Magic sets edit

I just noticed that you had few Magic set expansion articles on your to-do list. I've created Kaldheim and Strixhaven: School of Mages and started drafts for Draft:Guilds of Ravnica and Draft:Zendikar Rising. Ravnica Allegiance and War of the Spark were missing from the navbar so I've added those and if I have time, I'll get drafts started. I'm not sure I have enough time today to finish the drafts so feel free to update any of these articles. Sariel Xilo (talk) 23:44, 8 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Took the time to create Draft:Ravnica Allegiance & Draft:War of the Spark but both are pretty much barebones outlines. Sariel Xilo (talk) 00:05, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for informing me, and thank you for creating those articles. I’ll remove the pages from my to-do list ;) --Jonadrews (talk) 08:36, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

I see you dabble in images... edit

Hi! Thanks for your work on the Georg Schnéevoigt image uploads. I am at work on Draft:Discography of Sibelius symphony cycles and could really use images to compliment the article. But, I don't work over at WikiCommons, and I don't understand the nuances of copyright. Do you think you could help me out? If so, then I have some names I would love for you to hunt down. Thanks! Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 00:34, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Would LOVE this image (from 1934), cropped of course so that it fits well with the images of Robert Kajanus, Leopold Stokowski, and Serge Koussevitzky I'm using. Do you think it's possible? Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 02:34, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
The website states that the image is licensed under CC BY 4.0, but the image is old enough to be considered public domain, so I've uploaded it to Commons (here). Feel free to ask me for anything else, and I'll do my best to help out :-) --Jonadrews (talk) 12:23, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much! How about a better image of Paavo Berglund, c. 1970s. The one I'm being forced to use at present is grainy and too at-a-distance. How would one find fair use images of the more modern Finnish composers, such as Leif Segerstam, Jukka-Pekka Saraste (1990s would be ideal), Hannu Lintu, Osmo Vänskä, and others. Strikes me that, as a field, the conductor images on Wikipedia are just kind of hit-or-miss. One more thing: could you please crop the image I'm using of Herbert von Karajan, such that it is similar in its formatting to the one of Leonard Bernstein that I've paired it with? Thanks!! Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 13:06, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
It'd also be nice to have an image of Kajanus from 1930 or so, since he made these recordings as a septuagenarian. He's far too young in the image I am using, however glorious that mustache. Here's one, but it would need some t.l.c. and I'd prefer b/w to sepia. The image of Stokowski is also a bit too early, as it is from the 1900s. Again, 1930s would be preferable. And, the image of Koussevitzky is a bit blurring, too... and undated (but, here's a Getty image with the same suite, tie, and personal effects from Jan. 1, 1930) So, why the interest in Schnéevoigt? Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 13:17, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sadly I couldn't find a freely licensed image of Berglund nor of Koussevitzky, but while searching I managed to find Koussevitzky's signature (which is probably not of much use, but I thought it was neat). I found this image of Kajanus, which I converted to b/w and uploaded to Commons, you can find it here. I found this image of Stokowski, but it's very low resolution, and does not fit with the other images, and did therefore not upload it. I also cropped the image of Karajan as you requested, you can find it here. Finding public domain/freely licensed images from the twenty first century can be a hassle, and I usually tend not to, sometimes you can get lucky and find a good free one though :p The reason that I'm interested in Schnéevoigt is because I actually have loose family ties to him. --Jonadrews (talk) 15:28, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi! I can't believe that I forgot to return here to thank you for your help! Quite inconsiderate of me. Anyway, I love the new image of Kajanus, as well as of Schnéevoigt! You've done tremendous work (provided they survive image review when I eventually try for FLC). How interesting (amazing!) that you have familial ties to Schnéevoigt; Axel Carpelan and Adolf Paul seem to not have been fans of his conducting style, and prevailed upon Sibelius... I haven't yet listened to his world premiere recording of the Sixth Symphony, but it's nice to see that Naxos Historical has worked to restore it to its proper place in history, it having for so long been replaced by the interpretation by Thomas Beecham. Oh, this image policy! Grumble... I can't make heads of tails of it. All I know is that the images of conductors 'series' is in a sorry state, specially the oft-neglected Nordic conductors. Any labor here on your part would be tremendously valuable. Could you please take a moment to crop the image of Paavo Berglund with Aulis Sallinen (crop out all others, including Sallinen's cigarette)? At least then we could have an image that shows his face. Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 15:13, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing! I've uploaded it here, hope it looks fine. --Jonadrews (talk) 15:41, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Good work! But... I don't know. The resolution is a problem, especially relative to the other images. What do you think? Draft:Discography of Sibelius symphony cycles#Complete Sibelius cycles: 1952–present Maybe suitable until we can locate something better outside of copyright? Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 15:45, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
The resolution is indeed very low, but I would say that it at least looks better than the old one. It would be amazing if we could find one of higher quality, so I'll stay on the lookout ;) --Jonadrews (talk) 15:53, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Also, I'd pay big money for an image of Hannu Lintu! ;) Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 15:47, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
It might be possible to reach out to him and ask him to send a picture. I highly doubt that it would work, but it can't hurt to try. The only issues is that I can't speak Finnish, so we would probably have to ask someone for a favor. --Jonadrews (talk) 15:59, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
If you know anyone who speaks Finnish and would want to help out, the email is hanna@hannulintu.fi. --Jonadrews (talk) 16:01, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Seems like Osmo Vänskä's agent makes images available for free download? Why do these then violate copyright? Wouldn't they fall under fair use? [1] Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 16:39, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Lintu too! [2]
Oramo too!! [3]
Rouvali too!!! [4]
Segerstam!!! [5]
Kamu! [6] (all this is of course premised on the idea that agents make images of the clients available for precisely this kind of thing... publicity.)
The fact that the images are free doesn’t necessarily mean that they aren’t protected by copyright. It doesn’t look like they say how the images are licensed on the website, so we have no way of knowing for sure. --Jonadrews (talk) 17:44, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
And if I wanted to reach out to then to inquire as the the images' status, what types of language and terms would one use? Educate me, please! Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 19:40, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
So I found their Terms and Conditions, it states:

HarrisonParrott and our associates own the copyright for all material on this Website, and all content is protected by the copyright laws of the United Kingdom and all other applicable copyright and intellectual property laws. You may not republish any content without the prior written consent of HarrisonParrott Any unauthorised downloading, copying or modification of any of the content of this website may be subject of legal action.

You might get lucky and get permission to republish the image yourself, but if you want to upload it to Commons, everyone in the world would need permission. --Jonadrews (talk) 12:58, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
And, how about a picture of Thomas Beecham from the late 1930s or 1940s? I'd like to replace Stokowski with him, since his recordings enjoy a more classic status. But the picture of Beecham on his bio page is horrifically frightening. He looks like a monster. Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 00:44, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing, you can find it here (it's from 1946, hope that's ok) :) --Jonadrews (talk) 13:11, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! But now I'm thinking I'd like to crop Schnéevoigt and Kajanus to be the same degree of close-up as Beecham. And I might switch the pic of Koussevitzky (can you find a better one?), too. Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 15:09, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
So much more sharp; I can see the texture of the material in his suit! Nevermind... we have a high res already on Commons. I guess his bio page was using an outdated upload of the same photo. Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 15:17, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Knock, knock... how 'bout a Schnéevoigt crop? Damn, it doesn't rhyme. Oh well. :) Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 13:40, 26 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
I am now done with the crop (that wasn't even close to rhyming), I've uploaded it here. Just so you know, tomorrow I'll be going on vacation for the next couple of weeks, so I wont be editing on Wikipedia for a short while ;) --Jonadrews (talk) 10:42, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Welcome back, I imagine by now, from vacation! Would love it if we could team up again for some images. Right now I'm looking for more options for images of and/or related to (e.g., signature) Uuno Klami, as (eventually) I'll write his biography. Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 15:54, 24 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hey! I'm super sorry for the late response (how unprofessional of me). I'll be doing something for next 3-5 days, but after that I would love to help you out with some images! --Jonadrews (talk) 10:20, 28 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Alright, sorry for the constant delays. I have now finally had some time to sit down and look for some images :p I found a couple of portraits, but sadly no signature or anything else. I decided to upload 4 portraits to Commons, one of Klami outside (though this one is kinda low res), one where he's at a piano, and two pretty unnoteworthy uploaded here and here. I hope it's sufficient :) --Jonadrews (talk) 15:07, 3 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! Having you back makes me very happy. :) These will be a great help, indeed! A few quibbles and a few requests: Can we crop the black out of the one of Klami in a beret? And, I must if possible have the most iconic image of Klami, albeit cropped to remove the interloper:

And I wouldn't also mind a personal favorite:

And, here's his signature, if it can be isolated:

And here's one with his wife, I think:

Lots of cool stuff here, too... though I haven't been able yet to translate it via Google:

Many, many thanks for your great assistance! Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 21:43, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the kinds words :-) That black border is not supposed to be there, that's on me, it has now been cropped. I stumbled upon https://klamicompetition.fi/fi/historia-uuno-klamin-jalanj%C3%A4ljill%C3%A4-ja-aiemmat-finalistit as well, but wasn't entirely sure if it was actually his signature, https://www.last.fm/music/Uuno+Klami/+images/c952ac54c88a476f9bcaa321e49ce725 looks a little more convincing, so I've isolated that and uploaded it here as an svg. The other images have been uploaded here, here, here, and here (I didnt get to look at the cool stuff, sorry). Best regards --Jonadrews (talk) 07:09, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Many, many thanks! Having images to works with helps to inspire me to write, which means new content for Wikipedia. :) One last request: Can we please crop out the other individual in https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Uuno_Klami_with_Arvi_Kivimaa.jpg ? Thanks, Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 22:26, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing! You can find the crop here: commons:File:Uuno Klami with Arvi Kivimaa (cropped).jpg --Jonadrews (talk) 05:46, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Knock, knock edit

Hi, Jonatan! Your services are requested: Given the brilliant work you did for me on Uuno Klami's autograph, I'm looking for a similar treatment for Leevi Madetoja and, especially, Jean Sibelius (we've got an infobox on his page now and a signature appears to have the go-ahead). If you're game, then I'd be happy to discuss things in more detail. Very warmly Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 16:36, 31 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Silence of Järvenpää. Thank you for reaching out, and thank you for the kind words! Sadly, I'm currently not able to devote any time for image hunting or Wikipedia editing due to personal reasons. I wish I could help out, I really do, but it's just not possible at the moment. I'll reach out to you if the situation changes ;). Best regards, Jonadrews (talk) 15:51, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Jonatan! I'm sorry to hear that you're going through a difficult/busy patch; I do hope that things will improve/clear up for you soon. I enjoyed our collaborations, however brief, and I'll look forward to your return. It doesn't seem as though anyone else is chomping at the bit to do the Sibelius and Madetoja autographs, so for know please allow me to keep them penciled in on your to-do list! Hi, Jonatan! Just a quick note to say that I hope, very much so, that you're doing a bit better! Sending you good vibes, Silence of Järvenpää (talk) 17:30, 20 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
