Creating a David Savran Page on Wikipedia edit

I'm designating this space for brainstorming the creation of a page on David Savran (academic). His page does not currently exist.

Things we need: brief biography, list of publications, reception and major criticism

Things to look at: book reviews, such as that for "Cowboys, Communists, and Queers"

Plan of attack: generate at least a solid paragraph here before moving to create the page Josephpaulhill (talk) 22:52, 25 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I found Savran's LinkedIn account. It says that he taught at Brown University from 1988 to 2001, and he's been at the Graduate Center since 2001. He lists his education as Carnegie Mellon University. Since I know he received his Ph.D. from Cornell where he studied with Marvin Carlson and Bert States, perhaps he did his undergraduate study at Carnegie Mellon. Also, clearly LinkedIn is not a reliable source, even if the information was published by Savran himself. We'll need to find evidence of these facts elsewhere. I've moved the beginnings of the page on David Savran (scholar) to my Sandbox so we can work on formatting. Please feel free to edit the page there. Josephpaulhill (talk) 00:17, 13 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've done some minor edits to this well laid out page. It would be ideal if we could provide brief summaries of his books on the page (links to other wiki pages). I think receptions of his most recent books is what we could develop further for now. Dingza (talk) 03:19, 15 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

I have formatted the publications in the descending order. Dingza (talk) 19:29, 15 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

I am adding the book chapters, which are quite long. Not quite sure whether it fits within the wikipedia "protocols." Dingza (talk) 19:29, 15 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

This may not be a good fit for the page, but I thought his reflection on his time in Egypt may be of interest, since it is a reflection of his interests in foreign cultures...It was a very nice read, if nothing else, maybe we could create a link to it? http://www.textures-platform.com/?p=2727

Also, does it help that I found on the NYU site, the announcement of his Joe A. Callaway Prize? Even though it is not a direct link to the award page, it is from the university. http://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2010/07/29/nyus-joe-a-callaway-prize-awarded-to-david-savran-for-highbrowlowdown.html

Okay that is my two cents for now. I am still trying to work this faculty e-portfolio angle to see if I can find more information, I haven't contributed! AlexaStreet (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 19:46, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
