CS1 error on Arlene Harris (inventor)

edit

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Arlene Harris (inventor), may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A missing title error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 18:32, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I created a second heading where there was one before. I copied and pasted the heading reference there before so I could split them. When I look at edits for that section and log in then I see exactly what I typed when splitting the one heading into two. But the actual Wikipedia site does not show my edits or the two headings. What I did looks exactly like the subsequent two subsequent headings. What do I do? JulesJDT (talk) 19:09, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Wiiformii. I noticed that you recently removed content from Arlene Harris (inventor) without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Wiiformii (talk) 18:04, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Thank you for suggesting the sandbox. Arlene Harris told me to reorganize her references and add information that she rewrote so that details appear in another date order form earliest to latest and I was trying to do that in sections where I thought I could publish successfully. I am at a loss how one can accomplish this without sitting for painful hours to accomplish. I didn't add the one reference I intended to because I feared it would be rejected and I just wanted positive reinforcement. Should I put in the explain box that every change I make is at her direction? Would that be accepted?
I am learning with every keystroke, and you just taught me something. Thank you so much. Jule JulesJDT (talk) 18:17, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jules, Since you are editing on behalf of Arlene Harris, it might be better to request changes to her page with edit requests using Template:Edit COI, as recommended by policy. Nobody (talk) 06:08, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the recommendation. I am making changes that she wrote - adding to the content and changing out the references that are broken. I am also adding more references. Her current page says that she should have more references in some sections where none are posted. When I used the sandbox I got an email with the error, but what happened to the sandbox? I would like to have what I edit so that it can be changed. Will this Edit COI do that? Or is this another vehicle that means I start all over. I spend hours and never make progress because I keep having to start over. Arlene added more information and I found more working references. The page will be much better If I knew more. Thank you for your suggestions and support. JulesJDT (talk) 19:47, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
By using Template:Edit COI, you can make sure that your requested changes are reviewed by experienced editors familiar with the relevant policies like Verifiability, SOURCE Biographies of living persons. It's also important to remember that the article subject has no more rights than anybody else to dictate what's written about themself (more about that at FAQ/AS). Following all the policies and guidelines can be challenging in the beginning, so don't get discouraged if your early contributions don't get accepted right away. Thank you. I will do that and wait for the approvals. I tried once again yesterday to enter information. Here is what happened. Maybe it is a glitch? Not sure. Arlene Joy Harris (born June 6, 1948) is an entrepreneur, inventor, investor, and policy advocate in the telecommunications industry. She is the president and co-founder of Dyna LLC, an incubator for start-up and early-stage organizations historically in the wireless technology field.)last=Marek|first=Sue|date=2008-11-12}}</ref> news|url=https://www.fierce-network.com/special-report/top-u-s-wireless-innovators-all-time%7Cwebsite=www.fierce-network.com |access-date=2008-11-12 |title=Top U.S. Wireless Innovators of All Time }}</ref>) last=Marek|first=Sue|date=2008-11-12}}</ref> what should I do?

Are you employed by Arlene Harris? If you are being paid by her, then you must disclose this information as part of Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure policy. If not, then you should still review and follow Wikipedia's conflict of interest guide. The previous guidance left by other editors still applies, in either case. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:15, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am not employed by Arlene Harris. I am helping her fix the broken resources, add more resources where Wikipedia has requested more and change the order that her accomplishments appear on the page. I worked as an independent contractor for her twice before and as a result she trusts me to update her Wikipedia. During many of the years and accomplishments she made, I was involved in the projects as an independent contractor. Thank you for asking Drm310. I read recently it is required that I notify Wikipedia. I am trying to help a longtime friend and that is why it is so difficult for me. Do you know how to fix her page now that the reference I put in appears on the public page? I don't know why the reference appears in view. Thank you. JulesJDT (talk) 18:13, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello. I tried using the talk method to describe the work I am doing to Arlene Harris (inventor) page. I think I uderstand better how to use the Template:Edit COI. Will I need to wait until someone reviews what I wrote to allow another use of the Template?
When I try to bring up a new one it does not allow me to "add topic". Does using this template mean waiting each time until it is approved before submitting another topic? Thank you so much! I really appreciate the help, suggestions and the support! JulesJDT (talk) 19:01, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@JulesJDT: You don't edit the template itself; you use it on the article talk page, in this case Talk:Arlene Harris (inventor). When editing the article talk page, you would select the "New section" tab near the top of the page, which brings up the edit window. Then you would use the syntax {{edit COI|n}}, followed by the text of your request. Another editor has placed it their on your behalf, so your edit request is in the queue. You can still edit your request, but I would follow the advice in Wikipedia:Guide to effective COI edit requests for it to be the most effective. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 19:30, 20 June 2024 (UTC)--Drm310 🍁 (talk) 19:18, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
How would I see what the editor did on my behalf? Thank you for letting me know. I am very grateful Drm310. JulesJDT (talk) 19:53, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
This link shows the edit that the user Primefac made to move your edit to the proper place.
Every single edit ever made to Wikipedia is logged, and each page has a viewable history log that you can view by clicking the "View History" tab. From there you can see every revision made, which user did it, and the date and time it was done. You can also compare the content of two different versions of the page to see the difference in the content. The link I provided is just a shortcut way of doing the same thing.
I think you would probably benefit from learning the basics of how Wikipedia works at the help page Help:Getting started. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:37, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

some proposed changes to Arlene Harris (inventor)

edit

In the paragraph after the 3rd reference, please change the word from several to thirty regarding patents. I verified with the US Office of Patents that she has 30 patents. The paragraph starts with the word Harris. Please shorten that paragraph regarding patents to two sentences. After the word communications please end the paragraph. Please add the following reference at the end of the paragraph about patents. This reference talks about her patents. (https://www.monroecountynow.org/blog/2019/6/6/she-is-more-than-the-first-lady-of-wireless) this is the reference and my Wikipedia option is below: [1]) Please take out the 4th reference about Jitterbug. It is broken. I could not find a replacement but plan to add more references. JulesJDT (talk) 19:02, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

JulesJDT a request needs to go on the talk page of the relevant article not here. The easiest way to do this is to use the WP:Edit Request Wizard. Thank you Melcous (talk) 04:34, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello Melcous. Thank you for your help with my edits. I can't use that form because I am not employed by anyone. I am an independent contractor. I don't lie. I won't start now by telling Wikipedia I am employed when I am not. Please let me know how I may proceed if I can't use the Edit Request Wizard. Previously others suggested I use the talk form to get help editing because I am new and more experienced people would help me accomplish the edits. I am grateful you and others are helping me. I am just getting use to the edit process using the talk page. Maybe you think I should use the Edit Request Wizard, but the State of California has very firm rules about employees and employers. As an independent contractor, in California I cannot be directed by my contracted company to do anything. The changes that I make are my own thoughts about what people will want to know about Arlene Harris. I want to be sure they know how she contributed to the wireless industry in ways that impact all our lives on a daily basis. For example, she designed a method for the first prepaid phone to work. I saw the patent and the date. It was done by one of the companies she started. It was not called a prepaid phone at the time, but it was before others created something called that. If you let me post current reference, you will read that she believed everyone should own a cell phone and they should be affordable. Maybe you have a prepaid phone because of her. It is not her idea for me to add that to her page. It is my idea. As an independent contractor in the state of California, I decide when and how to do things. I can't define who employees me because I am not employed. I look forward to your response in a way that enables me to keep editing a page that was created long ago. Many of the references are broken and according to the site, more references should be added. I am trying to accomplish this for Wikipedia. Please advice.
