Speedy deletion nomination of Tamir E. Rice

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice that the page you created was tagged as a test page under section G2 of the criteria for speedy deletion and has been or soon may be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Tamir E. Rice

edit

Hello Johngimi, and again welcome to Wikipedia. I'm Wikipedia User:Anupmehra, and I recently noticed that you created an article Tamir E. Rice directly in the mainspace without adding any contents that would describe Tamir Rice. It apparently appeared to me a test page, has therefore been nominated for speedy deletion for the same reason. If you want to create an article on XYZ, I recommend you first making it in a userspace sandbox such as User:Johngimi/XYZ for an article about XYZ. You may make as many you want to. When you believe you're done, simply move it to the mainspace. However, please note that moving a page requires additional privilege, that the user account must be four days old with 10 local edits. I hope, you find this helpful. If you have questions about this or something else you want an answer for, please ask it below to this post. Happy editing! Hi Anupmehra,
Thank you for reaching out to me and letting me know that you had a concern.
This is a breaking news story that has far-reaching implications given the ongoing injustice of unarmed African American men being shot by police in the United States.
My hope was to post the beginnings of an article and that others would add to it.
Is your preference that I do this in the sandbox? My concern is that all I can do is write a little bit this evening, and others won't find it (and build on it) if it is in the sandbox.
Thank you for your kind guidance.
johngimi
Hi again Johngimi, I noticed a moment later I left you a message here that the article has completely been changed and is no longer a test page. However, it does not appear to me a suitable inclusion on Wikipedia as people notable for only one event are not generally not considered eligible for inclusion. We have also a guideline against 'reporting news' and being a news channel, at WP:Wikipedia is not a newspaper. It is a matter a debate whether this particular subject, qualifies for inclusion or not and therefore one has been called for here. Please feel free to comment there, but before participation into there, I would advise you to take a look at few related guidelines that would help you making a valid point in the discussion like Wikipedia notability guideline, What Wikipedia is not and Other stuffs exist.
The Userspace sandbox thing comes handy when you are not ready to create an article directly in the mainspace or want to create it in days. A userspace sandbox may be helpful in number of ways as it will help prevent misunderstandings between you and Wikipedia new pages patrollers to not unnecessary tag an article for deletion that is under-construction. Thanks for Tamir Rice!

edit

Sorry for the initial confusion, but it looks like the page is being allowed to stay (at Shooting of Tamir Rice), and I wanted to thank you for getting a little bit of accurate information up quickly. The article is rapidly changing and improving, as articles often do, but you deserve credit for making its info WP:Verifiable, well-cited, and true from the start.

Thanks for your contributions! FourViolas (talk) 12:05, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
