Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Jsparrowmedia. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Thine Antique Pen (talk) 17:36, 22 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

I can see that you need help and that you're asking for help, but I can't quite figure out what you're wanting to accomplish and how someone can help you.
You made some changes at Runtown that were not well explained and seemed unsupported by proper references, so were reverted. You could explain on Talk:Runtown which information you consider outdated and engage in discussion with other editors about what needs to be changed in the article. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 00:00, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

  Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Runtown. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!   Hello, I'm Zackmann08. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Runtown have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:50, 1 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Zackmann08: I appreciate you helping with the inbox but this article was written from a well researched neutral point of view. Most of the information on the article prior to my edit were false including his age. I have to reason to try to advertise for the subject, I am just trying to work my way up editing for wikipedia thats all. have a great day..Sparrow 21:19, 1 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Zackmann08: If you find any information on the article to be false please remove it. ThanksSparrow 21:20, 1 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

  Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Runtown, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:24, 1 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Zackmann08:your maintenance message is not valid. read through the article and fix what you feel is wrong. my messages to you earlier was me addressing this conflict. such alerts make my work look bad as I edited that page under the supervision of one of the admins...my mistake was with the infobox and I have thanked you for fixing it. what more do you want?Sparrow 21:27, 1 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Yunshui  12:14, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

This does not address your inappropriate edits. Yamla (talk) 21:11, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Yamla: what inappropriate edits? my mistake was technical with no ulterior motives, I was corrected and moved on. I am only asking for a fair chance to learn coding on here properly. I have no interest advertising for anyone. Every information I added is genuine and I did enough research to provide links to validate my article. Nigeria hasn't fully caught up tho this hence my failure to provide links to back up things I included in the article. I do not work for the subject neither was I compensated for those edit so I think it is fair to punish me by blocking my edits based on one persons opinion because he didn't like the tone in which I replied him. Makes no sense.. I have heeded every correction given to me and I have challenged none because I admit I don't know much about this and I am here and willing to learn.
