June 2022 edit

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. 331dot (talk) 10:25, 11 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I'm not sure what happened here. I was trying to improve the Mount Edziza wiki page and I uploaded a new description box image. The image was watermarked. Is that the reason? I do not receive any compensation for these edits. I created and own any images I upload. I can use unwatermarked images in the future. As I own these images and I understand that the licensing page protects them. thanks. John Scurlock Jagged Ridge Imaging (talk) 10:46, 11 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason:

I have renamed your account. I will remove the block; you should use images without watermarks; as long as they are your personal images unrelated to what I assume is your photography business and you release them under the proper license(allowing reuse by anyone for any reason, including commercial) you should be fine. 331dot (talk) 11:11, 11 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

You will need to propose a new username as instructed- usernames cannot be that of a business. 331dot (talk) 10:48, 11 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia has articles, not "wiki pages". 331dot (talk) 10:49, 11 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I want to replace my old username with my actual name, to remove the previously mentioned conflict. thanks, John Scurlock Jagged Ridge Imaging (talk) 10:51, 11 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for removing the block. I will make sure and remove watermarks from my images. And thank you also for changing my username. I'm afraid I was ignorant about the possibility of a conflict caused by my old username. I will undertake removal of my two watermarked images from wiki commons.
