Syracuse Real Food Cooperative edit

I saw your comment on Niro5's user page. The co-op is mentioned in the University Neighborhood article, where it belongs, as 618 Kensington Rd. is in that neighborhood. Your edits are being seen as ads as you added it to Meadowbrook and Westcott. Simply put, it just looks like you are just trying to promote the co-op, aka placing an ad on Wikipedia. You can expand the information on the co-op in University Neighborhood. Just make sure to keep it NPOV and abide WP:COPY. If you feel the co-op has enough of a history and reputation, you could even start an article Syracuse Real Food Cooperative. We value your edits, but they have to be encyclopedic and ad-free. -newkai t-c 17:37, 9 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I would like to include a section in the Syracuse's economy spot about cooperatives.

The brief articles I posted are not by any means ads, rather I intended for them to be seen in an educational context.

If the concern is ads then why (as I mentioned) do Brugers and P&C both wind up in articles about the area?

The fact that the City of Syracuse has two successful cooperative businesses is worth including in both the 'economy' section as well as the specific neigborhoods they reside in (Westcott, University, Meadowbrook).

Cooperatives and open source projects, like wikipedia, are so similar in their intents and purposes that I can not imagine any reason to hold up postings like the ones that were deleted.

You might have an argument for the neighborhood articles. It's probably something that should be brought up on the project talk... I'll wait for further comment. However, the main Syracuse article has to be kept ultra-concise as it can easily get long. While co-ops might be of neighborhoodly importance, they are not as vital to the city as, let's say, Syracuse University, SUNY Upstate, etc. -newkai t-c 23:04, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Style tips edit

Just saw your Syracuse Real Food Cooperative article. It's good. I just had to do some minor adjustments according to WP:Style, but nothing major. By the way, user names aren't placed in articles... See Wikipedia:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License. But I know you're new, so you probably weren't aware of it. :-) I did the same thing when I first came to Wikipedia! -newkai t-c 23:10, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

One more tip: I saw you made two identical articles: Syracuse Real Food Cooperative and Syracuse Real Food Co-op. There's no need for this, as the MediaWiki software has a built-in redirect feature. By clicking the #R button you can redirect one article to another. Or you can manually enter #REDIRECT [[Syracuse Real Food Cooperative]] for example. I did that now, using Syracuse Real Food Cooperative as that's the full name as listed on the co-op's website (see botom of syracuserealfood.coopabout/index.html). -newkai t-c 23:20, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much. I appreciate all the help, I am facinated by the possibilities of Wikipedia (and Wikis in general). I would love to play a more active role in the Syracuse Wiki project, please keep me posted as things come up.--KVenneSyr 02:11, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Syracuse revives... edit

Hi KVenneSyr -- Just a note to claim that Wikipedia:WikiProject Syracuse, New York is at least somewhat revived, with a couple people contributing and a good number of new articles. See the new article list on the main webpage of the project. Hope you can return and participate! p.s. I like coops, too.... doncram (talk) 00:52, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
