Problems
- All queries to the Wikidata Query Service failed between 17:50 and 17:59 UTC on Thursday 23 July. Some queries failed during a longer period. [1]
- Interlanguage links were ordered incorrectly for the past few weeks. This problem was also mentioned in Tech News two weeks ago. The problem is now fixed. [2]
- There is a problem with the global preferences for the "Use Legacy Vector" option. Developers are working on fixing it. [3]
- A bug in the Wikibase extension had disabled the "move" and "create" types of protection in the main (Gallery) namespace on Wikimedia Commons. New protections could not be added, and existing protections were not enforced, allowing some page moves and page creations that should not have been possible. This has now been fixed. [4]
Changes later this week
- The video player will change to be simpler and more modern. This week, the current beta feature will become the video player for everyone on most non-Wikipedia wikis. The old player will be removed. [5]
- Users'
global.js
andglobal.css
pages will now also be loaded on the mobile site. You can read documentation for how to avoid applying styles to the mobile skin. [6] - In the MonoBook skin, the
searchGoButton
identifier is nowsearchButton
. This may affect CSS and JS gadgets. Migration instructions can be found in T255953. This was previously mentioned in issue 27. - Bot operators can use Pywikibot to regularly archive discussions. The behavior when the bot uses
counter
to prevent large archives was changed. [7] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from August 4. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from August 5. It will be on all wikis from August 6 (calendar).

Hi Joseph2302! Thank you for your feedback on my article draft for football freestyler Tom Nolan, I just wanted to reach out to ask if you had any other feedback as an experienced editor to improve this page it would be much appreciated for me to take notes from. Language localisation
Please see the discussion on my talk page for language localisation codes User_talk:FozzieHey#Re:_Language_localisation_unnecessary?, if you still feel it's unnecessary then I'm happy to have a discussion here or continue the discussion in that section, thanks! FozzieHey (talk) 22:56, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- Just saw it, and whilst I don't agree that we should be adding lang=en to "help other wikis" (because that isn't our problem, and it clutters up English wiki), I understand that people have decided we should apparently do that. I've self reverted. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:59, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Re: Clap For Our Carers edits
Hello Joseph
Thank you for your comments and apologies if you believed I was spamming. This was just plain ignorance on my part.
However I believe that the immediate revocation of my edits is unnecessary and causing inaccuracies.

I did not mean to spam links, I only believed that I was adding citations to back up the updated information regarding the award that Clap for Our Carers has now won (that it currently says they were only nominated for). Please see these independent, respected links as evidence of this: https://www.thirdsectordigitalawards.com/results-2020/ https://jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/community-agency-behind-clap-for-carers-initiative-wins-award/ I was also adding factual evidence that proves the impact and success of the campaign. This must surely be of value from a perspective of news and information relating to the campaign? In particular this: "Why did it win? By 30 June 2020, the social media reach of the #ClapForCarers campaign included more than 413 million views on TikTok; 553,000 impressions on Instagram; and 1.4 million impressions on Twitter. Leading figures in public office supported the campaign, including the Queen, the Prime Minister and the Mayor of London, and the campaign also benefited from celebrity support, from the Beckhams to Daniel Craig. The campaign was hugely successful in raising awareness of, and pride in, the vital roles that frontline NHS and key workers played across the coronavirus pandemic, with the weekly round of applause becoming a focal point of the initial crisis. The BBC, ITV, Channel Four and Sky News / Sky One broadcasted the applause live for nine weeks." and also this: "What did the judges say? This work hit at the right time and the right place and people were ready for it,” judges said, praising the coordinated effort to promote Annemarie’s initiative. “The response and reach was massive and powerful. the most effective work here. The Clap for Carers has become part of our culture." I hope this will allay your concerns and that you are able to accept at least some, if not all of these suggested edits. If not are you able to help with creation of the entry in such a way as to be acceptable? |

Hi. Re the Jorge Sikora article, which you have declined on the grounds that he has not played a first team game. Please read the article carefully - it clearly states he appeared professionally for the Bradford City first team in the EFL Trophy. As a professional footballer for Bradford City, he certainly meets notability guidelines. Donsolomon (talk) 12:51, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Donsolomon He played 24 minutes in a cup game, but the cup game was against Man City U-21s, who are not a fully professional side (as they are the reserve team). Therefore, he doesn't pass WP:NFOOTY, and he certainly doesn't pass Wikipedia's general notability guideline. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:52, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

- FileImporter and FileExporter became standard features on all Wikis during the first week of August. They help you transfer files from local wikis to Wikimedia Commons with the original file information and history intact. [8]
Problems

Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from August 11. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from August 12. It will be on all wikis from August 13 (calendar).
Future changes
- All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on September 1. This is planned between 13:30 and 15:30 UTC. More information will be published in Tech News and will also be posted on individual wikis in the coming weeks. [10][11]

Recent changes
- If you revert an edit using the undo link your edit is marked with an
undo
tag. This will now only happen if you don't change anything in the edit window before publishing the undo. This is to keep users from marking edits as undos when they actually do something else. [12] - The new OOUI version will not work with Internet Explorer 8. This means the wikis will look strange and not work well in Internet Explorer 8. This was reported in Tech/News/2020/17. This is because keeping the wikis working with very old browsers creates other problems. [13]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 18 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 19 August. It will be on all wikis from 20 August (calendar).
Future changes
- All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on September 1. This is planned between 13:30 and 15:30 UTC. More information will be published in Tech News and will also be posted on individual wikis next week. This is a reminder. You can help by translating the announcement message. [14][15]
