Ohio Shields

edit

Do you plan on doing all the shields (SVGs) and uploading them or doing them as you go? Personally, I'd do them all at once, so they have a consistent 'feel'. Let me know as I want to do the Ohio State Highway 59 Article. --UltraSkuzzi 17:42, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I ment that I wanted to add a infobox. --UltraSkuzzi 23:31, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh okay. I've got the shields you'll need posted up and ready to go. Micheal 23:49, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Please look at the page now. I included other state routes that intersect, which do not have shields. --UltraSkuzzi 00:27, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Try using this template:
{{OHShield|#|20}}
Thanks! If you need any info for Northeast Ohio stuff, don't hesitate to drop me a line in the future. --UltraSkuzzi 00:40, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ohio Shields (2)

edit

Hi -- I'm trying without success to create more shields for articles I've written and plan to write. I requested to have my first attempts deleted, and tried again without success. It's probably because I'm being cheap and trying to use a program that isn't giving me the results I need.

I'm going to need a boatload of shields, and am hoping you have the time to help. Please let me know if you can.

Regards, Don / --Homefryes 10:53, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for making these. Would it be possible to upload them onto the commons with shorter names like Ohio X.svg? --SPUI (T - C) 12:20, 16 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry I haven't been around to update the shields as I've been kinda swamped lately, sure I can start uploading them with shorter names, would probably have to go in and move them to the new names but I think that can be done. Micheal 20:58, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi – since posting the subject below (regarding standardization), it has come to my attention that the actual size of the 3-digit signs may need to be adjusted. I did some comparisons from pictures I found posted online (I'll get that link for you when I get home and replace this text with the reference). The size is actually the same as for other shields on this site -- 750x600, as opposed to your 671x600. In addition to the font size I mentioned below, I'd certainly like to help with the daunting task of redoing the shields, uploading with a shorter name (as SPUI suggested above), getting the shields on the commons, and getting all the linking issues this change will create sorted out. Kind regards, Homefryes 20:56, 9 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I posted a response to your post below on font sizes with what I've been using, and any help creating new shields (which leads me to another point, start over from scratch or go with what we have now and use the new stuff on new shields) would be greatly appreciated. Micheal 06:46, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
edit - I've created a 3di shield on the 750x600 image as a test so you could let me know what you think. here it is Micheal 00:01, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ohio Shields Standardization

edit

Hi, KC –

I was doodling around on the Commons, and noticed that you have Ohio shields there as well as here. There seems to be a discrepancy on naming conventions as well as text size (for the 1- and 2-digit shields). I would like to offer the suggestion that we agree on a standard font size, and that we move all of the shields to the commons. I have taken the liberty to add the suffix |### to the categorization on the descriptions of your shields on the Commons, which helps sort them numerically. I'd like to offer my help in any way to work on the task of standardization, as I have, as you know, created a number of shields for Ohio as well. Let me know your thoughts. – Regards, Homefryes 17:49, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I meant to include that I do not have any formal research for what the font size should be, so I'm open to whatever is suggested – I'm just looking for consistency. Thanks!

I have been using regular Series D fonts (Roadgeek 2005 Series D) sized around 325-330. Micheal 06:26, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
edit (again) - 360 for the 2di, 335 for the 3di on the 750x600 shield.
I did do some research since my initial posting (above) on Ohio State Ends, and though there are some variations here and there, based on which signs looked to be new and which ones looked to be older, I came up with one standard for the 1- and 2-digit shields and a couple of standards for the 3-digit shields, one regular and one for shields with at least 2 "1's" in them (while the font was the same, the spacing between the digits was wider, and I used 3 text boxes instead of 1). I used the D-series font for all, as that matched the pictures. I researched as many shields as there were good pictures available on that site, and matched the sizing of the font to the actual pictures. To reiterate what I said before, your 3-digit shields that are uploaded are only 671x600, and need to be made to 750x600. I am also in total agreement on the OH-XXX naming for the .svg files, as I had already stated on the Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Ohio_State_Highways. And I think they should be loaded to the commons only. Do you agree with that? Just say the word, and I can start uploading (will take a few days, and I can only do that at home, a few hours here and there as time permits).
I agree that they should be loaded onto Commons only. As for the 3di shields needing to be 750x600, would it be better to just create new ones or resize the current ones? Micheal 18:54, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely it would. I already have them done – all of them. I was just waiting mainly to hear from you before I started uploading them (since you are the creator of many of the existing shields). And you and I agree about the new naming convention, but should we wait to hear others' opinions on that before moving forward? Homefryes 20:21, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'd say post it in Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Ohio_State_Highways and see what people think then if nobody has any objection go ahead with it. Micheal 04:56, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Done. Homefryes 11:33, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Uploading Images

edit

I was thinking about using an "OH-XX.svg" format, what is anyone's opinion on that? Micheal 00:13, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm 100% for it – and would like to add that they should be on the Commons. Homefryes 14:44, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
