Speedy deletion of Myspace credited images

edit

A tag has been placed on the following images: Image:FishGoDeepandTraceyK.jpg; Image:NUIG October 08.jpg;Image:Shanghai, Nov 2007.jpg and Image:Fishgodeep.jpeg requesting that they be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the images are all credited to "MySpace.com" with either no author information or an "unknown" author tag making the images appear to be blatant copyright infringements. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the images that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the images talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Image permission problem with Image:NUIG October 08.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:NUIG October 08.jpg and Image:FishGoDeepandTraceyK.jpg. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

Please ask the person who created these images to take one of the two steps listed here:

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:32, 14 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just a few more pointers on images

edit

Hi. While preparing the above for resolution, I also noticed a couple of points of concern with Image:Album Cover to Lil' Hand.jpg, which I wanted to address with you. The first problem is that the image is too big. :) As Wikipedia:Album#Cover notes, "The width of the image should ideally be no less than 200px (the default display size of the infobox), but it should be no more than 300px on at least one side (to satisfy fair use criteria)." I've tagged this one for resizing. If you resize it, please replace the tag that says {{Non-free reduce}} with {{Non-free reduced|~~~~~}} (brackets and all). This will let an admin know that a size that meets non-free content criteria has been uploaded, so the one that is too large can be removed.

The other problem I noticed, though, is that you had included the image in the article on the band in its discography. Unfortunately, we can't do that. Wikipedia:NFC#Images 2 lists as unacceptable uses for images, "An album cover as part of a discography, as per the above." I've removed it from that article.

While that one can't be used in that way, I thought I'd also point out while I'm here that whenever you use a "fair use" image in an article, you have to write a specific fair use rationale for that article. You can see more about that at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline.

Learning the ins and outs of image use on Wikipedia can be pretty tricky. I'm very familiar with text, but still by no means deeply familiar with all aspects of image use. Fortunately, we do have a board where you can ask questions about a particular image and how its use fits in with our copyright and non-free content policy: WP:MCQ. I've made use of them more than once.

I'll be watching your page for a couple of days in case you'd like to discuss this further. If you don't come back within a week or so and would like to talk to me about this, please leave me a note at my page.

Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:54, 14 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Album Cover to Lil' Hand.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Album Cover to Lil' Hand.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:16, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
