More on RailHawks

edit

The 'Hawks continue to be a bit schizophrenic about their colors. After telling me they were planning on wearing Blue/Blue/White away, they came out last night in Blue/White/Blue???

Supposedly, they are going to debut their orange kit on Tuesday v. Chivas USA.

As for Philip Long, his actual squad number is going to be 13, but they didn't have a kit printed with that number when he signed this past week so he wore 19 the last two nights. He should be in his regular squad number on Tuesday (I hope).

Boy, minor league soccer is a thrill a minute, isn't it?

Thanks for all the work you do on the USL pages. It hasn't gone unnoticed. Wjarrettc

Very very sorry! What happened was the wording of the Wikipedia article and your Web page were exactly the same, (mis)leading me to believe that someone had just copied verbatim from a 3rd party site. I was completely oblivious to your name at the bottom of your Web site. My apologies.
In order to prevent mistakes like mine, I would suggest the following. In the "Edit summary" box on article edit pages, write something like:

PDL clubs

edit

I disagree with your classification of PDL club as 'professional' in player info boxes. PDL teams are amateur because they use college players who retain their eligibility. That is why I listed them under 'Youth clubs' with colleges in player infoboxes. I think we should revert to that style, keeping PDL teams listed under 'Youth clubs' ... let me know what you think. Jyardley 20:45, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I checked on JY's talk page and couldn't tell whether a conclusion has been reached on this. I've been abiding by your style for a while now, and I think I prefer it. However, assuming that outfits like the Chicago Fire Premier are integrated into the new MLS youth system next year, do you think we should move them into "youth clubs"? Even under the current situation, there's a decent argument for taking the few PDL teams that are directly attached to MLS clubs and moving them into the "youth" category - while leaving independent PDL outfits as "professional clubs". The Bradenton Academics present another such quandary. Bill Oaf 05:28, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
And while I'm at it, do you know what's what with Crystal Palace Baltimore, who some say are joining the PDL for '07 and others say are now gonna join the USL-2? Bill Oaf 08:29, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
No problem with the disambigs. I added all the team pages to my watchlist as I went, so as to help keep them ship-shape and gradually improve them. I also took note of a few player pages that needed some work, and, for that matter, switched back the Chicago Fire Premier status (from youth to pro) on two players (Danny O'Rourke and someone else, I forget) where I'd switched it in the past. Another thing: when it comes to players who are working on some sort of loan arrangement and are listed on the rosters of both MLS teams and USL sides, we may want to start specifying their status. That might be the next good project: getting the details on these arrangements and marking them on WP. Bill Oaf 03:24, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

PDL Standings

edit

Sorry about that. I usually get into the habit of setting up the standings where if two teams have the same number of points and wins, I go by number of losses, which probably isn't correct. I'll make sure to keep it in standard tiebreaker format next time. Otav347 16:17, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

MLS SuperDraftees

Hey, nice work on creating the articles for the players in the SuperDraft so far. They're up for AfD right now, but I'm optimistic they'll stay up. I was just going to mention that if you happen to work on creating more, it might be good to go for a more formal tone so they sound a little more encyclopedic. I cleaned up the Mike Zaher article some along those lines. Just something to keep in mind if you keep going through the SuperDraft. Not a good night for either one of us

edit

Ugh. First round losses for both of our clubs? Really? I see we lost by the same score. Not only that, but if you look at our stat sheets, we both lost in pretty much the exact same fashion. Up late, give up the equalizer with the clock winding down, give up a goal some time in OT, and then get caught off guard with our boys pushing up in the final minutes to seal the deal. I'm so ticked off because we had so many chances late, but their keeper was absolutely OUTSTANDING. It's going to be a LONG offseason. In the meantime, we're going to keep busy holding meetings and trying to drum up support for an MLS Detroit team. I tell ya, being the regular season champ is a curse. No one pulls off the double in the PDL; it's way too tough. Good luck with the Galaxy the rest of the way. At least you have something to fall back on.

Oh, by the way, the team we lost to, Kalamazoo, they're an affiliate of Sheffield Wednesday, so go easy on me. --Otav347 (talk) 04:18, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Past PDL Season box scores

edit

As far as what I'm looking for for past playoff scores, I can usually find the goals easily on the PDL playoff pages, what I'm mainly looking for are cards, own goals (particularly the players charged with them), goals on PKs, and penalty shootout stats. If you can find any of those from '07 on back I'd appreciate it. I'm not in any rush, as I'm sure you're heading to Fresno along with having eleventy billion other things going on. Good luck to your Quakes as well... well, maybe not so much against the Tide! Mtndrums (talk) 01:57, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

PDL Playoffs

edit

Just wanna say congrats on the win tonight and in the process winning the division title. I'm sure you'll be taking a road trip up to Fresno for the weekend, so good luck. In the meantime, I'll be enjoying home games because the Bucks are hosting the Central playoffs (and hopefully more). Hope to see you in the later rounds. --Otav347 (talk) 04:47, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orange County/Ventura County update

edit

I'm guessing you went to this game, as I'm also guessing you live in Ventura Co. based on your user page. When I first noticed you updated the standings, I thought, how the HELL did he get that result already? It's not posted anywhere.

Good to know you're supporting your local PDL club as well as the Galaxy. Have to brag, though. My local club is a lot better than yours. :-) How's attendance out there considering you have teams at the pro level? I know ours isn't bad (about 800 avg.), considering in such a big market it's the only game in town, not to mention no press anywhere outside of an occasional mention of a result. Our new supporters group is growing quite nicely, too. --Otav347 (talk) 05:16, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Guess I should've read through your user page a little more. I would've noticed the whole working for the San Fernando Valley Quakes part. Anyway, nice job on all the PDL pages this year. It's really nice to see that this effort is continually growing. I was at the Michigan Bucks game against the Chicago Fire Premier last night, and we were talking to a couple of guys who decided to join our group. Turns out they just found out about the team's existence within the past week. (shows how far we still have to go, doesn't it?) How did they find out? Through a Wikipedia search, browsing through teams in the State of Michigan. They must've done some extra research into the team, decided to come out, and found us there going crazy (as supporters groups usually do). Needless to say, we now have a couple of new members. I think this year is really helping with crowds and such for us because we now have a home of our own (as a primary tenant, by the way), rather than bouncing from field to field throughout Metro Detroit. Hopefully word spreads around here about this team and eventually we can pack the place (2,000 capacity). Regarding our playoff chase, we can rest a little easier having clinched the division title already, but I tell you what, that damn Thunder Bay Chill just won't go away. A conference title would be nice, considering there's a first round bye on the line (I know, the Central Conference format is strange this year). Either way, I'm hoping the Bucks want to showcase their new digs to the league and get to host playoff games like last year. You know, people think I'm crazy that I pay attention to American soccer in general. They would probably think I've lost my mind knowing I support a team at this level. But I love it, and I'll be out there to support it. And I gotta say, The Herd (that's our group name) has made things a hell of a lot more fun this year. Breaks off from the fans that put you to sleep, that's for sure. Oh, look who's rambling now. Speaking of sleep, it's past 2 already here in the Great Lakes (I refuse to say East Coast, even though it's the same time), so I'm out for the night. It's been real nice talkin to ya. Hope to see you in the playoffs, and if you do come out here for a match, first pint is on me. --Otav347 (talk) 06:21, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jamie Watson problem

edit

Hmm. This is quite a puzzling one. An anonymous user, who hasn't made any other edits than to remove the fact that Jamie Watson plays for the Austin Aztex. Even the Austin Chronicle said that he is the same Jamie Watson (as if there is another one) who played for RSL in a blog earlier this season. [1] In all honesty, I'm not the right person to be asking about this, because I have no more ability to do anything about it than you do. I'm stumped. Sorry, but I got nothing. --Otav347 (talk) 04:44, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is absolutely amazing to me. I'll see if I can't get some admin help for this because it's just baffling that this person is so dedicated to removing the Austin Aztex from Jamie Watson's playing career. On a side note, I'm guessing the Aztex signed him up now so they can have him on their USL-1 team next year, because let's be honest, there aren't too many former MLS players that go to the PDL (outside of Eric Wynalda, who signed with the Bakersfield Brigade for the season). --Otav347 (talk) 01:43, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The use of vulgarity in removing the {{unref}} tag was not necessary. All you had to do was add the references and then remove the tag. All articles must contain verifiable sources as references, see Wikipedia:Citing sources. The tag is there to help improve the article; there is no reason to remove it until the refs are added. Would you please either add the refs or restore the {{unref}} tag. Thanks. Truthanado (talk) 00:15, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Former players / current players

edit

I've read that discussion you linked to about limiting the list to former players, and see no discussion about that issue -- a lot about POV, and opinion, and OR, but not that. Is this consensus somewhere else, perhaps? I don't see why a significant current player shouldn't be on the list if they are plainly notable (it's not repetitive, because it supplies additional information about them not provided by a mere roster listing) and would like to see the discussion! I may be too late to the game but I figure if it's a consensus I will learn something about the thinking. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 11:21, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

It took a bit of digging but I found it. Had to sort of back into it via Special:Contributions, though. Odd. In any event - that's seems like a pretty weak consensus. As for me, I think a player can be both worth singling out for particular mention in a separate list, and be on the current roster. Why not? It's not redundant, because not everyone on the current roster makes the list. Some players are obviously more valuable than others, and excluding them just because they happen still to be playing for the team is arbitrary. I mean - does it really make sense that Jaime Moreno should on the NY notable list and not DC's? And if he's traded back to NY, he comes *off*? It's no more, or less, POV than a list confined to former players. I don't feel *that* strongly about this, but given the kind of tepid enthusiasm for the change, in a place that most soccer page editors never see, I'm not sure it compels changing lists whenever you come across them. JohnInDC (talk) 12:20, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for restoring that "rationale" paragraph on the DC United page. We may not see quite eye to eye on whether the list should be confined to 'former' players, but I agree that it's essential to supply *some* kind of criteria for inclusion. Facundo Erpen indeed. It had escaped my notice that someone had removed it. (I see BTW that the 'former' qualification was restored by someone along the way; I may be fighting a losing battle there!) USL Notables

For now I was just cleaning up the red links. As a rule of thumb for me, if they're red then they're probably no good since no one has bothered to make a page. Obviously I know that "rule" is ridiculous and that Julian Valentin and a few others deserve articles. Making them should be on our list of things to do, so don't think I'm just going through with a machete cutting every red link in sight. Mostly I was just going through the PDL articles to find players who have pages already who shouldn't. I know a lot of the "Notable Alumni" I have cut out are some of the same ones I have AfD'd or helped in ... so look for a bunch of prod's coming up soon from my dredging today. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

edit

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Speedy deletion of North York Astros

edit

A tag has been placed on North York Astros requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. New Orleans Shockers

edit

Perhaps you should take cues from MLS then, as they have standardized formats. They've done things with their headings that make more sense and are easier to follow, such as including notable former players under a general players heading. They also have a standardized format already in place for listing stadia so that it is more understandable. Listing the cities of each is unnecessary, and the dates should be in parentheses like in the MLS articles (and every other similar list on Wikipedia) - this further adds to accessibility, simplicity, and logic. In addition, the dates are backwards in the average attendance and would be better organized as a table that would be more easy to follow. I understand the purpose of leaving red links, but according to guidelines, the articles should be created soon. Also link need only appear once in an article, and subsequent links are redundant. Finally, leaving headings for blank sections is illogical and would be deleted in more often-edited articles. If this is truly standardized, once the information is available, the section will be reintroduced according to what similar articles already have.

I understand you're working on these to have a standardized format, but it would be most beneficial to use the best means of organization to standardize instead of whichever came first. After all, the whole purpose of Wikipedia is to combine the efforts of the community in order to determine and develop the most effective modes of organization. It is in Wikipedia's nature that a new ways are introduced in one article, not all similar articles, at which point they can be used as a new standard and introduced to the other articles in the group. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobster687 (talkcontribs) 20:22, 13 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I can see what you mean about the cities with the stadiums. I think it would be best to put a semicolon after the stadium and before the city for better separation, so I'm doing that with the rest of them. --Bobster687 (talk) 23:08, 13 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh God, this thing is never-ending lol. I'll try to do some of the defunct ones. And I'm a fan, but I've only been to a couple of games. Just wondering about football league infoboxes...

edit

Jon,
Sorry to cause the trouble on the USL infoboxes. The reason I replaced the infoboxes with Template:Infobox football league is that I the old infoboxes weren't templates, so their coding is complicated and messy (comparatively with the templates). From my experience, it is much easier to update the template-style infoboxes than it is the non-template ones because of the greater simplicity and clarity of their (on-page) coding. I have noticed that the non-template infoboxes in question are quite popular, and if the style is what you like, I would be more than willing to work on coding a template for it. I know that right now Template:Infobox football league is the only league template in use, but possibly the other design can be used for leagues at Level 2 and below in the pyramid system...just a thought. I also noticed that you're a member of WP:FOOTBALL, so if you know their procedures as relates to this issue, please fill me in. I'm just trying to help, and I would more than welcome your guidance on this issue. Thanks for your time and see you around!

Hello. I noticed your post on the WP:FOOTY Talk page and have added this article to my watchlist. I'm not an admin, but will help revert the vandalism and issue vandal warnings to the perpetrators. I've experienced similar things with the Liverpool FC (Montevideo) article and suggest the best we can do is issue the vandal warnings and hope that after enough blocks this guy will finally give in. It took a few weeks in the other situation, hopefully this will end sooner. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 01:02, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

3RR warning

edit

You seem to have violated/nearly violated WP:3RR and WP:EW on Seattle Sounders FC. I'm counting 4 edits changing the flag associated with Steve Zakuani within about 6 hours. Since your last revert was almost 18 hours ago, I won't report you, but please be more attentive to your reverts in the future and try to use the discussion page when you get into an edit war with other editors. Even if the m:Wrong version is maintained for a period of time there is no real harm in keeping it there while the discussion is on going. If you continue to edit war on the page you will be reported and possibly blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thanks! --Bobblehead (rants) 18:09, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why? Because it is very inappropriate, if you're not a notable enough subject to have your own article, you shouldn't be linked to, its as simple as that. Not to mention the fact that you should not be going anywhere near that article since you obviously have a conflict of interests. Please revert yourself--Jac16888Talk 02:08, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Its inappropriate because you are effectively promoting yourself but bypassing the notability guidelines that govern who can and cannot have an article. But fair enough, if you feel you can remain NPOV, which a quick glance suggests you are, then I guess you can continue editing the article--Jac16888Talk 03:11, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

NOVA FC

edit

Jon,

I have made the following corrections to the Northern Virginia Royals page

1) Silv left after the Freds (h) game in 2007, and not at the end of that season. I know that as both my wife and I were wondering who the new coach was when we travelled to W Va. to watch them on the SUnday of memorial day weekend.

2) Dave Atkinson is a forward, not a defender.

3) We were never in the 4th division, but the PDL. I think 4th division would be confusing for local people who do not understand the tier system over here. And Professional Development League is the better, and more apt title for the level these players play at.

I have not altered this one but....

I find AJ Sheta scored 5 goals last season, not 4. Although the offical site only credits him with 4 too.

For the record I find he scored in the following games.

1) Va Legacy (a) 4th June 2) NY Rangers (a) 29th June 3) Fred. Gunners (h) 2nd July 4) Va. Legacy (h) 13th July 5) Richmond KF (h) 18th July

Also, I must take issue with your comment "Despite this, things didn't get any better for the Royals in 2008: just three wins, just 20 goals scored, and fifth in the Mid Atlantic Division, out of the playoffs for the third consecutive season at this level."

As someone who has missed 1 game home or away in their PDL career, I found that their was a new sense of respect for the team from rival fans, with them being harder to defeat last season than in the previous ones.

Might I suggest you include links to the USL discussions website on your D1, D2, PDL etc pages ?

There are many of us there beavering away to keep the flag flying for our clubs.

PDL club layout.

edit

Hi, regarding the change I made to Long Island Rough Riders, have you seen the manual of style for football clubs? That follows a 'History' section first layout. If you have a look at the football club articles that have made featured article, such as Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa, they also follow this format. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/O'Brian White

edit

How is this any different than Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sam Cronin? It is different, as he won all awards, that Sam Cronin was runner up for - and has had more media coverage over a longer period of time. I have to wonder if this is a case of Wikipedia:Do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point, given that in the your own words I'm not sure if anyone remembers, but I asked for a "period of leniency" between the MLS Draft and one month after the start of the MLS season. Nfitz (talk) 02:36, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • I am making a point, but not the one you think I'm making. As you rightly said, I asked for leniency with regard to new draftees several weeks before the 2009 draft took place, and was shouted down by the majority of footy editors, citing the policies at WP:ATHLETE and WP:FOOTYN. So, I've simply been enforcing the standards they wanted - that any player, irrespective of anything they have done as an amateur, is inherently non-notable until they actually play a professional game somewhere. Now, for the USA, there is clearly a grey area with regard to people like Cronin and White, in that college sports are much more of a "big deal" than they are anywhere else in the world, and it is my opinion that new draftees - and ONLY new draftees - should have a notability clause in WP:FOOTYN so that we don't have situations exactly like the one we're in now. The reason it has to have college soccer specificity is because we have to ensure that people who want to write articles about seventh-tier non league players in England can't use cases like this as precedent for amateurs. I got absolutely no response before, so I'm just upholding the policy decision, with the additional hope that it stirs up discussions like these. So, the bottom line, is that I actually *AGREE* with you in overall policy, but am adhering to the current notability guidelines until we can change them. --JonBroxton (talk) 04:32, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • That was the point I thought you were making! I wasn't aware of the earlier discussion. But the players in question, are notable, and meet the General notability guideline of WP:N without meeting WP:ATHLETE (though in case of a Hermann Trophy winner or runner-up, I'd argue they do meet WP:ATHLETE because they are People who have competed at the highest amateur level of a sport ... but that isn't he argument here). There seems to be a belief of many in WP:FOOTY that WP:ATHLETE is more important WP:N but it's just not true ... WP:N is pretty clear on that. Any "policy decision" seems misinformed ... and enforcing it doesn't seem to do any good for anyone. I'm not actually sure that any draftee is notable - I've voted against 2 third-round draft picks now ... as neither seems ready to play in a professional match. Nfitz (talk) 05:34, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
      • I agree that leniency on this selection of MLS articles would probably be a helpful solution. I'm of the opinion that rapid AFDs of somewhat-notable topics which are well written and encyclopaedic in tone can be a waste of everyone's time. However, the way i which you've gone about this is particularly disappointing Jon. You should try to refine your argument and scope for an additional criterion about a period of leniency. Nominating articles which even you are aware are notable isn't much of a solution. Perhaps try to convince people that award winning US amateur athletes may be notable enough without the need for a professional appearance. AFD discussions seem far too based on guidelines; each article should be judged on its own merits. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 01:23, 12 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I fear that posting that would really only escalate things, including here at Wikipedia. People have been somewhat better behaved than last time - it's a learning process. I'd rather everyone just kept a low profile. But there should be no reason you couldn't join the board - it's quite open; but I don't think it would help. • It happens occasionally - I couldn't join MaXxed Football Forums - even though it uses the same software as other boards I am on - I just never got the e-mails. Finally I had to use a different e-mail account ... but I've never had that problem on another board. Perhaps for the best though ... Nfitz (talk) 04:30, 12 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

MLS all-time rosters

edit

Great work on these so far — I was hoping we'd have pages like this eventually. I went ahead and did one for RBNY/Metro — hope I wasn't stepping on feet there. Couple questions:

  • How far are you interested in eventually taking these? It's possible we could someday set them up in a table format, with appearance numbers and so on.
  • Are we only counting league appearances, or are we counting appearances in all competitions? We should probably specify which we're talking about in the intro sentence. As in, say, "league appearance" instead of "first team appearance". For the Metro roster, I made a separate "miscellaneous" section for the three players who have participated in competitive matches but never in a league game.
  • How are we treating players who were only ever on loan, but participated in league matches? What about guys who were on loans of non-fixed length (call-ups from the lower divisions in the 90s, for instance), but participated in league matches? They all count, or what? I have included a number of such players on the Metro roster, as there are something like a dozen who played in matches for us with such a status.

Anyway, awesome work. Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 05:10, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

when doing articles in mainspace...

edit

... That are under construction, try to use the {{underconstruction}} tag, if not the page might get speedy deleted, even without a tag. Also useful are WP:STUBS stubs templates, and appropriate wikiproject tags in the talk page. These alert editors that the page is a serious effort. I am doing this at the Claremont Stars article as an example, but please do so yourself in the future. As an alternative, you can also create the article in your user space, and then move it with the mainspace name. To do this, simply add a forward slah "/" to your user page name, like this User:JonBroxton/Article Name Here. You can do this any number of times. Donovan Ricketts appearances

edit

Please provide evidence he made only one appearance for Village United. The appearance data combined with the "correct as of date" at the bottom of the infobox suggests he made one appearance for Village United and no more. There is no evidence in the sources to state he didn't play more games. Peanut4 (talk) 22:20, 20 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

More on the rosters

edit

Excellent. I might do all-time rosters for the two defunct Florida teams next. Let me also recommend this excellent source for MLS stats: all-time lineup database. It's a downloadable database containing lineups for every competitive match ever played by every MLS team. Perfect for the hard-to-research small-timers. Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 10:55, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for fixing up the table - there's still something that has it bugging out on the Houston page — which I just edited a bunch to finalize it through '08 — but I have no idea what it is, since I don't know anything about templates (I just rip them off from existing models, haha). Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 08:11, 24 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Good idea. I was thinking of just lifting the code from some completely different navbox on some other page, but I like that solution better. I'm sure there's a template coder who keeps an eye on WP:F and would be able to fix it up for us pretty quickly. Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 00:40, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
On second thought, I gave it one last shot and just stripped the noinclude tags, whose function I don't really understand, and so far that seems to have it working. No real idea what's up, though. Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 00:44, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jon,

Improvements to minor league soccer pages should mirror MLS or EPL pages, not continue with the very bush league-sounding, irrelevant info that USL, NPSL, WPSL pages do now. Listing all of a team's opponents takes up room in the article w/o saying anything. If anyone wants to know a team's opponents, then they can look up the division or league link; that's why those pages and links exist.JaMikePA (talk) 07:02, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

New Orleans Jesters

edit

The New Orleans Shell Shockers, through their association with a local businessman, offered City Park to raise one million dollars to renovate the stadium over a number of years in return for the rights to run the stadium. City Park GM Bob Becker refused the offer. The New England Revolution and Mr Sanchez had nothing to do with it.

Watch it

edit

Jon,

You need to watch your etiquette on Wikipedia. I never did antagonize you in the way that you're doing so to me. Using all caps means you're screaming, and adults don't behave that way, whether in real life or on a message board. Stop using all caps and antagonizing other users b/c you can't get your way. This immaturity can get you suspended from using Wikipedia. The policy is "don't contribute if you don't want the info to be edited mercilessly."

Bush league: A professional sports association at the lower levels of minor league organization. (figuratively, by extension) A low-ranking or inferior level among groups, professions, organizations, etc. What I meant is that just b/c a team is minor league doesn't mean it should have an inferior page. If you don't know what something means, then look it up. Making a judgment on info that you don't know anything about is ignorant.

Also, I have every intention of recreating every soccer page to match MLS-type content, which the articles in question were very far from it. Your standardizing was a good effort, but there was a plethora of grammatical errors and irrelevant content. You should be glad that someone else is taking their time to fix the mistakes. However, you choose to show a complete lack of maturity and professionalism b/c it isn't your idea.

Appreciation

edit

I appreciate your efforts on the pages, and your apology. If I offended you, I never meant to. Yes, the improper grammar that I was referring to was the lack of "the" before plural names and the use of "is", also with plural names. I didn't know that you're English, so I incorrectly assumed that all of those mistakes were under the guise of "euro-posing." Euro-posing means an American soccer fan who adopts the terminology and customs of European soccer fans in a patronizing way while thumbing their noses at other U.S. fans who wish to maintain an American feel to our domestic teams.

The format you're talking about isn't mine, but the common one used on MLS pages. So I can't take credit for anything. Also, I never thought badly of you, but I was frustrated that you didn't seem to meet me half-way.

About the inclusion of cities with the stadiums, my idea of omission is just for readability and not for content. Think about when you read an article, if you see a jumble of words together with every other word hyperlinked, do you lose interest in reading it? I do. I am not saying what I think goes, but my eyes literally have to focus too intensely to read articles like that.
