Your email edit

Thanks for the email, bit odd - I didn't know you could email off of wiki. Regarding the Hour Record article, it isn't elitist, you can clearly see this is about the world hour record. US-state-level hour records may at a stretch be notable and if so an separate article can be made listing those, like Hour record (recumbents). However, I would note that (to my knowledge) there isn't a US National Hour record page (or progression of that record article), which may demonstrate a lack of notability for a state level article, but may also be a starting point for a state-level article. To me, the beauty of Wikipedia is that it held ALL the information, not just the big, notable stuff that is easily found in any Google search (or whatever your search engine of choice).
I have been away from Wiki for 10+ years as an editor and I am not totally familiar with all the new guidelines. I'm not even sure how to add a new article, and the Wizard frankly has me a little scared. Here is the story behind the story: We of the FlaVelo group are trying to generate interest in track cycling in Florida, which holds one of the largest concentration of cycling population around the globe. We feel that a "state one hour record" may encourage that. I went out and deliberately set an easily attainable goal, to set the bar low, in order to encourage more participation. It seems a Wiki Florida One Hour Record article, or paragraph of a larger article would be a logical place to start. This may or may not be a good use of Wikipedia?
I wish to avoid controversy and being deleted/edited/etc. How would you suggest we proceed? Johnwilltenney (talk) 21:22, 10 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Johnwilltenney - that's such a good idea and I can see how a state record could encourage more people to get involved. But, firstly, you'd need to assess whether a potential article would meet WP:GNG and WP:NCYC. The GNG (General Notability Guide) sets out what is deemed notable enough to have an article about it. If you think a state-level article meets the GNG then go for it a create a new article - if not, I would either write it us as a draft-article and ask someone to review it (if successful then the draft will become a fully fledged article, if not it will be declined). Or go to WT:CYC and ask for comments from other members of the Cycling project XyZAn (talk) 13:31, 12 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
