I don't get why adding flag icons in front of referees' names is considered not constructive given that it is common practice for articles on FIBA tournaments to include the 3 letter code of the country each referee is from and the South America 2022 FIBA u-18 women's americas championship article had same the flag icon format as I did. JohnMannon (talk) 22:35, 15 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
I meant flag decorations not flag icons. JohnMannon (talk) 22:36, 15 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Per WP:FLAG, flags used for a purely decorative reason are not allowed. In this case flags are not necessary. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 04:08, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
It's not decorative though. The FIBA overview pages on the boxscores have the referees' nationality listed along with their names and it has been common practice to list the 3 letter code of the referee's home countries along with their names. JohnMannon (talk) 14:28, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Adding the flags is decorative. Adding in the three digit NOC code is not. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 14:42, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
ok can we add the noc codes back again JohnMannon (talk) 14:45, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes that is perfectly fine. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 15:04, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
What's the difference? Both communicate the same information and it'll be easier to understand as more people know the flags than the 3 letter codes. JohnMannon (talk) 15:22, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
