WikiCup 2015 September newsletter

The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.

In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far   Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was   Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.

The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1.   Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
  2.   Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
  3.   Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
  4.   Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
  5.   West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.
  6.   Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
  7.   Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
  8.   Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.

The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.

Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!

Uncivil Comment

Hi,

I am user:India142 and apparently you had put a message for User:103.18.72.20 for making uncivil comments on my talk page.
But your message: Hello, I'm Josve05a. I noticed that you made a comment on the page User:India142 with this edit that didn't seem very civil, so I removed it. Wikipedia needs people like you and me to collaborate, so it’s one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page., ended up on my own talk page (User India142)!!!

Does this means me and user:103.18.72.20 who put the bizzare comment share the same IP address ? I am not that good when it comes to technical stuff but i am really worried if this user:103.18.72.20 goes on to make further crazy edits or does something illegal here, i might be held responsible for it. Could you please help me with this, if you can ? Thank you very much. --India142 (talk) 08:16, 12 September 2015 (UTC)

Thank you SO MUCH

I can't believe the distress this 71.* guy caused me on Huggle. I couldn't revert, because I thought all the new edits were reverts. When I found out they weren't, I decided to edit the page myself. But that's where you came in! If it wasn't for you, I would have had to track down the most recent good edit and paste that in myself. You saved me all that time and effort, and I can't thank you enough. T3h 1337 b0y 23:54, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

We are currently working on making it easier to group all edits by the same user in Huggle, so that you don't have to check each edit etc. Should come with the next update (3.1.17). Always lad that I could help out :) (tJosve05a (c) 23:57, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Naruto page

While reading the Naruto page that you edited, I was bothered by one sentence that left a crucial detail out. I insist that one small thing be revised to the full truth. It is about Gaara's reincarnation after dying from the One Tail's extraction by the Akatsuki. The page states that "Naruto and his comrades" saved him in time, which isn't the truth in full. Naruto and his comrades failed to save Gaara and prevent his death. He did die, but was brought back by the Sand's Elder Chiyo at the cost of her own life using her own jutsu she created for her grandson, Sasori. I think that it should be noted that Gaara did die and was brought back by Chiyo, who exchanged her life for his. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.170.52.143 (talk) 02:02, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

isqft_logo_horizontal.png image upload

This upload was declined because the article draft was declined. I've edited the article and it's now been approved. Is it possible for this file to be uploaded now? Do I need to resubmit the request? Thank you for your help!

@Eskipper: Yes, you need to submit it again, sorry. (tJosve05a (c) 22:00, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Deleted Article

I am author of "Dear Satan Help Us" It was removed becaused it was labeled a fanfiction?

I'm very disappointed with this treatment. This is soully my creation, my story. I am making it a comic and novel, you could of messaged me or something pure deletion? Highly unprofessional, I am not pleased.

I'm not trying to give trouble but I attempted to make an article for my story.

I have characters back stories done and characters drawn, all done by me. I have 15 chapters, I upload every Friday! Far from a fanfiction!

I'm going to recreate it again I guess or do I just ask for you to unremove it? I'm just an autor like Andrew creator of Homestuck who has a page here at Wikipedia.

I'm just an author too with a large story gaining success. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MissSenpaiJ (talkcontribs) 16:26, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

Using AWB to replace emphasis tags

Note that edits like this one are working against MOS:EMPHASIS. Please don't do that. I'll go ahead and revert that one example. Also, edit summaries of simply "‎(using AWB)" fail to describe what you're actually changing. I see several of those in your recent contribs list. Just sayin'. Otherwise, happy editing! – voidxor 22:20, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
