..." is promotion. We aren't concerned whether an organisation is charity, non-profit, corner shop or multinational, or a church or knitting circle. Promotion is promotion, and is not allowed on Wikipedia. Peridon (talk) 20:00, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
