July 2017 edit

Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Dragonstone (Game of Thrones), did not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. -- AlexTW 23:18, 24 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Username? edit

Hey, I don't suppose anyone has pointed you to WP:IMPERSONATE yet?

I am not aware if it is a serious (blockable) offense to inadvertently use the name of a real person without realizing it is a violation, but you might want to consider voluntarily changing your username, unless "Joss Whedon" is your actual name. (And even if it is you'd probably be better off using a pseudonym.)

In my Wiki it's not violation. So if you don't have anything to say, goodbye Josswhedon (talk) 08:27, 2 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean "your Wiki"? This is English Wikipedia, and you are expected to abide by our username policy. Your username makes it look like you are claiming to be a well-known, real-world individual. Unless you are Joss Whedon this is definitely the case, and even if you are another person with the same name you are strongly advised to specify in your sig and/or on your user page that "Joss Whedon" is your real name but you are not the famous writer/director. Also, please note that the only reason I'm here is because WP:UAA is only for egregious usernames that require immediate blocks, and in cases like yours where, apparently, you are using the same screen-name you used on a different site where it is not a violation, we are supposed to inform you that your username is a violation in order to allow you to voluntarily either request a new username or abandon your account. I am assuming you are acting in good faith and simply have not read our username policy, but if you respond with another snarky comment like above, I will probably take this to WP:RFCN or elsewhere. BTW, it seems you are a native Russian speaker (based on your global contribs), so I checked up, and if Google Translate is to be trusted ru.wiki has basically the same policy. See ru:ВП:ИУ#Настоящие имена. Hijiri 88 (やや) 13:46, 2 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because the username, Josswhedon, matches the name of a well-known, living person.

If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You may choose to edit under a new username (see information below), but keep in mind that you are welcome to continue to edit under this username. If you choose to do so, we ask the following:

  1. Please be willing and able to prove your identity to Wikipedia.
  2. Please send an email to info-en wikimedia.org. Be aware that the volunteer response team that handles email is indeed operated entirely by volunteers, and the reply may not be immediate.

If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} on your user talk page, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.
