Émile Gallé

edit

Hi,

you added a cleanup tag to Émile Gallé: What in your opinion is non conformant? I would like to know if you are referring to the biographical edits I added in the last paragraph. They in fact do not refer directly to his artistic achievements, but if anything is known about an Artists' views on contemporary social affairs I think that they are an essential part of his/her biography. In this case the artist took active part in these affairs, with the Dreyfuss affair being an important part of French social history--Joelemaltais 28 June 2005 06:37 (UTC)

Hi Joelemaltais! At the time I added the cleanup tag, there were several typos which are now corrected. I'll remove the tag. The non-art info is interesting (thanks for adding it!), and belongs in the article, IMO. --sparkit (talk) June 28, 2005 14:04 (UTC)

Thanks for coming by! Well, as for your question we have WP:UE and WP:COMMONNAME which say we should use whatever the most common name in English-language texts is. We also have WP:ENGVAR which says we should respect the spellings of national varieties of English, which will include Maltese English. Would you say the most common standard spellings in Maltese English wiritng are the same as the Maltese-language spellings, by and large? What about official English-language use on the island, e.g. in education and government? They are in my experience, but I guess you will have more experience in this matter.

Unfortunately there's a large clean-up to be done - Special:Contributions/78.146.213.236, Special:Contributions/78.133.74.103 and Special:Contributions/Kyarichy have changed hundreds of articles - some spellings have been labelled as the English spelling when it is only a rare alternative, some have been labelled as Maltese only when they are used in English, and some Italian ones have been labelled as Maltese... it's going to take a bit of expertise to sort this all out.

Many, many thanks for coming by! I hope this all gets sorted soon. Knepflerle (talk) 17:30, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
