August 2023 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Summer Carnival (tour), disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. livelikemusic (TALK!) 01:02, 31 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much for the tip! I agree that editing a table an hour after joining the Wikipedia team may be too big of a feat for me. I will definitely check out the linked page and (for the foreseeable future) edit only the paragraphs until I get better at it. I've noticed that this Wiki page lacks a lot of information, so I will try and add as much information as possible to improve it. Since I don't want to make any referencing mistakes, I would like to ask you a question - is setlist.fm a good enough source to use, since it's been edited by people attending the shows? Pink has also been doing a "guess the song" game with her pianist every night but I haven't noticed it being mentioned in any of the show reviews. Is a video of her explaining this part of the show a good enough source even though YouTube videos aren't recommended for citation? Thank you for you help. Justlikejaggedp (talk) 12:22, 31 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Setlist.fm is not considering a reliable source as it is user-generated and user-generated sites are not permissible, and its use is not allowed, nor are questionable sources. A 2018 discussion deemed it a website to avoid in aricles (per the previously-linked user-generated content policy. livelikemusic (TALK!) 20:17, 31 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

About your edit to Pink (singer) edit

Hey Justlikejaggedp, I just noticed your edit to this article and wanted to ask that you take a few things into consideration when editing in the future. Firstly, try to break up your changes into multiple distinct edits rather than one gigantic one. If another editor were to disagree with one of your changes and revert your edit, all of your other changes would be reversed as well. Secondly, please make sure you know how to identify reliable sources to cite in articles; as the editor above also noted, some of the sources you have been citing are questionable. This is especially important on articles about living people, where much stricter policies apply. I hope you'll keep this in mind for future editing, and I hope you enjoy being on Wikipedia! Let me know if you have any questions. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 19:31, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the advice! I wasn't aware that only one disagreement could lead to a reversement of the whole edited section. I've been trying my best to cite the best possible websites but they are hard to find for the really old events (for example some of the commercials P!nk has been in, causes she supported and so on). I am trying not to add too many YouTube videos, pictures and social media posts from her since they aren't recommended so the sources that are left aren't the best. I would like to ask you if audio clips by P!nk herself are good enough (for example to add the secret songs her pianist has been playing on her current tour) since they are directly coming from the person in question. Or citing an Instagram video where she is explaining her involvement with UNICEF and Alliance of Moms? Justlikejaggedp (talk) 20:05, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
All good questions! One way to avoid accidentally citing unreliable sources is to check whether they are on the list of perennial sources. Some sources have been found by the Wikipedia community to be unacceptable, and those should be avoided. As for citing things like audio clips and Instagram posts, both of those would be considered primary sources. These kinds of sources should usually not be used, and preference is given to secondary sources such as news publications or independently written books. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 20:16, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the explanation. I have one additional question as of right now considering the recent edit on P!nk's Wikipedia page. When I wanted to publish my edit, a warning appeared about the use of less reliable sources. Because of that I removed the following link ([1]) that mentions P!nk's support of Alliance of Moms and her donation (which she addressed in this video [2]), since the website is not one of the better ones. When I clicked to publish the second time, no warning appeared. I reckoned that was the only unreliable source and the rest of them weren't a problem. I'm guessing you are going through my edit and would like to ask you if there are any sources that I've cited frequently that I should avoid in the future (maybe the algorithm hasn't automatically picked up on them). Justlikejaggedp (talk) 20:50, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia warns you if you're trying to cite sources that have been deprecated by community consensus; they would be on the list I linked above. To be honest, I'm not familiar with this topic and can't speak confidently about the quality of the sources you're using. I suggest that you discuss your changes with other editors on the article's talk page — the people there will probably be able to answer your question better than I can. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 21:03, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello again Justlikejaggedp, I just reviewed another of your edits on this article. Your cited sources are much better now, thanks for making that change! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 17:24, 3 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'd also like to point out, piping titles (ex: "Hopelessly Devoted to You" to read "Hopelessly Devoted To You" is in violation of MOS:TITLECAPS and Wikipedia's policy on naming conventions. The only time you'd pipe is in example of "Trustfall (song)" for removing "song" from the title, example: "[[Trustfall (song)|Trustfall]]". livelikemusic (TALK!) 16:26, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
