your tag

you should probably put a little tag on User:Hexagon1/Imagfriend saying that using it is a bad idea, since according to consensus it makes you inappropriate admin material. Ironholds 21:01, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the vote. As CultureDrone so eloquently said, it seems to be a case of people worrying that people might be offended in the future rather than looking at what i've done in the past. What i really don't understand is the the MfD for said userbox clarified (with massive consensus) that it is an acceptable part of the page and yet they still opposed. Ironholds 04:08, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
You dont have to apologise, i'd probably be loosing it anyway. What I love is promtheus opposing it on the grounds that he finds it offensive as an anglican, which should by this logic send people scrambling at his RfA going "ooh, he has personal OPINIONS! help, police!". Not having this userbox would not change what I think in any way, simply mean that they aren't displayed. I displayed it because I found it humourous (props to you, btw) not because I was religion-bashing. I dont know where WP:AGF got lost along the way with these people. Thanks :). I've been thinking of maybe closing the RfA; I need 66% upwards support, and i've got it the other way around, but i think i'll now leave it just to prove a point and turn the whole "you'd be a bad admin because you have an opinion" thing into a talking point. "If there is one person who has irreparably damaged their reputation here, it is you. By not removing the userbox when things got heated Ironholds has proven himself as an reliable and honest user, and together with his editing record he would make a brilliant administrator.". Thanks dude :). At this point removing it would change nothing, and i'm not going to kowtow to pressure. Removing it wouldn't change how i personally fail and i'd rather wear my heart on my sleeve, especially on the internet, a realm where people can hide or restrict anything they want. Will do. This hasn't stopped me wanting to become an admin, merely made me more determined so i can oppose the "gahh, its politically incorrect! burn it! burn the heresy!" viewpoint with a little more weight. Ironholds 11:36, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Image:First Czechoslovak Republic.SVG - fixed?

fixed?

Hey, firstly I just want to thank you. I had a feeling I had made mistakes, but no one seemed to notice anything. I don't actually have a good map of interwar europe to work with. Second, I made some improvements, please let me know if they're right before I fix the second one. I know there are a couple changes on the slovak-polish border as well, but I don't have a good map of them, so I can't include them. - TheMightyQuill (talk) 14:25, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Woops, thank you for the reminder. I fixed it nearly two weeks ago, but forgot to upload it. I also didn't respond to you about the scan (promiňte). I guess I got distracted by other things. It does seem enormous to try to send through email. Do you have a flickr site or somewhere else you could post it online? Unfortunately, I don't think I can legally trace it, so it would just be for my personal interest. It's a really fascinating item though. Where did you get it? - TheMightyQuill (talk) 13:44, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Fantastic! Let me know when it's ready. Thanks. - TheMightyQuill (talk) 14:14, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Perfect. Thanks a bunch. If it's past midnight there, you must be 14 hours ahead of me... wow.. that puts you in Russia? China? South East Asia? or maybe Perth? Anyway, thanks again and good night. - TheMightyQuill (talk) 14:57, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Czech passport

I'll leave out the Canadian immigration source for now as it seems to be equally sourced on the Czech MFA site. But I do want to mention that the only authoritive source for entry requirements is the MFA (or as a secondary source an embassy) of the country being travelled to, i.e. in this case Canada. They are the ones that make the rules regarding immigration requirements. All encompassing travel advice lists drawn up by various sourecd (including home side MFAs) are often out of date. Userbox

I love the atheism userbox, I'm using it. The DominatorTalkEdits 03:53, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm, I've seen the MfD (that's how I came by the box in the first place) but I didn't see the RfA. I guess I can see how people could be offended by it, but blah. I love the userbox, but I'm changing it to a less controversial one. You know, don't want to piss off anybody too much. The map is great by the way! The DominatorTalkEdits 07:27, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

The imperial system

As I understand it the imperial system refers to that system of units initially defined by the 1824 Weights and Measures Act of the UK parliment, adopted throughout the British Empire, refined by subsequent acts of the UK parliment and of the parliments of former colonies, and now declining in use as it's replaced by the metric system.

This system, as far as I'm aware, never was adopted in the US since by 1824 the US was independant. Certainly the US customary system has a lot in common with the imperial system—the only significant difference being units of volume—but it's not the same thing.

This commonality is due to the fact that both systems were based on earlier English units. So the US customary system could be called a local varient of English units but not of the imperial system. The imperial system would be another varient—not quite "local", though, since it was used throughout the UK & the British Empire/Commonwealth.
